    Clam chowder

We were taking the coastal route to Pennsylvania. It was dinner time and sometimes on the coastal route places to eat are a little limited. We came across Kendall's Country Kitchen. We figured it would be nice to get out of the car and sit down to eat versus drive thru and eat while on the road. When we walked in we just did not get that warm fuzzy feeling. Not sure why. Once we were seated we placed our beverage order. After that we placed our order for our meals. They were out of a few things which was a little disappointing. Not sure if that due to covid, or they actually sold out. They definitely do a lot of take out orders. I ordered the fried shrimp with a side of mashed potatoes and apple sauce. My meal was not too bad. The shrimp were large and crispy. My son had clam chowder and salad. No issues there. My daughter had a BLT with fries. My husband did not enjoy his meal. He had bones in his fried fish. He get that it was too many. He did not like the gizzards, and his sides were cold. It was just off being there and the food was just meh. Sadly we will not be back for a second time.

Driving back to NY after a relaxing family vacation in quaint Sandbridge Beach, VA, we were all starting to get hungry. We all agreed that we did not want to stop for fast food, which is all we kept seeing along the way. A road service sign led us to this restaurant and we couldnt be more thankful. Coming from NY, we rarely, if ever get authentic soul food, and were not going to pass up on this chance. Located in an unassuming strip mall, Kendall's Kountry Kitchen was a 40 seat adorable restaurant. When we arrived there was a large family party, but the rest of the restaurant was quite empty. After being seated right away, we saw as the restaurant slowly began to fill up. By the time we left, the enture place was full. Our waitress Jemiah (sorry if I am spelling that wrong) was so sweet and welcoming. Our orders for drinks and food were taken right after she introduced herself. We ordered 2 of the fried chicken meals and one pork chop dinner. Each came with two sides and cornbread. We all shared the sides and were able to all try the mashed potatoes, baked apples, collard greens (we got two orders-they were out of fried okra) macaroni and cheese and the corn pudding. All amazing! Our mains were all cooked to perfection, served piping hot and tasted great. The waitress explained that all meals were cooked to order and to expect about a 20 minute wait. (Just something to remember if you are in a rush). Thankfully we had plenty of time and must agree that this is a meal that should be savored and given a generous amount of time to consume. We left nothing on our plates! I also ordered a bread pudding to take home (stuffed from the meal) and enjoyed it on my way home. The food, hospitality and general vibe of this place was refreshing and not something we come across often living up north. We plan to make this an annual stop (to and from) our beach vacations.

Our family of four (my wife, two sons - 15 yrs, 13 yrs, and I) enjoyed takeout dinner here on a Sunday in late December during a winter stay in Onancock, VA. Given the limited number of dining options available between Christmas and New Year's, we were delighted to see that Kendall's Kitchen was open. It's located in a strip mall on US Route 13, near the traffic light for Route 179 (which goes to Onancock). Lots of free parking and friendly staff. The pulled pork (melted off the bone) and cornbread were highlights. The restaurant had sold out of collard greens, so we had the spinach instead. I liked the yams, but they were really sweet (almost like a dessert). The broiled trout was OK, but not as delicious as the pulled pork. My wife was hoping to order the trotters (pig's feet), but they had sold out by 5:30pm. If you're driving along Route 13 and looking for a southern-style lunch stop or early dinner, I would recommend Kendall's Kountry Kitchen. Please note they are closed on Mondays. You can also call ahead to place an order and save time.

Stopped by on my way to Va Beach. Great customer service and the food was that good cooking you get at grandmas house. I will definitely stop by again when traveling on 13.

It was great when they opened... but tonight I was served THE TOUGHEST butterfly shrimp. I truly did not think it was possible to be that tough. My husband got drum ribs, the majority of which was inedible skin. The fried okra ended up being the highlight of the meal. It will be a long time before we come back. On a good note, the staff are all very nice.

I had the clam strip dinner, it was excellent! Not to mention the great service I received from Andrea! Truly a gem of the Eastern Shore!

I took a pic of the "jumbo" scallop entree. The original Basket version is just 4 scallops and fries for $17, that was my original plan. Even though the scallops weren't local, I was encouraged to get the entree version which had 4 more scallops (so 8 total) and an Xtra side, which I chose Mac n' cheese (house made). But this entree version was $31. So for $14 more I got a scoop of Mac and 4 of these pitiful scallops. I'm sorry but that is egregious. That's highway robbery and there's NOTHING added in the entree variant that justifies that kind of price. The basket version, isn't justifiable at $17 given what's here. Not to mention that its not even plated and everything was in a to-go format. There were flies everywhere that kept crawling on me and I was just ready to leave the moment I recieved my food. Softshell crab and the rest of the food is good. But not THAT good. Two basket-type entrees ran us over $70.

It was lunchtime, and we passed the Sage Diner, which was packed, so we turned around and decided to stop in. This is not a fancy place, and it seemed like about 99% of the customers were locals. The hostess greeted us and seated us in a booth. Shortly after, a gentleman came over to take our drink order. We both ordered tea. I tried mine and didn't care for it -- it tasted like fountain tea -- so I switched to a soda. For lunch, my wife ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, which came with a cup of soup. She chose the bean soup. I ordered the prime rib sandwich, which also came with fries and a cup of soup; I chose the cream of crab. When the food arrived, it looked pretty good at first. My wife liked her soup, but the meatloaf was extremely dry and had a strange seasoning to it. The mashed potatoes were real, with large chunks of potato in them. My prime rib sandwich special was overcooked and came with cheese. I was expecting thinly sliced, shaved prime rib, but instead the meat was cut very thick -- about a quarter inch -- and was tough. The cream of crab soup was disappointing. The first thing you notice is a heavy spoonful of Old Bay on top. When I dug in, there was barely any crab -- just a few chopped particles, which didn't feel acceptable for cream of crab. I ended up eating the prime rib plain with some BBQ sauce just to get through it. Overall, we don't think we'll be returning. There were a few other places we passed farther down the road that likely would have been a better choice.

The FedEx overnight shipping for these time-sensitive, freshly steamed Maryland blue crabs is insanely expensive--but so worth every penny. The crabs arrive fat, rich, and impossibly sweet--capturing the inimitable flavor that makes Maryland blues stand out. Don't get me wrong--I love Alaskan King, Dungeness, and Snow Crabs, but only Maryland blues have my heart. The Company puts a lot of love into protecting that perfection: - Crabs are packed in styrofoam crates with bubble wrap barriers to shield them from the dry ice, so nothing arrives accidentally frozen. - Often, they include a few extra crabs, just in case one or two don't meet their own high standards. That thoughtfulness goes a long way. While these steamed beauties are mouthwatering anytime, the prime season is in September, after they've had the summer to fatten up in their shells. That's when they're absolutely bursting with flavor and texture. Having said that, I still can't resist ordering for Memorial Day to officially kick off the summer and in June to honor daughter's annual request for her birthday feast. This is more than a crab shipment--it's a tradition. From coast to coast, The Crab Place delivers a piece of Maryland's culinary soul with quality, care, and consistency. For any true crab lover, this is the gold standard.

The oysters themselves were nearly perfect, though the dish leaned a bit salty. Still, a solid start. The crab soup was good as well--also slightly on the salty side, which could just come down to personal preference. Now to the burnt ends--one of my go-to orders anywhere. I'm happy to say these didn't disappoint. Like others have mentioned, the brisket was a touch dry but still impressively tender and full of flavor. The BBQ nachos were messy in the best way and packed with flavor--definitely a hit, especially with my son. As for the slaw, we were told it would be "wet," but it's actually on the drier side, so keep that in mind depending on your preference. It's homey inside and I love the decor with various sea and fishing themed items hanging - kind'of reminds me of the way a Cracker Barrel looks. It was lobster night but we chose to go with several things so we could try a bunch from the menu since we didn't know when we'd be back again. They had tons of daily specials on a board when you entered and I chose to go with the fresh Halibut platter with a side salad. We did a half pound of steamed shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops and a side of fries as well. Hush puppies were big and crispy, a bit too greasy for me, but they were a nice few bites to take the edge off while we waited. Served with butter. The shrimp were large and fresh - we were told fresh from North Carolina and I believe it. Some of the best steamed shrimp I've had. My husband absolutely devoured them. The Hidden Flavor Bomb in a Strip Mall…read more We stumbled upon this place on our way home from North Carolina, and let me just say, do not let the strip mall location fool you. This spot is a flavor-packed gem you do not want to miss. On a random Wednesday night, the place was clean, bustling, and buzzing with satisfied diners. That is always a good sign. The menu is a glorious mashup of Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican dishes. If your taste buds had passports, they would get stamped three times just by looking at it. Our server, who was fast, friendly, and clearly knew her stuff, recommended the traditional Puerto Rican platter. Bless her. This plate was a full-on party. The roasted pork was the kind you dream about--tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The traditional rice tasted like a family recipe handed down for generations. Sweet plantains added just the right touch of comfort, and the cabbage salad brought a refreshing contrast. It had tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and a balsamic vinaigrette. If I had one suggestion, I would swap in white balsamic instead of dark. The taste was spot on, but the color made it slightly less visually appealing. Someone else in our group ordered the Cubano sandwich, which came out looking like it could feed two people easily. It was massive. They only made it halfway through. The fries were served in a little basket, hot and crispy, just the way they should be. Best of all, everything was reasonably priced. If you are in the area or passing through, do yourself a favor. Stop in, loosen your belt, and prepare to leave full, happy, and a little surprised that a place this good came out of a humble strip mall.
