After seeing Larry on the Frugal Tesla Guy and reading all of the great reviews here, I decided to have Larry do the install on our 2018 Model 3. Larry was able to come to our house to do the install within a couple of days of my calling him. The whole thing took him around 2 hours. I'm really happy with how easy it was to arrange and how clean the install was. We have had it for almost two months now. I would say that the products exceed our expectations. I find myself using the frunk about 10X as often than I used to. The foot sensor for the trunk makes it much easier to get into and out of the trunk when both hands are full.
We had the following Hansshow products installed:
* Power trunk V4. The trunk can be opened or closed from Tesla app or from screen in car. It can also be closed with a button on the edge of the trunk cover.
* Power frunk V3. The frunk can be opened or closed from Tesla app or from screen in car. It can also be closed with a button inside the frunk itself.
* Foot sensor. This lets you open or close the trunk hands-free, with just a kick of the foot under the trunk.
Some shortcoming of the the power trunk:
* Closing the trunk from the screen inside the car can take a few attempts. The way it should work is that once the trunk is opened, the car is tricked into thinking that it is in the closed state so that the open button is displayed. Pressing it causes the trunk to close. What actually happens is the open button on the screen flips back and forth between a state where the car thinks that the trunk is open and a state where the car thinks that the trunk is closed. If you press when the car thinks the trunk is already opened, nothing happens. You have to hit the button at just the right time. This issue seems to affect the trunk but not the frunk. Larry explained that it's because different types of sensor are used in the trunk vs the frunk. Most of the time, we close the trunk from the button at the trunk itself so this has not been a big deal.
* My wife just noticed that when she parked the car facing uphill, the trunk did not close all the way but stopped once it reached a horizontal position. This may be something that the company can fix in the future.
Overall, we have been very happy with the products. I wish I could have had this done earlier. When I look at the rear of the car just below the license plate, I can see an area where the paint is dull. This is from closing the trunk by hand and rubbing dirt/dust into the paint with each closing of the trunk, something that is avoided with a product like the power trunk.
If, like me, you have not spent enough time around cars to be comfortable with installing the Hansshow products yourself, I'd recommend having Larry do the install for you. read more
