I have a personal 1/2 acre pond on the property, that had a riser pipe located directly in the dam. As the water ran into the pipe, it began to erode the dam around it. I reached out to Exact Stormwater to come in and replace the original riser and outlet pipe and move the riser out into the water to stop the dam erosion. They quoted a price I thought was fair and I hired them to do the work. They drained the pond and removed the existing riser and outlet pipe and installed new. My pond is fed by water runoff and takes a while to fill. The work was done in May of 2024 and with a very dry summer, the pond was not completely full until January 2025. At that time, I noticed two issues with the Exact Stormwater repair. First, the newly installed riser pipe, designed to take water out of the pond if it gets too high, was only one inch shorter than the top of my dam, not allowing any margin if a flash flood rain were to happen with a full pond. Excessive rainwater at that point, could have possibly led to major erosion of the dam if the water were to begin rushing over it. Second, the full pond and high riser turned out not to be an issue, because the pond all leaked out within two weeks after filling. The water leaked out all around the newly installed outlet pipe. I called Exact and the Civil Superintendent at Exact came out and said that they must not have packed the repair down and offered to come back out to try and fix the issue. I said that I was not comfortable with them doing the repair of the major leak and riser height issue, and requested a refund of the labor charges of the job, so I could move on to another company. The Civil Superintendent put me in communication with the outside sales rep at that Midlothian, VA office to discuss my labor refund request. That outside sales rep informed me that Exact Stormwater did not refund money. I was told they charge money to do a job and if they gave money back, they would lose money. He also added "How could he be sure the problem was not caused by the original pond builder?"
My frustration was with a company that does this type of repair everyday and had these glaring issues. I felt I needed to move on to another company for the repair and was very disappointed in Exact Stormwater and especially the attitude of the Midlothian VA office outside sales rep on the way my issue was handled. read more
