This place has small town charm with big city taste! The Whistle Stop is a small town restaurant that offers the neighborhood charm of knowing ALL of it's customers and their preferences. But it also offers amazing food. Quality product is something that is not skipped on. The breakfast meats are locally sourced and of highest quality. The bacon is thick cut and the sausage patties are huge! You can get two or three egg omelettes of all different types. My personal favorite is the Locomotive. You can't go wrong with the hash browns or the country potatoes. Everything is made to order right down to how crispy to make your potatoes or your bacon! The pancakes are huge and have a little extra flavor that makes them unique! They offer meals in lite and hearty plates for all size appetites. Today I went there for lunch. I had the Monday Meatloaf special. It was marvelous. Sherry's meatloaf has a special ingredient (that I won't tell), but it is truly the BEST meatloaf I have ever eaten! What a cool little place! It's always hard to review a restaurant with one visit but this one actually delivers on its promise. EWS is a cute little cafe/diner that is both quaint, aesthetically pleasing, and has a nice comprehensive breakfast and lunch menu. I kept it simple and went with the cup of soup and 1/2 sandwich combo. The soup was a rich and hearty vegetable beef and the sandwich was a standard turkey that went well with the soup. Service was fast and friendly. I look forward to eating here more often. read more

Always a great choice for a full, wholesome breakfast. I've only had breakfast here and it's always been extremely delicious and satisfying. The portions are generous. It's a small place. We've often sat at the counter rather then wait 20-30 minutes for a booth. The wait staff has been there for years and are very friendly and welcoming. It's worth the drive to Exeter. read more

Stopped here by chance for a late lunch with a friend and pleasantly greeted the second we entered. The staff and service was excellent and the menu offerings were typical of a diner/cafe including fried green tomatoes! My friend had a open faced turkey sandwich which was abundant with meat, gravy, potatoes and corn on top of thick sliced homemade bread I had the Chicken sandwich on sourdough with melted cheese, grilled onions, mushrooms and plenty of yummy sauce paired with sweet potato fries and a homemade raspberry ice tea. So filling and satisfying on a windy rainy day. We were too full for a slice of homemade pie but will definitely return to sample that and more! Be sure to stop by and check this cafe out. Been to Exeter hundreds of times but never ate at Whistle Stop. It's now on the list. A small rail car, it doesn't fit a lot of people but it has a lot of fabulous food. It's a place where the ladies call everyone sweetie and joke around with you even if they don't know you. Love places like this. Reminds me of small town I grew up in. I had scrambled eggs, hash browns, bisquit and gravey and tea. I came because I wanted some good bisquits and gravey. Bisquits and gravey both fresh and yummy. So yummy I can't stop talking about it. Tea was fresh brewed and my glass was filled. Was there on a sat morning and the place was filled. Love it. Go and go often. read more

I have been going to The Whistle Stop for about five years now. We live in the Los Angeles area, and Everytime we are in the area we stop by for breakfast. We were up in the area last weekend, and to our disappointment they were closed My wife posted that. The owner got back to us and said she had a labor shortage and would be opening the next day (Sunday.) We went back on Sunday, and they were closed again!! Needless to say we were disappointed to say the least. I hope they can resolve their issues. read more

I came here with a small party of 4 for breakfast on Saturday. Since the inside seating was full, we opted to seat outside. The server, a very nice gentleman, ushered us inside after ten minutes for more comfortable seating (Flies and ants outside). The coffee was okay. We were starving, so straight to the food. They had a nice variety of omelets and standard breakfast items. The breakfast sides include fruit, toast, English muffin... nothing special. OH, wait... biscuits and grave? Yes! I ordered the Californian omelet with fruit and biscuit gravy and my partner ordered a sirloin steak sandwich. The omelet was simple and delicious. I had a bite of the sandwich, and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to bite into. It needed a tad of flavor, but it was delicious nonetheless. The biscuit looks amazing and tastes like a cross of a biscuit and cornbread. It comes with butter and a generous cup of gravy. So... good. They can't do all that much about flies outside and the seating inside is limited. We overall had a very good experience with the service and the food. I'd definitely return. read more

This place has an amazing atmosphere. I highly suggest going when a crowd will not be there since it is cozy sized restaurant and that may not be comfortable for some during Covid. I was disappointed when I didn't see eggs benedict on the menu and thought I would just settle for an omlette. I got the railroad with sausage, cheese, green pepper, and onions. It also came with hash browns and a biscuit with gravy on the side and it was A LOT of food! After I took that first bite in the omlette, I was not disappointed anymore. Usually, I feel that omlettes are bland and that's why I never usually get them, but this one was super fluffy, flavorful, cheesy and delicious! I was really surprised and knew that I need to give omlettes a chance again. The hash browns are really good as well and were cooked so it was crispy on the outside and potato-y on the inside. I didn't eat the biscuit as it was too much food, but the gravey - OMG - SO GOOD! I ate it on top of my hash browns and couldn't stop eating even after I was full. Overall, this place reminded me of why I love breakfast. They make everything in house and it's amazing.
