Nice, clean, friendly-- great gas station w/ lots of hot food options and the best hot chocolate in the state. Two thumbs up.

I wholeheartedly wish that there was a North 40 outfitters store in my native Southern California…read more But as my younger brother says whenever we visit, this place could not exist like this in SoCal. It's sort of like if Lowe's, Home Depot, Bass Pro, Tractor Supply, your favorite fly fishing shop we're all rolled into one store, with only the best parts manifested in the aisles. And that's to say nothing of the saddlery, garden center, farm supply, and livestock sections, to name a few. The service here from every member of the staff borders on annoying, but in the most positive way... Everyone on the floor, asks you if you need assistance, but they don't pester you. One of them I've ever connected with is knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile to not only make the sale, but make you happy about it. On a recent trip, my son popped a hole in his waders-- not a great thing when you're standing waste deep in 30° alkaline water. The gentleman and the fly shop went out of his way to help us find a pair that fit him, and honored the clearance sale price to get him a $400 pair of waiters for under 70 bucks. More recently, the same kid a year older needed a pair of gloves to endure an unseasonable cold spell that had hit the area. One of the nice gals on the floor, explained that they were switching over to spring, but went out of her way to help him find an inexpensive pair of gloves to keep on fishing. Incredible selection, nothing locked up behind security glass like we have in Los Angeles County, and did I mention the cute little baby chicks of every variety? They don't travel on the airplane very well, but if I had a piece of land up there, I'd have chickens all over it because of this place. Hands-down, this is the best outfitter store I've ever visited, and that's saying something. We visit Mac once a year for Fishing, and no trip is complete without at least a few stops at North 40. We may not be frequent visitors, but we're customers for life.

This guy clearly despises anyone who fishes or anyone who is in the sport. I got a long lecture on how horrible the fishing conditions are, and felt that if I would be entertaining any fishing opportunities, I would be doing the fishing industry, a huge disservice. He was appalled that I walked into the store to purchase fishing tackle! I inquired about where to fish and felt obligated to buy something which only made matters worse! Not all fisherman are out there to "kill fish" as he suggested but to get out in nature and enjoy God's beautiful creation. I would never recommend going into the shop. The prices are high, the owner is a complete douche bag and if you want to feel like a complete tool for wanting to fish, this is your place. If I could give negative stars I would.

If I said this is was the worst treatment I've ever encountered in a store, I'd be underestimating how terrible the owner treats customers. To be humane about it, we wondered if he might have a mental condition that compels him to be rude. Typical, inadequate selection of overpriced items. You'd only come here in the most desperate of circumstances. By that I mean after you've asked every one else if they would loan or sell you what you may need. Please do yourself a favor - avoid.
