Very cramped, not clean at all. All machines are jammed together. Classes are horrible, no variety. If you're an elderly person, then they might work for you. Not challenging for someone who's used to really sweating during a workout. Also, was such an ordeal to cancel my membership. read more

They are low priced, but you get what you pay for. They are more interested in taking your money than providing a good, professional level of services. While I loved working with my personal trainer here, the equipment is not kept up well and the management refused to work with me regarding a billing dispute during the Covid crisis. I do not recommend this facility. read more

I have been going to evolve for six years since 2012. The desk staff is always friendly, and the classes are the best. What originally attracted me to evolve was the warm and safe childcare. read more

This is the best place for the money, Staff is friendly. Locker is small and member are on top of each other when changing or showering. Parking can be challenging. For $34 a month, its a great deal compared to what you would pay at Lifetime or Boston Sports Club read more

The gym is good. The people are friendly. What you need it a gym... But... I travel extensively and needed to suspend my membership as I was not going to be around. BEWARE OF DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES! Evolve Fitness engages in deceptive business practices with both its membership promotions and its billing. Evolve practices bait-and-switch tactics to get you in the door and sign. They do not have transparent membership fees, instead charge whatever they can "get" from a new member. There is a huge discrepancy between the rates that members are charged for exactly the same services. Evolve cheats its members by charging them unreasonable fees for "additional" services like placing your membership on hold due to illness or travel, expired credit cards and other insignificant issues that cost them nothing, but are a way to get additional money from members. When I cancelled I had to provide their billing company ABC Financial with 30 day notice and a written letter sent to the Arkansas office. This is yet another way that they squeeze additional money from their members and inconvenience them. In 2011, what companies can't cancel services over the phone? Due to a move I had to cancel phone, cable, internet, utilities and insurance and guess what? Every single one of them cancelled over the phone on the spot no questions asked. Simply put, Evolve and ABC could care less about their customers and will continue to rip them off as long as people continue to go there. BEWARE!!! If you don't trust my report, Google both Evolve and ABC and you'll see the many complaints against both. As a gym, Evolve is sufficient. The equipment is reasonably well-maintained and the facilities are kept clean. However, they do not take the extra step to ensure their customers are safe and happy. For example, they have not installed anti-bacterial/virus dispensers in gym. There was no response to repeated requests to add more clocks. Lastly, the membership is overwhelmingly comprised of young Brazilians who seem to think the gym is a nightclub. They seem to care less about working out and more about talking on their phones, picking each other up and wearing as little as they can. Perhaps that is acceptable in Rio, but in Framingham, MA it is not. read more

Predatory in nature, and will milk every dime out of you. Ridiculous demands to cancel a contract. Avoid at all costs!! Yes, it's the largest gym in the Metrowest area. Yes, they have tons of equipment. But here's why I chose another gym over it: 1. There was condensation on the windows. On the inside. I braced myself when walking inside and I wasn't disappointed: I opened the door and was accosted by a heat wave of sweat and damp and yuck. Hi? You're a gym. People sweat in gyms, get some better ventilation, 'cuz that's just disgusting. 2. Lots of gym equipment at the expense of elbow room. No, sir, I am NOT a sardine. Do not want touching elbows, kthx. 3. PUSHY! You're not the only gym in the area, and you obviously know that. Sleazeball sales pitches make me shy AWAY from your gym. Don't try to make me buy a 30 day trial, I've said no about a hundred times already and I know I haven't been THAT subtle. 4. I personally didn't feel...comfortable in there.... but I guess that's all on you. read more

Was a member for a number of years and finally left. The club is very over-priced for what you get. The class schedule is rather limited especially for spin and the room is used multiple times for many classes so spin bikes get trashed quickly. Be careful once you get in because the price goes up a lot every year and it takes months and multiple calls to stop the membership. Then as soon as you leave they start calling you to bring you back for lower monthly fee even though they refused to offer one when I was a member. Overall, the club smelled really bad all the time and the bathrooms were downright disgusting. So if it is really convenient, the class schedule works with your schedule, you don't need to shower there, and you can lock in a low rate then it might be worth it. But look around because there are other clubs in the area that have newer equipment, more classes and much cleaner facilities. read more

I'm from the north shore, where there are as many gyms in a town as there are Dunkin' Donuts and Tanning Salons. That's a lot. There's a lot of competition up there (and not all the multi-millionaires that inhabit the metrowest region) so membership prices are low. Also, most north shore gyms have huge, diverse selections of equipment to choose from. Maybe cause there are so many bodybuilders up there. But back to Evolve... it's like one of those North Shore gyms. Pros: 1) low price in comparison to other area gyms (all of which have less equipment) 2) best hours of any gym in the area 3) you never have to wait for euipment 4) tons of classes that change seasonally to keep it fresh, also, all the cutting-edge stuff 5) tanning in-house (and cheap-o) 6) clean showers and floors 7) sauna and steamroom 8) they have some ground zero equipment (my fave) 9) private women's area.. good for doing those thigh exercises 10) Lots of TVs What I don't like so much about Evolve: 1) They got rid of the freight scale you weigh yourself on!! 2) Constant management changes 3) They don't have all the Ground Zero equipment 4) Customer service. It's not awful, but it could be a little better. 5) Wish they had more yoga classes in the early hours (yoga's not just for stay-at-home Moms!) As far as joining fees and contracts, and sales pitches... that's the same at every and any gym out there! I was truly shocked when gym shopping to see the prices of other area gyms-- upwards of 80 dollars a month to work out somewhere with minimal equipment, barely any classes, and which is hardly ever open!?! Yeah right. Evolve, at my 34.99/mo. rate, is the most for your money out here in the MetroWest Area. read more

They aren't going to tell you this when you sign up, of course. But even after your year contract is over they are going to trap you into paying for more. So enjoy the gym but watch your own back when it's time to move on because they won't help you. At least 30 days before the billing date that you want to be your last, call the gym so they can give you the number to the billing company that handles all their cancellations. Get the address from them so you can write your letter to be sent to the billing company. An actual letter not an e-mail. Make sure you get that letter sent out AT LEAST 30 days BEFORE your billing date because you are responsible for any charges they put on your card from 30 days of the letter. Even if your year contract is up. Or you've been there two years. Five years. Whatever. Seriously, just read the contract and don't let the person signing you up trick you into thinking its going to be easy. I talked to the general manager and she kept telling me that all gyms are like this. But I've belonged to four gyms before this one (including Healthworks which is awesome so if you can afford it ladies I definitely think you should check it out first) and have never had a problem before. But if you're reading this and saying to yourself "everytime I've wanted to cancel my membership after my contract was up I had to write letters to billing companies and kept getting charged in the meantime," then you are more worldly than I and please disregard this review. To be fair the GM was seriously very nice as she told me she wasn't going to help me and to call the billing company instead. That sounds sarcastic but its not. She was nice. read more

BEWARE OF THE BUSINESS PRACTICES Don't fall for their promotions and be careful about signing anything with them. I received a promotion when I moved to the area and paid for 2 years up front. I was forced to sign for an automatic renewal but they promised that I would be notified 30 days before end of membership so that I could cancel. Well, I got hurt and couldn't go for rest of membership and starting getting bills after the membership ended. THEY won't give you 30 days notice, but YOU have to. The bimbo on the phone said..."well, we would have told you if you came to the club" Then they had the cojones to call and ask why I cancelled. All I can say is BEWARE!! They are out to rip you off. In return, the place is dirty and the woman's bathroom is filthy. read more

The gym itself is okay, their billing practices somewhat shady. I frequented Evolve for over a year, finally cancelling (or so I thought) my membership when I was going to be leaving the area. My credit card kept being charged so I cancelled it (thankfully it was one I rarely used anyhow) and then began receiving harassing phone calls and emails from them which did not stop until I got someone on the phone and explained I had CANCELLED my membership and was now living almost an hour away. I do remember when I used to walk in, depending on who was at the desk, I would either be greeted somewhat warmly, given a passing "hey" or not at all. I would never go back. read more

The sleazeball approach to selling gym memberships. I was a member here for over a year. I left to join a more affordable gym, wanted to come back and they wanted me to sign a new super-long contract, at a very high monthly rate. My previous membership meant nothing. The salesman was patronizing, using language like "This offer is only good for 48 hours" and saying facts about my current gym that weren't true. I wrote a letter to the company president expressing my disappointment, and I never heard a word back. Please! If my experience and those of the other reviewers are any indication, look for this place to close and for the owner to run off with membership money, chased by lawsuits, or at the very least get cited for unethical/borderline illegal business practices. Give me a break. read more

Three stars for the actual gym. Evolve is definitely a gym where you can get a good workout. I am the biggest sucker in the world so I got sucked into a 2 year contract after buying a Buywithme to Evolve. I have to agree with all of the other yelpers in terms of the contracts. Evolve does try to squeeze every dollar they can out of you. They also don't provide hand towels. It's really not a big deal, but I like hand towels. read more

I did join Evolve about 6 months ago but took the reviews about difficulty cancelling membership seriously, particularly where I was burned badly on this front by another gym (the YMCA, believe it or not!). So, I paid in cash for the year. Still had to sign the membership contract, and plan on renewing, but no credit card billing to disentangle myself from if/when I move on. I thought the price I paid was quite reasonable (with all charges it works out to about $36/month) though I am sure there are members there who got a better or worse deal than I did and pay a different price. As for it as a gym, I think it is excellent for the price. I've never once had to wait for equipment. They have a ton of treadmills and elipticals. The nautilus and free weight equipment is also very plentiful and varied, and they have a lot of interesting gear including the TRX stuff, punching bags, kettleballs, and lots of other neat gadgets. There are lots of strolling trainers and staff who of course would love to be hired for personal training (which is pricey but good) but will offer free pointers as well. The best thing about Evolve, though, is definitely the classes. They have a nice variety, they run consistently, and the instructors are really good. Zumba gets crowded, but the Les Mills courses run with reasonable numbers and never feel too packed. The instructors of all classes make it accessible and appropriate to everyone from the new participant through the fitness buff. Sooo... if you can work around the billing system with a cash up front membership, I do highly recommend this club. read more

I have to say that Evolve is good enough that I stayed there and kept going for more than four years. Staff is friendly, equipment good enough. BUT -- membership dues have gone up 80 percent in those four years. AND -- when I sent written instructions to cancel my membership (after four years, I am not on a contract), those charges just kept on coming. I might have thought it was an accident or oversight -- but the predatory practices just keep on coming..... read more

People seem ok and equipment good My biggest complaint is: On their website - http://evolvefitnessinc.com/locations/evolve-fitness-framingham-ma/ It says: AMENITIES TRX System Indoor Sprint Track Large Turf Functional Area Cardio Equipment Circuit Training Kettlebells Exec Lockers Free Weights Free WiFi Most of the above is true except the Indoor Sprint Track - the "Indoor Sprint Track" is about 20 paces (20 yards or 20 meters) in area where people stretch and use various other CF movements like box jumps and a weight sled Indoor Sprint Track - so the above description by me - this is not an INDOOR SPRINT TRACK - kind of false advertising. I like the gym and the people seem ok. Please take INDOOR SPRINT TRACK off your Amenities on your webpage. It is an area where if no one was their - you could do a shuttle run or very very very short sprint. Not an INDOOR SPRING TRACK read more

I want to buck the trend for some of the ratings Evolve Fitness has received. I think this is decent gym, better than what the ratings here would have you believe. Pros: A lot of equipment. Rarely will one have to wait for something. The equipment seems to be decently maintained. Good trainers. Lot of classes - Most are free of charge. Babysitting facilities Juice bar and tanning - for those who want it. Cons: The parking lot. Pricing (monthly dues + training) can seem a bit high. But they have 'deals' every now and then. I haven't experienced the cancellation issues, or shady business practices or improper information sharing (as listed in other reviews). So I will stay away from those. Basically - Its a gym, good enough for those who live or work close-by. There aren't too many great options around. I'd give it 3.5 stars, but the additional half a star for having baby-sitting facilities! read more

I have mixed feelings about Evolve, but I have to give props to the great customer service and the locker room. The gym itself is small with enough machines for weekday mornings and a women's only area. The stretching are is pretty small and the layout leaves little open space, but it is clean and you won't have to fight anyone for a turn on a machine (in the mornings anyway). I should admit, I've only been here twice. I bought a Groupon for $20 for a 3 month membership, thinking it would be a great "back-up" gym since it's near where I work and my schedule is unpredictable. It ended up being out of the way and the class schedule just did not mesh with my work schedule. I wish I could say that was the only reason I'm not becoming a member, but, if I'm being honest, the classes were just so-so. If you're used to yoga and Pilates or other cardio classes in Boston, these classes are probably not going to exhilarate you. It's almost as if Evolve's classes are 10-15 years behind in the trends in exercise. Sure, I worked up a sweat and felt good afterwards, but the classes just didn't blow my hair back. The customer service here is great, though. I forgot a towel once and was offered one free of charge (I think they usually cost $2 to rent). Also, a woman called me to ask how I was enjoying the gym, which was nice. read more

Very large, great parking, good price, good atmosphere, hasnt been packed yet, nice locker rooms. Looking forward to the punching bag set up upstairs. I guess ill just have to say i wish there was more water pressure in the showers, and more water fountains, theres only 2 in the entire place. lll be coming here as much as possible after work. Water pressure is still killing me! read more

For what I paid, this place serves its purpose (I bought my membership using a groupon.) There is plenty of equipment and the trainers are pretty good. I signed up to do a year of personal training as well. The temperature of the gym tends to be on the warm side which makes working out somewhat uncomfortable during the summer and when it's humid. The women's restroom isn't very clean and doesn't even have paper towels or kleenex (which is not fun during allergy season or if you are trying to practice good hand hygiene. I make a beeline straight to the very few Purell dispensers that they have and hope that it actually has Purell in it after using the restroom.) So overall...it has potential, but still needs quite a bit of work. read more

The gym itself is okay, no complaints. I did mostly classes for awhile, then I did mostly machines on my own. The instructors were good. When I signed up they had sent me a card outlining what seemed to be a pretty good deal. Then they pulled a bait and switch. I considered the actual offer they made because it was still not bad and I was led to believe that I could cancel it. Not true. I called to cancel because I moved far away and they told me that I had to have moved 25 miles away or have a disability. I have neither so I am stuck. Now they have new management and no long term contracts. I thought I would ask them again if they would be willing to cancel. Nope, same thing. I definitely wish I had come here first to read reviews of this place. Fool me once. Now I am stuck paying the fee until October and I will barely be able to ever use it. read more

This place has potential. the offer amazing interaction with the trainers as part of the monthly fees, which is great. my only issue was that the showers where bush league at best. and the towel service is a joke... (for a few bucks a month you get a glorified napkin...) if they get it together, and maybe get a few real heavy bags, it might be a real nice gym. UPDATE: I have been informed that new "large plush" towels have been added. i can not confirm this. read more

Well, I can definitely say I wish I had frequented yelp before I joined this gym in July. I agreed to an 18 month contract because I was promised that there were no cancellation fees and you could cancel quickly if you were moving more than 25 miles from either location (Framingham or Cambridge). Facility wise, most of the cardio machines are functioning and the weight machines in the main rooms work well. The women's only section could use some repair. I took a few of the exercise classes and they were good, with the only downside of having people watch you from the windows facing into the main exercise area. The staff are generally friendly or ignore you, so no problems there. The membership included two sessions with a personal trainer, who was great but pricey. The office assistant made untrue assumptions about my income and tried to disagree with me about what I could afford. It was an unpleasant conversation. The main issue is trying to cancel my membership since I am moving 7 hours away. There is an $89 cancellation fee, which I agreed to pay despite being openly deceived on the matter. The big issue is that their financial company in Arizona will not accept my multiple forms of proof that I am moving (Lease, job offer letter). It is essentially impossible to cancel until you have already lived in the new area for close to or over a month, forcing you to pay for extra months of unused service. read more

Great staff! From Customer Service when you walk in, to the Membership Consultants, Personal Trainers and their owners. I've been coming to this facility since the fall of 2014 and have not had a single issue. The separation of equipment from the cardio deck, machines, to the back room with free weights is unlike any other club and doesn't make me feel like I'm crowded by other members. Very friendly environment. Whenever I have a question I've always been able to get guidance from Dana who is a great Personal Trainer. Have not had an issue with billing and the MCs (Membership Consultants) are very clear and straightforward when I signed up. I agree with many of the fellow yelp reviews. They are extremely shady in their business practices. I had signed what I thought would be a month-to-month "trial" period (once again, great marketing) which turned out to be a 12 month contract. When I had asked to cancel or 'freeze' my account due to relocation, the 'freeze' actually extened my contract for an additional 3 months (so they earn $10/month, plus a 3 month extended contract fee $29.99/month added on to your current contract. They gave me the run around and claimed if I wanted to cancel I would have to deal with their third party payment and billing department which is indeed, out of state. (They had no time for my situation or claim) After finally opting to "freeze" my account, I was still charged mysterious "maintenence" and "service" fees throughout the term. I had called numerous times to complain or speak to a manager but my calls were never returned. Bottom line, they want your money. They could care less about your results. If you want to slim down your bank account, I encourage you to sign up. Those are the only real results from this phony place. read more

Tried both clubs before signing up. Clean well maintained facilities with a large variety in equipment. I've been at a $10 club and there's no comparison for the little extra you pay here. Posting lot is a little small but there are two adjacent lots so it doesn't seem to be a problem. Very happy I made the switch! read more

I love local businesses where you can walk in and talk to the owner; that's true here. He's usually working out or training someone, so you know this gym has an attention to detail in terms of cleanliness, working order of the machines, customer service, etc. that you can't find at the big chains. Nice gym but a NIGHTMARE to cancel. When I signed up I paid for first and last month. When I wanted to cancel, I had to pay the last month again!! I told them I had already paid the last month when I signed up and I was told i didn't have to worry and that it would be taken care of. NOT! I was billed the 44.99. I called to see what happened and was told I would get a refund. NOT! I decided to go to the gym and ask in person. The girl at the front desk had no idea about a refund and said I would get an email. NOT!! I called a few days later after still not receiving the refund or email and was told it would be taken care of. I would not get billed for the last month. NOT! I had to get my bank involved and dispute the charge. The money wasn't the issue but the fact they were being shady af trying to take money from people. Functional gym and for the money a great deal. They have everything you'd need for a full workout and classes as well. Some of the machines have old coverings with cracks and duct tape. A bit of added attention wouldn't hurt. Parking can definitely be a challenge at peak hours. I do not find the staff to be the least bit friendly. Been going there for some time and I'm sure they have no idea who I am nor do they make eye contact. It seems the majority of the better reviews come from women. No doubt the male staff is a bit more friendly towards them. read more

I was extremely excited when I saw that Evolve had a deal for a free 7 day all access pass to give the gym a try. I'm looking for a new gym that I could potentially invest in as I just left my other one. When I got there I filled out a piece of paper about myself (that's fine, but some of these questions are way too personal and nitty gritty for just an overall "basic" questionnaire). I met with a woman who looked over my paper and was questioning my every answer. "Why are you only an 8 at goals? You think you can motivate yourself?" - she was going way too in depth for a first meeting and kind of came off as condescending. I'm here to learn about your equipment, not be judged on my goals and the way I go about things. She took me around the facility, which is nice, I will give them that. Once we sat back down and I told her that I go back and forth from MA to CT because I'm a graduate student. She then tells me "Because you're a student you can't get the free pass" OKAY THEN... where in the T&C's on the flyer say "Doesn't apply to students" - that's the first scam. Second is when she did a break down for me on the rates and I said I didn't want to commit right now. Isn't that the whole point of having a SEVEN DAY ACCESS PASS so you can figure out if you like the facility within those SEVEN days NOT ONE. I have never dealt with such pushy and off-putting people. I asked if I could workout for free just for today because I came with my brother (who has a membership) and he drove so I have to wait for him. She said if I want to pay $10 I can. Well, that is a JOKE. Good luck with trying to get more people into this gym. I will most definitely not give you my business. read more
