We had a wonderful Saturday dinner at Himalayan Curry & Grill in Lancaster. They were incredibly…read morekind and accommodating, fitting us in with a last-minute reservation -- but I highly recommend booking at least a few days in advance. This is an intimate BYOB spot, and it was completely packed when we arrived. The atmosphere feels cozy and authentic -- the kind of place where you know care goes into both the food and the hospitality. We ordered the chickpeas, cauliflower, and a mango lassi. One thing we really appreciated: they asked us what spice level we preferred. My wife doesn't like spicy food, and they thoughtfully prepared everything mild for us without sacrificing flavor. The chickpeas were outstanding -- rich, well-seasoned, and deeply satisfying. The cauliflower wasn't quite to my personal taste, but it was well prepared. And the mango lassi? Absolutely amazing -- creamy, refreshing, and the perfect complement to the meal. Portions were generous, and the service was prompt and genuinely excellent throughout the evening. If you're in Lancaster and enjoy flavorful Himalayan and Indian cuisine in a cozy BYOB setting, this place is definitely worth a visit -- just plan ahead and make that reservation.

We all enjoyed the handsome chicken lollipops (fried chicken, no gravy) and chicken momo sizzling (delicious dumplings served with sizzling sauce). My Himalayan shrimp curry (with gravy on the side) was delicious, and my friends' veg ball korma makani fusion and tikka masala fusion were also delicious. We ordered the sizzling chicken momos - I wish I ordered more of these because these were delicious and the sauce on it was so good. I ordered the chicken manchurian but it was nothing like I was expecting... chicken manchurian usually has some stir fried veggies with it. This felt more like a teriyaki chicken because the sauce was dark and the soy flavor was overwhelming so I couldn't taste much else. My husband got the beef noodles, which were alright. Good flavor in the sauce coating the noodles and the beef was ok but nothing special. Parking is available in the small lot. Overall, I'd come back just to order a bunch of dumplings but nothing else.

The space was decorated with lively decor, inviting, and unsurprisingly packed full when my partner and I visited for a Saturday dinner. If it's full when you arrive, you simply put your name down at the counter in the back. It was a simple process, and we were seated sooner than the 20-minute wait that was told. The service was super friendly and prompt, getting dishes out at a solid pace and checking in on us. I personally appreciated their suggestions and brief chatting after hearing it was our first time visiting. We ordered multiple items off their menu, which has a lot of choices that are also vegetarian-friendly and customizable for diners with dietary restrictions. They're well-known for their Momo, which we had to try! In hindsight, I feel like I would've liked their spicier variety more as a fan of hot foods, but the classic Himalayan momo was excellent nonetheless. The sauce was delicious and paired well with the flavors. My favorite was their Gha (eggplant), which had me wanting more to each bite. The only moment that went wrong, albeit comically, was that our ice cream dessert melted quite quickly because of the restaurant needing to stay warm! White Yak definitely meets the seal of approval for both casual and delicious dining. Among the many highlights in Manayunk, this one stands just as tall as any.

My wife, acting as both navigator and oracle, found Norbu after I asked for something within walking distance of our hotel. Four Himalayan restaurants, all within a short stroll, which felt statistically suspicious in the heart of Amish country. We chose Norbu because it had the best reviews and, more importantly, because it offered Nepalese and Bhutanese dishes, which none of us had ever tried. We are a family that tries to make it a point to say yes to the unknown. Finding it is part of the adventure. Norbu is tucked along North Christian Street, though calling it a street feels optimistic at best. It is more of a very committed alley. The restaurant sits inside an office building with a few brave parking spaces placed carefully on postage stamp sized lot out front. Had we been driving, I am certain we would have missed it and continued on, poorer for the experience. Fortunately, we were on foot and arrived intact. Inside, the place was alive at 7 PM. There were low tables with stools that suggested a more traditional way of dining, and a couple of unoccupied standard tables for those of us still learning. We took one of the latter and were seated quickly. We began with momo, a dish that seems like could quietly solve many of the world's problems if placed on the right tables. Soft, hand folded dumplings, steamed and served with a savory chutney. We ordered the "Mix It All" option, which gave us vegetable, beef, and chicken. Each had its own personality, its own quiet argument for why it should be your favorite. My older son ordered the Sweet N Sticky Tofu, which was the most familiar thing we ate all night. It tasted like a thoughtful conversation between General Tso and sesame tofu. Very good, very well executed, just less novel. I had the Pak Sha Datsi, the national dish of Bhutan, which I did not know until I read it on the menu and our server filled in the missing information with patience and enthusiasm. Norbu itself, we learned, is rooted in Himalayan traditions and a desire to share the food and culture of Nepal and Bhutan with a wider audience, which feels like a noble use of time. The dish arrived as a gently spiced stew with pork and a blend of aged and smoked cheeses. It was creamy, delicate, and somehow grew more interesting with every bite. It did not resemble anything I had eaten before, which is a rare and welcome thing as I grow ever older. My wife and younger son both ordered the Nepali Thali, a kind of edible symphony made up of curry, lentils, vegetables, chutneys, pickles, and a dessert pudding. My wife chose the fish curry, which was tender and lightly flavored. My son chose the chicken curry, which quietly became the star of the table. It had a familiar warmth, something like Indian curry, but with its own distinct voice. The accompanying mustard greens, curried potatoes, and a simple mix of green beans, corn, and carrots, were so flavorful that we found ourselves marveling at them like tourists at a natural wonder. Service was excellent. Our waitress guided us through the menu, made thoughtful suggestions, and shared a bit of the restaurant's story. By the end of the meal, we felt not just fed, but informed. Our only failure was not saving room for dessert. There was a chai flavored cashew cheesecake that sounded like it might change a person's outlook on life. We will have to return to test this theory. Norbu is the kind of place you hope to find and rarely do. It is hidden, a little hard to reach, and entirely worth the effort. Five stars, because sometimes you find something amazing and new, and that reminds you that the world is still full of good surprises.

For the 7 that decided to go family-style, we shared: - Nepali Himalayan noodles with egg and vegetables (so good that we got a second round!); - Nepali Himalayan chicken fried rice (another table favorite!); and - 5 momo orders (goat, chicken x3, and shrimp) all of which were tasty, though personally I liked the savory ones more than the sweeter (e.g., the chicken tika momo) and the chicken and shrimp more than the goat, which had great flavor but was tougher than the others). We had one diner in our group who didn't love spicy food, so we stayed at a level 2 for most dishes. We did get the goat at a level-4 and it wasn't that spicy. Would definitely level up next time, depending who came along! A few diners got Mango Lassis, which were thick and delicious. Service was good and it seemed like the restaurant was also churning out take-out orders. Can't wait to go back!

The filling seemed to be cabbage and potato. The filling in the Shrimp Tandoori Momo was diced shrimp. Both had good flavor. Neither was really spicy though I remember from a past visit that other varieties are. The mango lassi was refreshing. Four stars instead of five because one entree is really not enough for a meal. A little more filling in the dumplings might've helped with that. I would still go back.

I'm doing a little happy dance in my seat, humming and dancing, cause the Chicken Chili was a flavorful punch of savory and sweet heat. The chunks of chicken were perfectly tender, something many restaurants can't seem to accomplish - so props for DF for succeeding. An order of garlic naan, omg Good - pillowy, butter, fresh garlic LOVED it. This is when the meal begins to descent downward. My fried momo's arrived, though tasty, much smaller than the picture shown on the menu. I was served miniature momos, in my opinion. My hubby, always wanting to try something new, ordered a selroti - the picture showed a stack of four very large onion ring looking things and the menu read, deep fried sweet rice flour, crispy exterior, soft fluffy on the inside. My cuddly dudd socks are soft, fluffy; this interior was hard, chewy; I actually had to continuously chew on it for a few minutes, to get the momentum going, to soften this, whatever it was. And instead of four pieces, we received one (highly doubt my teeth could have handled three more rings). Lastly, my meal gave me a migraine; this was a first for me. When I heated up my leftovers, my migraine reappeared - very odd indeed.
