Dinner on the second night of our Brugge weekend getaway found us at De Bühne…read more Small & quaint dining room with the loveliest person helping us through our evening. You'll want to make reservations here as they were fully booked for the evening & were turning people away Started with the nicest Belgian beers - I had a white & the Mr had another light version of beer that was definitely not light in flavor - these were fabulous Amuse consisted of a nice homemade cheddar biscuit - rosemary & herbs plus a nice pungent cheese - so good! Starters included: Curry Empanadas with broccoli & cheese plus, beet, & potato tempura - this tart was amazing! The flavor was complex and savory and had just a hint of spice / heat to it. Wished we had had about 8 more of these.... Mushrooms & polenta w nut crumble on top - lovely terrine of tender mushrooms & the creamy polenta layer underneath gave the dish a nice texture Main course consisted of the Celery Biscuit - almost like a tart w carrot and potato, 3 different filled (stuffed) vegetables as tomato, broccoli, eggplant Passion Fruit Tart & Pear Tart for dessert & the passion fruit was a mousse-like creamy dessert while the pear tart was like a delicious crumble. We liked them both While there, the table near us had also ordered the empanadas and the lady stated she did not care for cheese. The chef replaced the cheese w/ a bechamel for her so this was further evidence that all dishes were prepared as ordered & everything was fresh, well cooked & very much admired by us! Huge fans!!

By first class, I mean tremendous attention to detail in every aspect of both service and food. It felt like I was a guest in their home. You'll know what I mean after you visit. As mentioned in an earlier review, they have been in business 20 years. They being husband and wife. We never saw him, but my wife spotted a man in the kitchen and asked her. They make everything on the menu themselves - right down to the table bread. The food was absolutely superb and the presentation was exceptional. We had made a reservation because I learned about the place on Yelp and knew it was small. On the day we visited, it was quiet with only three tables (another cool aspect about a quiet highly differentiated evening) and the one of the couples we spoke with also heard about this place on Yelp. When we asked the owner, she said she didn't really know anything about Yelp until recently when they sent her some mail. This was a fantastic dinner and evening. I would love to come back soon!

To everyone's surprise, every dish except dessert was better on the vegan tasting menu. There was just so much more depth of flavor brought to each dish with the mushrooms that the meat and fish just couldn't hold a flame too. It's just added bonuses that it's cheaper, better for you and better for the environment.

Reviews pointed us towards Patrick Devos, which is just one street over from the more bustling shopping / tourist area. This restaurant is actually part of a larger association called Alliance Gastronomique, which includes some other places we had been to in Amsterdam. The setting is beautiful with wood paneled rooms, wood floors, high ceilings, and drapes on the windows. Apparently, it's the beautifully preserved home of a former architect, and we got to sit in the front room, which was more private with only 4 tables. For much of the meal, it was actually just the 2 of us, which felt very exclusive. At dinner, have a 4 course option for €68 and a 6 course for €95. With pairings, it's €92 and €143, respectively. They also have a 4 and 6 course vegetarian options for less. For wines, we ended up going by the glass, and the Sauvignon blanc and Gamay off the tasting were both only €8/glass, which was extremely reasonable. The gamay was a standout because it had much more Brett funk than I've ever had in a gamay, which I usually find to be lighter. Amuses: - Quail egg with a tarragon emulsion and polenta crisp - Seaweed bread and brown bread with olive oil from Spain 6 Course Tasting: 1. Marinated smoked mackerel: with a radish / chicory / carrot / turnip kimchi, pickled Napa cabbage, fermented vegetables, mousse of spring peas and avocado, parsley coulis. It had tons of beautiful colors, flavors, and textures. The oyster leaf was an interesting addition. This was a great opening dish to get your appetite going. 2. Pan seared weever fish: I didn't know what to expect with weever fish, but this dish was deep in flavors with perfectly cooked cherry tomatoes, roasted bell pepper, saffron, turmeric mashed potatoes, romesco cream, and an amazingly rich fish and saffron reduction. I definitely used bread to sop up the extra sauce. 3. Pan seared lobster with seaweed, clams, artichoke, thinly sliced carrots around fideo, finished with a lobster sauce. The charred scallion and artichoke with the lobster were such great flavors 4. Grilled white and green asparagus, zucchini filled with wild garlic leaves (dried and fresh), wild garlic coulis - super fragrant from the garlic with great grill marks on the asparagus - a wonderful spring dish that leaves a subtle hint of garlic with you after you're done 5. John Dory: pan seared, with herb sauce, cauliflower couscous, millet, and roasted beetroot, topped with a fresh snow pea leaf. I'm essentially a pescatarian, and they were able to sub the regular duck dish with the fish while maintaining the other accompaniments. I did try the vadouvan quince paste with the duck, and it was great. 6. Cream mousseline with verbena, blackberries, strawberries, poached rhubarb, chantilly, lemon and mint jelly, and vervain ice cream. This was a beautiful desserts with so many colors, flavors, and textures. Though the venue looks more traditional, plating and composition of the dishes was certainly modern. Staff was unpretentious despite the more formal setting (we came under dressed after being in Bruges all day), and the diners varied from groups to a family with a dog to a solo diner. Dinner took about 3 hours, and they were very gracious about accommodating our need to be on a schedule to catch a train back to Brussels. In the end, for 2 people, 2 glasses of wine, and water, it was €212 total, which by SF Bay Area standards is a steal for the experience. I'm actually really surprised they don't have a Michelin star. I didn't expect to find this kind of fine dining experience on our day trip to Brugge, so it was an especially wonderful end to our day trip.

The waffles were quickly made and nice and hot, but not too hot to melt the ice cream on top. The ice cream was really sweet but great on a hot day. Go get it the back and enjoy the little terrace right on the water while you eat your waffle. It's a great little bonus. Beware: if you get the cherries, they still have their pits in them!

First time in Belgium and I knew I obviously had to get a waffle! A group of us were walking around…read moreand recognized this place from TikTok and decided to try it. The menu consists of their waffle creations and a build-your-own option. We didn't notice until after we ordered that all the waffles are gluten-free, dairy-free, and plant-based. Honestly, if I had knew that before coming here I would have chosen a different waffle place. Service was good and the workers spoke some English. There isn't much space inside to eat your waffles there, but it is clean. All the waffles are prepared freshly right in front of you and served made to order. I will note these are definitely a more expensive option, each waffle is about €10 and they aren't huge. I ended up ordering the Chocolate Lady waffle which included a waffle with dark chocolate sauce, vanilla ice cream, cocoa nibs, and roasted buckwheat. Waffles came out about 10 minutes after ordering. While this may seem like a longer wait, there was a large group of us and only one worker making the waffles. The waffles itself were very flaky and not heavy at all. After hearing that they were "diet friendly" waffles, in understood why. Honestly, the waffle didn't have a ton of flavor. The rich chocolate sauce atop with the ice cream saved it in my opinion. While they were lighter than maybe a traditional Belgian waffle, I don't think this is anywhere close to a traditional Belgian waffle. I appreciated the presentation and better ingredients, but I was a little disappointed. I enjoyed my waffle here, but if you are seeking an authentic Belgian waffle, look elsewhere. This is an excellent spot for people with dietary restrictions though. These waffles are also much pricier than ones you'll find in the area and they are not very filling. I loved the presentation, the toppings, and the overall aesthetic of the eatery, but the waffle fell very short. This is, unfortunately, an example of a "TikTok tourist trap" place. If you are dairy or gluten sensitive, check this place out! If not, I would look somewhere else. Chocolate Lady Waffle 5/10
