As a famous Earth psychoanalyst once said, "sometimes an IGA is just an IGA". (At least I think that's what he said; there are some dead pixels on my reading pad, so it's possible I missed some letters.) At any rate, this statement is completely incorrect. (Yet another reason to be skeptical about the human approach to psychotherapy. For heaven's sake, their therapists aren't even telepathic!) Or at least, inaccurate -- at least in this instance. For the Winthrop Evergreen IGA is NOT just an IGA. For those Starfleet personnel who have yet to experience an IGA, let me explain that in general, an IGA is a functional but unexceptional retail environment in which humans acquire routine foodstuffs. And certainly, that is possible here. But this IGA improves on the usual model by offering a solid selection of locally produced goods. That includes a shelf full of soaps, coffees and other local delicacies. It also includes a produce section that clearly flags seasonal items from local farms. For those of us here on research missions, that is a huge time-saver. The Evergreen IGA is an excellent place for Starfleet personnel to satisfy their nutritional requirements. It is also a surprisingly useful place to satisfy their curiosity about the products of the Methow Valley. read more

It's the only grocery option in town which may be why they don't strive for the highest quality, the best service, lower prices, nor the most interesting selection. One frustrating aspect is that they close at 7 or 8 pm, depending on the time of the year. aak! Even more frustrating is when you show up at 6:45 and they have already shut down the produce section and then turn off the store-wide lights on you. hint-hint, yeah. I get it. This is the worst! Nothing says "I come first, the customer comes second" than having the establishment run people out BEFORE the stated closure time. The first question that comes to mind here is, "don't you want my money??" but then I realize there is zero competition so you end up with some of it anyway... The staff are largely, individually, friendly, I'll give them one extra star for that. read more

This is a decent store to shop at. I see that a lot of people are complaining about the prices in their reviews. When I shopped here in 2012, they were actually worse! I would give it 4 stars, but the pricing will keep it at 3. Just don't get mad, accept that this is normal for a fairly remote tourist-oriented store. Unless you want to drive 40 miles to Okanogan, this is it. Fortunately, it is a more than adequate store for a country store in a small tourist town. I am actually, satisfied with it because it is far more than a 7-11 which is often times all you get in many towns! Anyone criticizing this store may have their expectations too high. You will find something close to what you are looking for if you shop here. BTW - the staff at this store are fine. I've seen pretty much the same people here for the last 4 years in the multiple times I have stopped here. Always decent, some are even (gasp) friendly and fun to talk to... read more

Now called the Evergreen IGA (920 Hwy 20 S)... It stinks that this was the closest place to buy groceries or we should've gone somewhere else. When asked where the restrooms were the cashier was smug and said outside around the corner. She didn't say they were port-o-potties. My husband turned right around as they weren't clean. It had poop on the floor and in the urinal. Obviously hadn't been cleaned in a LONG time. Employees must not have to use that restroom themselves and the owner probably doesn't care either. Never heard of a grocery store not having a public restroom. read more

The staff are friendly and helpful. I like that for sure. The prices are high, but I guess that's what you get in a small tourist preppy town. I could save some money by going to Twisp but the IGA is convenient so that's where I shop. This store has a rewards program which amounts to $1 per $100 spent, and for the last five months it has remained at $4. I am asked each trip (nearly every day) if I want to use it. I have always said no. Since I spend at least $500 a month (or more) for groceries, I should have another $25 coming, probably more. This smalll amount per $100 makes no difference in our standard of living, but I do believe that if a store has a rewards program, it should be an honest one. One clerk has suggested that it is 'upped' every quarter (she thinks) but clearly this is not the case. The others I've asked haven't a clue. My question is...if you're going to have a rewards program, why aren't you honoring it? read more

I live in the methow and I had not shopped in this store for over twelve years. The reason being is that the prices are not all that great. The poeple that work there are rude and unfriendly. Well I went there with and elderly friend to help her shop. I can honestly say that they have set a new level of rudeness. How this place stays open is beyond me. The meat dept is a joke as well as the produce dept. Over priced on just about every item in the store. The checker didn't even lift her head to say hello or anything for that matter not even a thank you. I looked for the (manager) and let him know how displeased I was with the checkers attitude. His reply was that thats just her personality. Well there was no personality to be had. Why would you have someone with the personality of a block of wood at the check out? She would be fired if that was an employee of mine as well as the manager. Maybe thats place is acceptable for the people that shop there. I know that I dont need to spend my money there. read more

If you spend any extended time in the methow valley you should know that the red apple is the last place you'd want to buy your groceries. Go to twisp! It may be out of the way but you'll save Money and the people are friendlier. read more
