    Thai soup
    Kimberly W.

Very cute soup shop in Gent. Every soup comes with a rice or some bread. I chose the bread and it was delicious. The staff was so nice. They have an English menu too, so don't be afraid to ask for it. I tried a Thai curry soup and it was delicious. It had a lot more greens and peppers than I expected, but it was still good. The soup paired well with the bread. I think it would've paired well with the rice too so can't go wrong with either. Great option for some delicious soup on a cold day in Gent. Amazing and friendly staff. :) 10 stars if possible

Very cute place in the center of Ghent! I got a sandwich and it was really good. Service was quick and the staff was nice. They were happy to substitute the tomatoes with carrots in my sandwich.

This is a really delicious soup and sandwich place tucked away very close to the clock tower. After a whole day of checking out Belgium's yummy (but not very healthy) fried foods and beers, I felt I needed a healthier meal today . The staff were very helpful to a non-Flemish/Dutch speaker and translated everything kindly. They're known for their soups, but the sandwiches are great as well of all kinds, with lots of meat, veggie, and vegan options. As I understand it, they have different sooups every day; today's were a tomato soup, a celery& yellow curry with garden herbs, a minestrone, a Thai soup with bamboo shoots, lemongrass, ginger, veggies, and the last soup was a Turkish lentil soup with Greek yogurt, coriander, mint. All sounded awesome , but the guy working really recommended the celery one, so I opted for for a small size of that. Delicious ! The soups come in three sizes, with about a euro's difference for each and are served with some amazing bread and butter. I thought I was really hungry so I also ordered a curry-chicken and apple with some lettuce and carrot sandwich, which was delicious as well. Everything was great, but I could not finish the sandwich because the meal was quite a bit for me. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a healthier food option in the ciry, and will come back for sure!

wow! whatta wonderful find! if you are near the hoogpoort neighborhood in ghent, this is a perfect spot for lunch. as usual, i let my nose do the talking and followed the smell of wonderful soup- it was such a gem! super crowded with locals, so you know it is legit. the place reminded me of a cool brunch stop in venice or silverlake. i had broccoli soup and it was just lovely - super light and herby; fried onions were the perfect way to add some crunch factor. the veggie sandwich was wonderful too; fresh veggies, creamy hummus-like spread, and chewy bread. let's just say we went twice while in town, which is rare for me since i like to try as many different eateries in new town. their soup could possibly be the best soup i had.

Best rated lunch place in town. Reasonably priced. Great little place. Got a chiken sandwich and Mexican soup. Both really good.

Great bread makes great sandwiches, terrific pea soup, fast service at a very reasonable price. What else can a hungry traveler ask for?

A large fries cone is 2.80 € and you want to add another 0.70 € for one of the many sauce options. I had bearnaise and both the fries and sauce where very tasty and made a great combo. A large fries here is enough for a midday lunch. Quick service and popular among locals this is a great find just after korenmarkt.

Hooiaard was still open when we arrived…read morelate last Friday, and we were able to get our fill of cheese krokets and sauce andalouse before indulging in beer. It's less of a friet cart and more of a friet-hole-in-the-wall: a well-established one with a standing plastic fry mascot and a giant waffle (though I didn't actually notice that they served waffles...) We put in our order for cheese krokets, house fries (topped with cheese and jalapenos, with thin and heavily-fried bacon strips on the side), frikandels (our friend hadn't tried them before), and a cone of fries with sauce. Then we sat on the tiny table under the--very effective--heating lamps to keep warm while waiting. I had been tempted to try a mitraillette, but was surprised not to see it on the menu. Oh well. I filled up on the cheesy fries and krokets. I wouldn't order those cheesy fries again, though. The best thing about them was the sliced peppers on top, though there weren't very many. I found the cheese a bit bland compared to my usual andalouse sauce, and ended up skirting the cheesy top to dip my fries in my friend's sauce. The cheese krokets were excellent. I usually prefer the rectangular ones that look more like a pillow than a pre-made hash brown because they have that extra crispiness, but the flavor in these oval ones was as expected. Tummy satisfied and wallets still fairly full, we moved on to the next stop: a neighborhood bar for beer.

I tried to bring my parents here for lunch however as soon as we walked through the door, the staff behind the counter didn't waste a moment of our time and informed us that there were no tables. We were disappointed but got around to doing some other shit and then by the time we were finished, figured we could go back to see if things had opened up. Fortunately, they had and we were able to snag a table easily. By this time, it was dangerously close to dinnertime and in the interest of having enough gastric space for dinner, we were light with this "snack". Both I and one of my dining companions ordered one of their soups. I don't recall much of the specifics other than the fact that it was green and delicious. Two of my other dining companions ordered the "veggie balls" which I had a chance to try, they were quite good. The veggie sushi was also ordered and received positive reviews. The inside/entrance area is really cool and they have a really impressive menu with tons of stuff. I saw some spreads/hummuses that I would have wanted to try if it weren't for the gastric space issue. I can see why it's hard to get a table!
