My husband had been to an escape room before but our daughter and I had never been to one. The three of us tried one together at EXIT in Vancouver, on West Broadway. They have different escape rooms to choose from. There are different themes for the rooms, and different levels of difficulty. We were given 50 minutes to escape the Escape Room. If we wanted help, they would stop the clock on the 50 minutes and come in to give us some hints to help us move forward with solving the different puzzles. We called for help several times but in the end, we weren't able to solve all the puzzles. We did make it 70% of the way though, and we had a ton of fun in the process! We got to snap a photo afterwards, holding up these signs with different phrases on them. While everyone contributed something to the problem solving process, I was the one who solved most of the puzzles so I chose a sign that read "Carried the Team" on it! Our work team went here for a Team Building activity. We were emailing the team for months, as we had to reschedule a couple of times, but the team were excellent with their communication and so patient with our changes. On the day, Sarv and her colleague were really great and helpful, and we had a fun time. Our only suggestion, is a functionality suggestion: in a different escape room, clue assistance was via a speaker in the room so we got it immediately, rather than losing precious minutes waiting for the staff member to arrive in the room. If this is a possibility, I think it would be a great upgrade. Regardless, staff were as fast as they could be and super helpful. I would recommend going here and our escape was pretty awesome! One team did The Mine and the other did Horcrux and both teams loved it. read more

Escape rooms aren't exactly the activity of my choice since it can get pretty pricey for such a short experience but it is definitely an interactive activity for groups so what other way to bond right? There was hardly any other groups when we went at 9pm on a Friday night but the staff were a little messy compared to the Richmond location. Their locker and briefing area is away from their front desk so the staff had to go back and forth a few times since she forget to bring locker keys, consent forms, pens, etc. We did the Avalanche room and I loved how the decor in the room. It matched perfectly with the story and the story unfolded in a comprehensible way. The group that I was with is very experienced in escape rooms so we were able to finish the room in less than 30 mins in which we received a discount voucher for next time (only applicable at that location only). I just realized there's a Yelp check-in discount so remember to check-in next time to get your first visit discount! read more

Still one of my all-time favorite escape game venues. We came back again yesterday for the Avalanche escape, and it was soooo much fun! The rooms are very nicely decorated. The story and music was amazing and very fitting. The puzzles are slightly more challenging than Arcade Frenzy but still logically solvable, super fun and very creative! I still love the good balance between mechanical and electrical puzzles. And so many fun surprises! A huge shout-out to the late Tuesday afternoon staff! No complaints about the staff, everyone was really nice. But the room itself was really lacking. It could have been good, but many of the clues were faded, or written in a font that was hard to read. The voice on a recording had a very strong accent, so it was hard to understand what we were supposed to do. Also, a door to an adjacent room was marked "not part of the game". However apparently we were supposed to ignore this sign and this room was in fact part of the game. Had we known this, we might have saved ourselves an extra 20 min. Rather than any kind of compensation, we were told that we couldn't have an extra 15 min (even if we paid for it) and that "everyone else" understood that the adjacent room was a part of game play- despite the sign stating otherwise. We are pretty experienced escape room people, and this is one that we will not return to. read more

Had high hopes for Jurassic park (and this location) but having employees come in every 5 minutes to fix a broken puzzle was pretty annoying and definitely took me out of the experience. My friends and I booked a room for 6:30PM today (Thursday) in hopes of receiving the Ladies Night discount (20% off) but we were told the discount would not be honoured today because it was a stat holiday (National Truth and Reconciliation Day). I thought this was a strange reason for not honouring a discount but didn't mind too much since we had already made plans to come here. The explanations and procedures were similar to other escape rooms I've been to- 50min, 3 hints, 3 rooms. We attempted the Haunted Mansion room. All of the other escape rooms I've been to, the employees are fairly attentive to each of the active rooms, so when you ask for a hint, they're aware of where you're stuck, which parts you've solved, and are able to come in and provide advice where needed. I found that every time we called for a hint, we had to spend time explaining where we were at, which wasted more time than needed. On top of that, the first hint we used, in the first room, we were told the radio (which is part of the first room) is often quite finicky. The employee had to bring the transcribed answer in order for us to move on. Upon entering the second room, we were, again, stuck, but decided not to use our second hint just yet because we figured we had just missed a clue. When we had about 10 minutes left, we decided to call for the second hint, only to find out we literally could not move on because the key we needed was inaccessible due to the original key being stolen the day before. For this reason, the employee was not able to access this drawer and essentially punched in the answers for us to move on. We voiced our disappointment at this point, to a female with straight brown hair in a pony tail, she seemed like the manager or shift leader, and to our surprise, rather than being apologetic, she lacked empathy then proceeded to tell us we could not receive extra time due to another booking. I, too, have worked in the customer service industry for a large portion of my life, so by no means am I ever one to only push for the "customer is always right" statement, however, I do believe that if the fault is with the company/employees, then it would only be fair if that company/employee made an effort to resolve or de-escalate the situation, especially towards customers who are paying for non-functional rooms. The employee came back shortly after, and simply stated "we will add an additional 10 minutes", to which my friend responded, it's not so much about the time, but the experience. Again, with lack of empathy, she responded "well do you not think 10 minutes is enough? How long did you spend on this one part?" There was a bit of a back and forth between my friend and this employee before we decided we should attempt to finish the rest of the escape room, however, the entire mood of the group was off at this point, mostly from the lack of customer service skills on the employee's part. Safe to say, we did not finish the rest of the room. When we exited, another employee (not the same lady as before) offered us 30% coupons, however, they were to the same location (assuming they're all franchised which is probably why it was to a specific location rather than to all locations). She was younger, and much more apologetic (genuinely). Seeing that the owner frequently responds to the comments on this page, I am not looking for compensation and I will not be back even with the 30% coupon, nor will I recommend this specific location to any of my friends or family. I am just advising better customer service training for your staff. Update: they reached out but only offered compensation in the form of having us go back rather than discussing actual compensation. They must have really upped their game in the past month, because Exit is one of the most interesting experiences I've had in quite a while. When you walk into the waiting room there are couches to sit upon and a large TV screen that plays scary-looking trailers of the rooms you're planning on going into. The whole place is painted black with neon green bits running through, and the staff is friendly and patient. Our friend was running late, and they gave us about 10 minutes to wait, even though we would start later than our expected time. It didn't cut into our playing time either- we still had 45 minutes. The six of us picked Illusions, which is one of the 'easiest' rooms to crack. The lady explaining the rules was funny and extremely informative, giving us two HINT boards to use in case we needed help. She answered all of our questions with ease and locked up our belongings in secure cases before bringing us towards the room, which was hidden behind an inconspicuous black door. There is a large clock on the wall to let you know how much time you have left, and we began in a pitch-black room with only our flashlights to guide us. The music is terrifying- I think I wanted to pass out each time it reached a certain point in the melody. The clues were relatively hard to crack, or perhaps it was just because we tended to overthink? Anyway, we had to use our hints rather quickly in the game- one of the answers, however, was so simple that the lady gave us back our HINT board and said we could re-use it later, which was very thoughtful of her. We ended up failing, and they gave us funky props to take a photo with at the very end such as flower leis. They will post it on their facebook page later and will tape it on their 'Wall of Shame'. There was a group waiting right after us to enter, so we had to scoot pretty quickly, but they were very patient with us as we scrambled to retrieve our bags. I would definitely return to try out another room, but only if I had a discount- $25 is a rather steep price for an escape game. I have not played in other locations, but the staff was helpful and patient with well-thought out puzzles, detailed props and mood-enforcing music. (Bonus- the whole place smelled divine. The washrooms all had reed diffusers that wafted throughout the game centre!) read more

[Psychedelic Saturday] E-Exit's original location on Garden city is one of my favorite room escapes in the city so I had high expectations for Exit's new location on West Broadway. We had our choice of themes and opted for the "Illusions" room as it was the least frightening for the 2 scaredy-cats in our group. (Side note: none of these room escape games involves anything jumping or popping out at you - it's only the eerie music and dark room). Illusions puts you in the role of a Spy who's been captured and drugged with some sort of hallucinogen. (Sweet!) They do a good job setting the stage and leaving you with 45 minutes armed with a pair of hints. The puzzles were fun to solve but are a tad formulaic and lock-heavy - not unexpected since this is my 18th or so room escape. A few of the first few puzzles were a little too simple and somewhat unsatisfying but the later ones were good. This was the "easiest" game of the bunch but we got stuck on the final door after wasting our final hint on a massive yet simple blunder. The room décor was quite creative and fit the theme well though I'd thought being drugged would result in seeing bright rainbow-like colors and unicorns versus dimmer surroundings. The staff here are accommodating and friendly. One of our teammates has a tardiness problem and was allowed to join us halfway through. Since we were the last group of the evening, they also allowed us a few extra minutes to solve the room while they cleaned up outside. Bonus! The Illusions room is a great intro to room-escape games and I'd recommend it to anyone. Exit Broadway has a lot of potential but it doesn't quite have the wow-factor that I'm starting to see in some of the newer lock-shops. As of right now, this place sits in my top 10. read more

We've been here twice this year, the first time in March to do the Horcrux room and in May to do the Arcade room. Our group was two adults and two teens. We enjoyed both rooms and found the puzzles to be just the right level of challenge (although we did have to ask for a clue on the Horcrux room). The Arcade room starts off pretty interesting as your 'locked-in' a seat and have to escape that first. They also have a lot of discounts, one for pretty much every day except Saturdays. There was a problem with one of the puzzles and they gave us extra time to replace the time that we had spent trying to fix it. I have a bit of a soft spot for this location as this is where I did my first escape room. My friend and I decided to do a spur of the moment escape room and didn't escape but were hooked from then on. We ended up returning the next week...and the next... The staff are all lovely and definitely reciprocate whatever energy you are giving them. Whenever my friends and I go in with an excited attitude they always make sure we have a good time. My friends even hosted a surprise scavenger hunt birthday for me and this location was one of the stops and the staff participated. I've been able to do all their rooms, including new ones that they have created. They range in difficulty but all of the rooms are well decorated. As the location has developed they've stepped away from having mostly lock boxes. The only downside to this location (and this company's other locations) is that some of their puzzles and clues don't really make sense. I'm aware you have to think outside of the box but I've had several instances where the host of the game has to explain the puzzle and how they solved it and I'm still left scratching my head. read more

We did the avalanche room which we found difficult (I still think it seems like the generator is ON the rock rather than the path next to the rock but that's fine) and did not complete, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Great experience! Fun, memorable, laughs, mentally stimulating, feels good when you find a clue and solve it. It was all of our first time, 5 people, the hardest one, CSI course. We completed it with 4 minutes to spare. Course is spooky, well designed, good props, eerier background music. There are 3 rooms, we were scared entering each room half expecting a pop up prop like a Halloween haunted house. Trick is to don't overthink the clues. Just unlock something and move on. It's a game and you're supposed to progress. I was the slowest in my group bcuz I kept backtracking to make sure we didn't miss anything. It's like a jigsaw puzzle; once you have a piece, move on, you probably don't need to touch it again. It can get a little confusing if other ppl find clues, move on, and you're still looking for the clue 2 steps behind. Involve everyone so everyone has fun; announce every thought, discovery, and action. read more

We did the Transylvania room in July as our first escape room. Of the 5 facilities I've done, this is the only one I definitely would not return to or recommend. The others may appeal to one type of person or another, but this one did not do anything well. Theme- The website says you're on vacation and wake up in a mysterious place. The pre-game speech said we were Dracula's friend trying to solve a mystery. We were confused, but it turns out it didn't matter since the story and theme have nothing to do with the puzzles anyways. Production quality- Pretty solid, probably helped by the fact that it's windowless pitch black with 2 LED lanterns. Some cool props, and generally nice looking and solid. Puzzles- Almost exclusively lockboxes. We hated these puzzles. Some made no sense whatsoever. Challenging is fine, but these were ridiculous. Even when the puzzles were explained, they still made no sense. It felt like they were just set up so that you'd have to return to finish, given only 2 hints per session. Staff- Mixed bag. Some were very friendly and helpful. One time when we asked for a hint and showed the staff member where we were on a puzzle she looked at the chart we were working on, tried to puzzle it out, then said- Oh, you should just try every combo on the lock. Because SHE couldn't figure out the puzzle. Pricing- the standard $25 per person for 45 minutes. If you don't finish a room they give you a checkpoint then if you return in 2 weeks with the same group you can start from your checkpoint with 2 new hints for 1/2 price. We thought this was a cool option, until we did the room and realised this pricing structure meant that they designed the puzzles to require a return trip. They told us success rate for first timers for the room was less than 1%. We got to the last room on our first try and finished it 15-20 minutes on a return trip, making us feel like the room was rigged that way. I've come in to play a few times now and have had so much fun every single time! The first time I ever went was on my birthday.. I heard that you get to play for FREE when it's your birthday, so I thought "what the heck, might as well". Ever since then, I've been HOOKED!! The staff were happy to honor the free birthday deal, and they were super friendly and so easy to chat with. At one point my friends and I almost forgot what we were there for because we got so caught up in great conversation LOL. I've done only 2 of the themes so far (I've decided to only try a new theme once I've beat the last one) but so far they've both been super fun. Just so you know, you get 2 hints every time you play, and the staff are pretty generous with their help, I almost feel like they're cheering us on so that we win (or at least progress)! It's pretty awesome to feel that even the actual escape room staff are on your side, which is a bit different from other escape game places I've gone to in the past who sometimes kind of seem like they're hoping you fail just so that it forces you have to keep coming back and playing. I'm so glad this Exit location opened up in Vancouver. It's only a few blocks away from where I live so I'll definitely continue to visit when I'm looking for something to do that's different from the typical movie night or dinner date. read more

Last Friday, perplexed by the recurrent question, "what are we doing tonight?" popping up in group chats, a couple of friends and I decided to try the room escape at Exit-West Broadway. If you're not familiar, it consists of real-life play-Sherlock-Holmes puzzles in order to escape rooms set up in different themes. Typically, you find a clue, that leads to another, and another, until you've discovered some sort of key (figurative or literal) to exit the room, all within a 45-minute time limit. Sound difficult? Actually, it's a fun challenge and there's no need for any specific knowledge; all you really need is a curious mind. On Friday night, very impromptu, we got a room escape after checking online availabilities. (Highly recommended so you won't have to wait around for another group to finish.) The staff were friendly and professional about explaining the rules. You're given two hints to use anytime throughout the game. Bathroom breaks are also allowed but it'll just eat into your time. We were given two tube flashlights, fit for the theme of looking around, solving this man's illusion. The props and decor were relevant but seemed a bit on the sparse side. That said, it made sense to keep it uncluttered as it allows up to six adults in one group to move about and look for clues. Game play at West Broadway was relatively linear but I really appreciated the build-up of the difficulty of the game. The first clues were relatively easy to find. Then, necessary thinking skills ramped up to get to the next steps. Ultimately, our group came close, getting 80% of the way through the game. Nevertheless, solving the problems gives you a deep sense of accomplishment. (The success kid meme pops into mind.) At Exit West Broadway, the price was 25/person. With a check-in on Yelp, you can get a 20% discount. For a night out with friends for a bit of fun that's not the usual ol' movie and popcorn or drinks at a bar, it's an engaging option for a social outing--if you feel up to it. read more

This place was so much fun! I brought my little sister here for her birthday (she's 14) and she loved it as well (she got a free admission because it was her birthday!). We actually went twice in one day because there was a deal that we could begin the same place we left off the first time and receive 50% off the second time around (my sister didn't have to pay for her second time as well). We chose the 'Illusion' room and there are several rooms; each requiring a key pass to unlock after solving the puzzles in the room. The puzzles were a bit over the top in my opinion and nearly impossible to get (hence the 1% success rate!) but the brainstorming process was still super interesting and fun for us. The room's decor was pretty awesome and interesting to look at as well. The people working there were super friendly and helpful. The cost per person in my opinion regularly is a bit high, $25 per person, but it is a fun experience so it depends how much you would like to spend. read more

Went the other night with my husband and his family and we had an absolute blast! It was all of our first experiences with an Escape room. The staff were friendly and helpful, Geordie did a great job explaining the rules as well as the back story for "Butcher Shop". We were told that was their most difficult one at the Broadway location, another friend had recommended it. While the intro seemed rushed the a bit we were fine with it because we wanted to get to into the room and get started. The puzzles were all lockbox style and while difficult they were certainly achievable. When we took our hints, we tended to be on the right track but just missing something little. Don't expect to finish the escape in the 45 minutes given. Because of this they have a check-point feature which allows you play on (immediately or within the next two weeks) for half price. Bit of a cash grab but also a great feature if you want to keep playing. We are already planning our next trip back! read more

Just got home from our first ever "escape room" experience and I think my husband and I are hooked! We were able to walk-in and get into the "Circus Room" right away - probably not typical for a Saturday night but the power was out all over the city due to stormy weather and Exit's online booking system was down which worked in our favour. The staff were all super friendly and helpful! Thank you Geordie and Jan (hope I got that right) and the nice girl whose name I didn't catch! You are all awesome people and it shows! Since it was our first time we had lots of questions and they answered them all for us before the game started and were very helpful with the "hints" while we were solving clues. No - we didn't escape the room (it's our first time!) but we had a lot of fun and will definitely take advantage of the checkpoint deal where you can return for half price and start from where your game left off. read more

My visit last week to Exit on Broadway was my first ever experience with an escape room, and I couldn't believe how fun and addicting it is! On the walk back to our car from dinner, my husband and I passed by this interesting looking store with cool black and green details everywhere. Through the windows we could see that the walls were lined with pictures of people holding up these funny "FAIL" and "DERP" signs, and the lobby was full of people, which was super intriguing. We decided to go in and ask what the store was all about and were instantly greeted by the staff who, in contrast to the darkness of the store, were animated and welcoming. They explained the concept of escape rooms and sold us on trying out their newest upgraded room, Transylvania. Before starting our game, the host clearly explained the rules and the back story for the theme we were playing. She was also very patient with us and all our questions, reassuring us that our questions weren't dumb or silly at all. I won't go into detail about what we had to do or the puzzles we had to solve for fear of giving any secrets away but I can definitely say that the experience was incredibly immersive and tons of fun! We didn't succeed on our first try but we were enjoying ourselves so much that the staff let us continue our game right from where we left off for only half price, which they called a "Checkpoint Game". It was totally worth it because by the second try we understood the logic so much better and were in the right mindset that we succeeded with 3 minutes to spare!! Judging by one of the previous Yelp reviews regarding Transylvania and how the puzzles didn't connect with the story, he surely didn't play the upgraded version that we did because, in our opinion, the puzzles and the storyline flowed rather nicely. The backstory mentioned in the previous review is also different from the one we got, which the staff told us was just newly created by their team, which I guess would make sense as to why it's different from what it says on the website. Overall, we had such a great experience. The staff and their service were on-point, knowledgable, and enthusiastic. We were never made to feel dumb or like we were failures for not understanding some of the puzzles. They were also incredibly accommodating considering how busy the store was when we walked in and that our visit was completely spontaneous and unplanned. The game and the puzzles were super engaging. We will definitely be back and we'll be sure to bring more friends next time so that we can play as an entire team. read more

I've been to quite a few escape rooms around the lower mainland, and recently tried EXIT for the first time. My experience was good overall. The service and staff were pleasant and helpful. At the end of our 45 minutes, we had asked if we could extend our time if no one was after us. We were given the option to purchase another 45 minute time block, or just continue for 15 minutes for free. We opted for the latter and it was great! We did the Circus-themed escape room. I found the clues and locks to have decent variety. It was not a particularly "scary" escape room (although it felt like it was supposed to be?), but there was good variety in the clues and use of space. The decor and props were fine - they definitely weren't at the SmartyPantz level, but good enough to get the job done. I would go back here! read more

As an avid escape room goer, I came to E-Exit with pretty high expectations. They had 2 other locations which I think is pretty impressive, but this location was the closest one to us. We chose to do the circus theme, not because we were interested in it, but more so because it was the one most suitable timing wise. The people were super nice, the service was good and the rooms were thought out. However, my gripes with this place were: 1. We were not told a story before we went into the room. I had no idea why we were doing what we were doing or what we were trying to solve. 2. The room itself was well decorated but it was lock box after lock box after lock box. Needs more to it. 3. When we asked for hints, they gave us way too much! We ended up solving the room and it was actually pretty fun but those things definitely could've made for a better experience. All in all, I'd go back and try another room. Not bad, but definitely room to be better. read more

Amazing staff and room, Avalanche was a thrill to do. If I had a gripe it was the fact that we ended up pushing against a sliding door for 3 min but thats more on us being stupid as hell than on them. Bit more locks than my body was ready for but all in all I would totally go again.
