Amazing old school, true to the roots diner. Originally built in the 50's, this is the definition of a diner. Great prices and food. I had the fried pork chops with mashed potatoes and gravy and left satisfied. I will eat there every time I pass by! Family friendly, but as real diner, there is not a ton of room. I have eaten here on several occasions. Dont get the green beans. They are awful imho. The burgers are nothing special but the seafood is incredible. Puppy ribs or fish with potatoe salad and fried apples is my new go to from this Diner. You may love the burgers and green beans. read more

My favorite fugitive on the planet and I stopped in here for some breakfast yesterday morning on our way back to Jersey from the long arm of the Virginia law. It came highly recommended by a woman at the courthouse in Eastville, VA. The Exmore Diner obviously has it's regulars, and stays busy with hungry customers. It's a small diner with 5 or 6 booths for seating, along with a line of bar stools along the counter, where my friend and I were happy to take a seat. The staff here has that southern hospitality mixed with friendly terms of endearment one comes to expect below the Mason-Dixon Line. Refreshing to say the least. I had the sausage gravy and biscuits, sausage link, and home fries, along with an egg sandwich with sausage and sharp cheddar (I actually ordered the sandwich with corned-beef, but I didn't want to make a fuss when it showed up with sausage.) My friend had the All American breakfast: 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, corned beef hash & home fries. We were both hoping for grits in place of the home fries, but they were out. I chalk it up to being pretty late in the morning, as we arrived just before they changed over to their lunch menu. It was good and filling diner grub. I thought the sausage was especially tasty, not your average sausage by far. I did find myself overwhelmed by breakfast meats though. I should have had something sweet in the mix, thus I stole a few good bites of pancake from the plate of my partner in crime. We were briefly worried this down-home small diner might not accept credit cards, but were delighted to find they are up with the times and actually do! Makes me feel some places in NYC that don't could obviously step into the present if this place can do it. We left stuffed, and couldn't even finish our plates. For a mere $20. I mean stuffed to the point we were content with not eating anything for the rest of the day, aside from a few handfuls of meltedly chocolate trail mix. (92 degrees + no A/C on a 6-hour drive does not fair well for bits of chocolate amongst a bag of nuts.) read more

We had lunch there. First, it's a diner! Very neat to eat in one of those buildings. Friendly waitress. I had drum ribs (drum is a fish; in this case apparently a large one; it tastes like fish but I liked it as is and with the tartar sauce). These "ribs" are long bones with a reasonable amount of meat around them, breaded and fried. Grab an end of the bone and pull it out (it's smooth) and dip the meat in tartar sauce; it's very good. I also had collards and mashed potatoes. Excellent meal, though certainly not fancy. My wife had butterfly shrimp, slaw and french fries. I can testify the shrimp tasted quite good and am told the slaw was also. Good food, good price, neat place to eat, friendly service; I'd go back in a minute. read more

Food was very good across the board and we felt it was a bargain. 4 items: chicken salad club, turkey sub, fresh clam strip dinner, salad with chicken. Throw in two milkshakes and another drink or two was like 40 bucks. Shining stars were the clams (arguably the best fried clams I've had. Barely battered. Not greasy. Loved it). Chicken club highly rated too. It had to be homemade). Exmore is a really small town if you stray off of the 13 bypass in this area and go the business route. It's a pretty downtown, but not many businesses. Kind of sad. This diner isn't in the downtown area, but it was all locals and us. This diner drove me to create a yelp account. I do not recommend eating here. The outside of the diner looks pretty run down. That's fine, I was thinking "maybe it is awesome inside," this is not the case. Upon opening the door, we were greeted with a musty, old smell. We decided to charge on and give this place a shot. After ordering our drinks, we began to take in the atmosphere. There were an uncomfortable amount of flys flying around the restaurant, including a fly strip that had hundreds of dead flies on it. We should have left. The food was not good, I don't understand how this place has so many good reviews. read more

This Summer, I made my first trip to Exmore Diner, during a road trip, through the Eastern Shore. We decided to make the stop, based on the diner being one of the few rated businesses on the Shore. First, the service. I must admit that the customer service was great, with attentive staff and positive interaction with customers. As far as food quality, the food is standard "old school" fare, by my standards. We enjoyed eggs, cakes, ham, bacon, toast, ect...standard breakfast fare. Yes, they offer all the foods old people grew up with, but, their key to good taste consists of butter and salt...which really isn't special. When it comes to building, parking, ect... Many write with love, about stepping back in time... Unfortunately stepping back in time isn't the best thing for many of us...and I've seen MANY older diners in far better shape. The prices were great, and I was impressed. In sum, there aren't many choices locally, so the Exmore Diner will remain a staple... I may return if in the area...but, I won't plan to visit. I had a crab cake and fried oyster special that came with a choice of 2 sides from a list of 10. Everything was delicious (best crab cake I've had in years) and after tax it was $15. Rt13 heading to the chesapeake bridge tunnel is served exclusively by Royal farms gas stations and other fast food restaurants. This is not a diner wanna be, but a true step back in time.... they have been open for over 50 years for a reason. The food is great, as well as the fountain treats. , Fries, burgers and dogs might be what you would expect, but they have so much more! We got great sandwiches... crab cake and a poboy fried oyster sandwich. The milkshakes were yummy, and the birch beer was an amazing surprise. Did I mention the sweet potato fries? This place is a REAL diner. Not some burger place dressed up like a diner for the sake of nostalgia. It's full of locals and the food is great. My parents have a house near here and they often eat here twice a day when they are in town! Exmore isn't exactly a hot spot of vacation activity so the crowd is always about 90%+ local. The food is local too, with great seafood from the bay - crab cakes, fried oysters, clam fritters, soft-shelled crab, etc. mmmmmm. The only downside (at least for us Californian types) is the lack veggies. Last time we were here, my wife asked what additional vegetables they had and the response was, "Well, we have fried apples...". But let me tell you, those fried apples are darn good! read more

Over all a great choice for us. When it comes to pricing and taste, great place to go. It is easy to find, and the food was wonderful. We ate a great meal, for under $25. The only down side would be which waitress you get. Of the 3 there tonight, I had to get the hateful one. When we first entered, there was only seating at the bar, as they were a little busy. Our waitress greeted us, but seemed to bothered, or maybe she had some where else to be. At first I thought it was just me, but we noticed how she treated the other waitresses as well. I cant believe the way she spoke down to every one else. Good thing it was not raining, she would have drown. The rest of the staff seemed polite and friendly, even enjoying being there. If you get the chance to stop and eat here, it is definitely worth your time, and affordable. I give it 1 Star, based solely on our waitress. You might call ahead and make sure "Kim" is not working. If she is, ask for the other waitress. (Name may be wrong. She never introduced herself, but her coworkers called her Kim something).
