Coming from Center City was well-worth the experience to try one of the only restaurants in the region serving Tibetan cuisine. The space was decorated with lively decor, inviting, and unsurprisingly packed full when my partner and I visited for a Saturday dinner. If it's full when you arrive, you simply put your name down at the counter in the back. It was a simple process, and we were seated sooner than the 20-minute wait that was told. The service was super friendly and prompt, getting dishes out at a solid pace and checking in on us. I personally appreciated their suggestions and brief chatting after hearing it was our first time visiting. We ordered multiple items off their menu, which has a lot of choices that are also vegetarian-friendly and customizable for diners with dietary restrictions. They're well-known for their Momo, which we had to try! In hindsight, I feel like I would've liked their spicier variety more as a fan of hot foods, but the classic Himalayan momo was excellent nonetheless. The sauce was delicious and paired well with the flavors. My favorite was their Gha (eggplant), which had me wanting more to each bite. The only moment that went wrong, albeit comically, was that our ice cream dessert melted quite quickly because of the restaurant needing to stay warm! Such an amazing find near the Wissahickon to stop in for a bite after a long hike. I hadn't tried Tibetan food before, but am an instant fan. The food is light and flavorful, similar to many Asian dishes I've had before and then not at the same time. The lemonade was delicious and refreshing. A family member recommended we try this place near them and we were very pleasantly surprised ... as we've never had Tibetan food before. It reminded us of other kinds of Asian food, but slightly different. We started with the tasty Combo Momo (chicken/beef/veggie dumplings) ... which could be either steamed, fried or the khotrak (pan fried) that we picked. We then decided to share the (nice) Whole Fried Fish (Branzino) with (underwhelming) special sauce, (super) Crispy Pork Ribs, and (tasty) Chicken Curry along with a side of their Steamed Bun for dipping. Service was a bit slow, but the atmosphere was very mice. This place in Roxborough wasn't as good as I remember it previously. It is one of the only Tibetan restaurants I am aware of in Philly. Honestly, it is still one of the best Tibetan restaurants in the city (although I haven't tried much Tibetan food previously). When we came in, the shop was pretty empty. It was Halloween so it is possible that a lot of people weren't able to come in. I ordered the chicken chili momo and Tibetan style chicken curry. The chili momo was pretty good looking dumplings. I really found the inside of the chicken dumplings very interesting. It tasted like a chicken salad in the center. I didn't think the spiciness of this dish really added to the flavor. I did like the burn of this dish. With the Tibetan curry, we also ordered the Ting mo-Tibetan steam bun. The curry also had rice that came with it. read more

Entirely too loud. My phone showed it at as much as 91 dB and that's the same as a lawnmower.They could use some hangings or tapestries to cut the reflection sound. The menu is very interesting. It is BYOB. We tried the butter tea and am happy to have tried it, but won't be ordering it again. Ordered the Tibetan barley soup Tsamthuk, it was tasty. The menu picture shows more stuff in the soup than what we received. But we finished the bowl. Take care ordering the special momos as the Himalayan is spicy the firecracker is a bit hotter and the chili is extra hot. But really not that spicy. Finally got here and would say overall it's a 4.5. Staff were lovely and the food was delicious. We started with veggie Himalayan momos- the sauce was the perfect amount of heat. The White Yak is the best restaurant in the Roxborough area. It is consistently delicious with friendly service. I truly believe momos could achieve world peace. As a guide, I recommend starting with the momos. The combo plate is a great way to try different proteins. Next, the thentuk with chicken js a MUST. It's essentially chicken noodle soup, but the depth of flavor could warm the coldest of souls. I highly recommended the curry (with the turmeric steamed buns,duh) and the eggplant. We decided to go to White Yak as my wife has spent time in Tibet and knows Tibetan food and culture. It did not disappoint her, nor me. :) We had multiple dishes starting with a Li-ping (a mung been noodle dish) followed by potato Mo Mo (dumplings), Sha Palay (think stuffed beef patty), Tsamthuk (soup) and MoThuk (a beef Mom Mom soup). We also enjoys some Butter Tea. Everything was delicious. The service was prompt and the people were nice. It was worth a bit of a drive to enjoy some culturally unique food. I've been visiting White Yak since 2019 and still can't get enough of their food. I think my obsession with White Yak has grown since I started working remotely this year. I have been grabbing my lunch at least once a week, sometimes twice . At this point I've tried pretty much everything on the menu but the dishes I got last week was my favorite combo. I got their La Ping, which is the mung bean jelly noodles with house spicy sauce. Similar taste can be found in their noodle salad, which is also very tasty. Sha Palau patties were still crispy after I came home and their chili dipping sauce is full of flavors. Next, two of my go to dishes I always get are their crispy pork ribs. It looks simple but once you take a bite, you'll understand why I always get the ribs, and why I sometimes order two of these. Last but not least, if you like spicy chili sauce, definitely get the chili momo. Everything is made fresh, and you can tell from their chewy momo skin. Although I get a lot more takeouts from white yak now, the restaurant establishment has a great ambiance and even better, it's BYOB. The staff and owners are very nice and sometime you'll find the owner cooking in the kitchen, checking in on the customers, or working the cash register. So incredibly delicious. I wanted to try butter tea as it said it was traditional drink. Very much tasted like butter without too much extra sweet stuff so be prepared. Loved their momos, with a little thicker dough in comparison to Chinese versions and the filling is flavor-packed. Dishes come out quick, too! Excellent service from wait staff. If you're planning on coming Friday night or the weekend, there might possible be a wait. Comfortable atmosphere inside with wooden seating. My wife and I went here a few years ago shortly after they opened. Admittedly we have not yet been back, but would very much like to. When we did first visit, everything was great. I had an amazing butter tea, and my wife, who is the real dish-picker in the family, chose a bunch of regionally authentic plates that were engaging, tasty, well prepared, and satisfying. The service was pleasant and quick, and the seating area was simple but bustling, and not overcrowded despite our 10 minute wait by the door, and the subsequent 20 min wait after us as the night heated up. Servers were calm and collected, although they were hustling and doing their thing, making $$$ (good for them). That's a delicate balance but they struck it. Went here with a group of people. I purposely ordered things based on prior reviews. Some of my friends ordered things that probably could be ordered at other Asian restaurants within reason. But White Yak should continue offering because not everyone wants to be food adventurous. The cake had a good texture and they didn't make it too sweet- maybe used a bit of honey? On the menu, they do state that they charge $5 per bottle to open a wine bottle. I am not used to hearing of such a surcharge - is this a NYC or LA thing? Staff is friendly Would I come here again? If you are a vegetarian or vegan, White Yak will be your new favorite restaurant! -- Highlight: Many, if not all, veggie dishes are vegan too and the staff is very considerate of dietary restrictions or allergies. -- It was my first time dining at White Yak and I have to say I will soon be back! I honestly loved it so much, I ordered one to go! This was my favorite dish. Not too spicy, as I can't handle spice, and it was tasty! The fried vegan momo combo was crispy and flavorful. This was my friend's favorite dish! The shoko sisi was a little greasy for me, but honestly it was also a delicious dish. The carrot and potato were finely grated and crunchy, and not soggy. We used the la ping sauce on the shoko sisi to add a bit of spice! Lastly, the veg. chili chicken was uncanny in how much it resembled real beef. I actually stopped eating after the first few bites since I was scared it was actually beef I was eating! For me, this was a little unsettling, but for those trying to eat less meat, this would be a delicious substitute! The two entrees came with white rice and the portions were a good size for the two of us. The service was a little slow since it was SO packed, however the excellent food and friendly servers made up for this. The restaurant is clean, but loud when it is packed. I've driven past this place at least a 100 times and finally dropped in to check it out. Food was delicious. I've never had Tibetan food so this was a real treat to experience. We sampled a variety of dishes including the whole fish, Shatrak, Gha, and Momo. I'd recommend them all. The whole fish was the most unique dish I've had in a while. Flacky crust, rich sauce, and peppers sprinkled throughout. Service was excellent. Quick, efficient, and polite. Couldn't ask for more. BYOB - there is a $5 cork fee I'll be back to try more of this wonderful cuisine. read more

So, we've only had Tibetan food a couple of times, from one place where we used to live in Pittsburgh, and when my partner fund this place for my birthday she instantly wanted to go here. So, as a surprise to me, we did! Note: they only do reservations for groups of 6 or more. Ifyou've got 2-4 people, show up before 6:30. They're popular. But if it's after you probably won't wait too long. We got the Lentil soup, Pingsha entree, Phaktsee entree. Himalayan Momo with chicken and a cauliflower entree. Sharing ti all amongst the two of us. Everything was super flavorful and tasty, the momo and lentil soup drawing the most praise. Ask how spicy things are and the servers can guide you with the momos. The Himalayan ones are mildly spicy. Service was great and efficient, super personable, on a busy night for them.
