    BUTTER CHICKEN
    Megan C.

Curry Leaf should have waaaay more than 11 reviews given the quality and location?! I ordered for takeout yesterday and was blown away by the quality, price, and ease. You can order online for takeout and pay when you walk in, which I really appreciate. I was looking for some standard comfort food, and ordered the garlic naan, butter chicken, lamb saag, and samosa chaat. Every dish I would order again without hesitation. As other reviewers have mentioned, the samosa chaat is an absolute MUST order and a total steal at less than $6. The butter chicken is tender and indulgent as can be, and the saag dish could feed a family of 5. I loved the lamb but would also try this with chicken or the classic paneer in the future. Naan was great for takeout (folded in a parchment paper then foil) and I would order two if you're more than two people. Large portions of basmati rice are complimentary with entree. Curry Leaf is a BYO and the inside is pretty bare bones, so not a place you would go for ambiance - a few tables if you want to sit and enjoy your meal. The bulk of their business is clearly takeout, and the staff was so warm and helpful when I showed up to grab my order. This is dangerously close to my home and rehearsal spaces, so I know I'll be back time and time again for that delicious chaat and other great looking dishes on the menu. Add it to your rotation! Support this business!

My delicious meal at Curry Leaf.

After seeing all of the glowing reviews for Curry Leaf, and since it is literally around the corner from my apartment, I opted to give it a shot for a weekend takeout dinner. I am by no means whatsoever a connoisseur of Indian cuisine, so I wasn't really sure what to order. The menu is extensive, and a little intimidating for a person who has no idea what a bhaji or a choat is. I took one recommendation from Megan C.'s review, the Samosa Choat, and I chose the Chicken Malai Kabob for meat. The dishes come with a tin full of jasmine rice, cooked perfectly. To echo the many other reviews, the whole meal was a flavor explosion! The only thing I didn't like was the Onion Bhaji, which they threw in for free. They were some sort of fried pancake, which sounded like it could have been good, but it was overcooked. But the rest of the meal? Wow! The portions are great, too! I have literally passed Curry Leaf hundreds of times in my travels and hardly ever took much notice of the place. The front is very unassuming and the inside is simple and small, but clean. The gentleman who greeted me at the register was pleasant enough. I got there a little early, so I had to wait a few minutes, and as I was there, several Uber eats delivery guys and a couple of customers came in to pick up their orders. Definitely more popular than I imagined it to be! Obviously it's the food that brings people to Curry Leaf and I now know what a bhaji and a choat are. I will be definitely getting my Indian Cuisine 101 certificate soon! Highly recommended!

Amazing spot. Freshly prepared, delivered hot straight to the table. Every bite was stellar. Folks were very friendly and the restaurant was calm and welcoming. The spot is small and unassuming. Not fancy pants, but doesn't need to be. Amazing experience. Excellent food. Decent prices. What more can you ask for?!

The food from this little hole in the wall was amazing. Somosa chaat was delicious. It had texture and crunch and flavor that was perfect. The fried cauliflower had the perfect amount of heat and still had great snap The lamb biriyani was delicious as well. Please be careful that it does not specify that it has nuts unless you ask. The lamb had no gaminess, meaning it was marinated for a while. The porata was a little underwhelming but the naan was good. The chili chicken was great. Unfortunately, I tried getting the spicy version and regretted it. But that's on me. I definitely had the runs for the next 24 hours cause my stomach couldn't deal with the heat. Would definitely order from here again

tl;dr definitely the best Indian food I've ever had. Initial vibe: Stopped into Curry Leaf (2046 Sansom St) and was hit with that warm, comforting spice cloud the second I walked in. It's a Nepali & Indian spot right in Center City, low-key and welcoming. Ambiance: Cozy, casual, and clean--tables are close enough to feel lively but not cramped. Lighting's soft, music at a chill volume, and it's the kind of place where you can actually talk. Nothing fussy; just the good stuff. Food: the garlic naan...insane. Blistered edges, pillowy middle, tons of garlicky bite--outrageously good. (They list Garlic Naan on the menu, and it lives up to the hype.) Mains were deeply flavored without being heavy--sauces tasted freshly built, bright spices, and you can tell they care about balance. Prices are super reasonable for Center City: naan around $6-7 and classic curries ~ $19-20, and the portions are big--one entrée plus naan easily fed two of us with leftovers. Service: Friendly and fast without hovering. Water refills kept coming, food landed hot, and they checked spice prefs without me asking. Felt like they actually wanted me to love what I ordered. Value: For the quality + portion sizes + location, it's a steal. I'd come back just for the naan, but honestly the whole meal slapped. Bottom line: 5/5, def a new go-to. If you're anywhere near Sansom, run for that garlic naan and a curry. Best meal I've had in ages.

If you don't like "food porn", don't read on because this place gave me a full on food orgasm, more on that later. I'm in Philly, for a day trip, so not really looking for Indian, really wanted to do cheese steak, but I'm hungry and it's next door to a vintage shop I was just in. I look place up and the reviews are really high, so I decide to give it a chance, but not overeat so I can go to other places later. I order an appetizer and bread, and I'm glad I did! The lamb sekuwa was so damn tasty and succulent, and they asked how long I wanted it cooked (rare, well done, very spicy, mild, etc) the only complaint is it was a dry dish, but they gave me spices and there are plenty of dishes with sauce. It was wonderful walking through Philly as night fell with that taste in my mouth, but many a person pbly got the wrong idea with sounds of satisfaction and me muttering "oh my god, mmmm, sooo good, wonderful", and I can't blame them if they steered clear and gave me wide berth. The flaky bread (Lacha Paratha) was also interesting, but also a dry sort of thing, but I had the spices to help. Let me also add, how accommodating the host was, giving me a free bottled water, helping me to charge my phone etc. This place was small but comfy, private feeling and off the beaten path. I am not a local to Philly, so it's not like, "it was near and the best of its kind near me"-its way off and way worthwhile. I reallllly hope to find its kind back in NYC. I'm going to try a main dish next time, the options on Menu are very intriguing. One of the best food experiences of my life.

Tried this place for takeout dinner and it was absolutely fantastic! The flavors were delicious and they adjust based on your spice preference which was perfect...will be coming back and recommend it for great prices and flavorful Indian!

Human beings are funny that way. So for Father's Day, my wife booked a table for six at Mount Masala in Voorhees. This turned out to be an act of touching optimism. When we arrived on a Saturday night, only three other tables were occupied. We could have brought a small marching band and sat immediately. Still, the staff was warm, the room was pleasant, and we decided to order family style. Civilization occasionally gets things right. The sizzling chicken momo arrived first, hissing and steaming like a diva. Sadly, the spectacle outperformed the substance; it was essentially good food wearing a sequined jacket. The chicken tikka momo, however, was outstanding. They were tender dumplings smothered in a sweet, familiar tikka sauce that my boys attacked with an enthusiasm usually reserved for free money. My youngest ordered the chicken makai soup and delivered a concise, pro-level critique: "It's fine." My oldest enjoyed his tofu Manchurian, though his eyes kept wandering to better plates. The beef skinny noodles and chicken Hakku Bakku chowmein were massive and well-made, but they lacked personality. The chowmein tasted like a very good lo mein. Nothing wrong with that, just predictable. The undisputed star was the chicken choyla. It was smoky, spicy, and rich with mustard oil. If the other dishes were polite small talk, the choyla was the eccentric guest telling stories nobody had ever heard before. Everyone at the table kept reaching for it. As for the service, the staff was incredibly friendly but possessed a unique talent for vanishing. Despite the empty room, refilling water and securing extra napkins became a minor side-quest. But then the bill arrived: $120 for six people. These days, taking the family out can feel like financing a small yacht, so this felt like a genuine bargain. Mount Masala isn't perfect, but it's memorable. The choyla and the tikka momos gave me exactly what I've been hunting for: flavors that are unfamiliar, exciting, and well worth getting to know.

This is an intimate BYOB spot, and it was completely packed when we arrived. The atmosphere feels cozy and authentic -- the kind of place where you know care goes into both the food and the hospitality. We ordered the chickpeas, cauliflower, and a mango lassi. One thing we really appreciated: they asked us what spice level we preferred. My wife doesn't like spicy food, and they thoughtfully prepared everything mild for us without sacrificing flavor. The chickpeas were outstanding -- rich, well-seasoned, and deeply satisfying. The cauliflower wasn't quite to my personal taste, but it was well prepared. And the mango lassi? Absolutely amazing -- creamy, refreshing, and the perfect complement to the meal. Portions were generous, and the service was prompt and genuinely excellent throughout the evening. My wife, acting as both navigator and oracle, found Norbu after I asked for something within walking distance of our hotel. Four Himalayan restaurants, all within a short stroll, which felt statistically suspicious in the heart of Amish country. We chose Norbu because it had the best reviews and, more importantly, because it offered Nepalese and Bhutanese dishes, which none of us had ever tried. We are a family that tries to make it a point to say yes to the unknown. Finding it is part of the adventure. Norbu is tucked along North Christian Street, though calling it a street feels optimistic at best. It is more of a very committed alley. The restaurant sits inside an office building with a few brave parking spaces placed carefully on postage stamp sized lot out front. Had we been driving, I am certain we would have missed it and continued on, poorer for the experience. Fortunately, we were on foot and arrived intact. Inside, the place was alive at 7 PM. There were low tables with stools that suggested a more traditional way of dining, and a couple of unoccupied standard tables for those of us still learning. We took one of the latter and were seated quickly. We began with momo, a dish that seems like could quietly solve many of the world's problems if placed on the right tables. Soft, hand folded dumplings, steamed and served with a savory chutney. We ordered the "Mix It All" option, which gave us vegetable, beef, and chicken. Each had its own personality, its own quiet argument for why it should be your favorite. My older son ordered the Sweet N Sticky Tofu, which was the most familiar thing we ate all night. It tasted like a thoughtful conversation between General Tso and sesame tofu. Very good, very well executed, just less novel. I had the Pak Sha Datsi, the national dish of Bhutan, which I did not know until I read it on the menu and our server filled in the missing information with patience and enthusiasm. Norbu itself, we learned, is rooted in Himalayan traditions and a desire to share the food and culture of Nepal and Bhutan with a wider audience, which feels like a noble use of time. The dish arrived as a gently spiced stew with pork and a blend of aged and smoked cheeses. It was creamy, delicate, and somehow grew more interesting with every bite. It did not resemble anything I had eaten before, which is a rare and welcome thing as I grow ever older. My wife and younger son both ordered the Nepali Thali, a kind of edible symphony made up of curry, lentils, vegetables, chutneys, pickles, and a dessert pudding. My wife chose the fish curry, which was tender and lightly flavored. My son chose the chicken curry, which quietly became the star of the table. It had a familiar warmth, something like Indian curry, but with its own distinct voice. The accompanying mustard greens, curried potatoes, and a simple mix of green beans, corn, and carrots, were so flavorful that we found ourselves marveling at them like tourists at a natural wonder. Service was excellent. Our waitress guided us through the menu, made thoughtful suggestions, and shared a bit of the restaurant's story. By the end of the meal, we felt not just fed, but informed. Our only failure was not saving room for dessert. There was a chai flavored cashew cheesecake that sounded like it might change a person's outlook on life. We will have to return to test this theory. Norbu is the kind of place you hope to find and rarely do. It is hidden, a little hard to reach, and entirely worth the effort. Five stars, because sometimes you find something amazing and new, and that reminds you that the world is still full of good surprises.

The meat was tender and the tomato sauce had a range of spices that made it hard to say when! The chicken tandoori had nice flavors too, but the meat was a tad dry. The Paneer was good, but the star of the show was the Chicken Makhni. Throw some rice and mint chutney in with the chicken makhni and naan .... Happiness .... I would love to return to try a Biryani. The Gulab Jamun was a miss. It lacked the syrup flavor I'm used to. The pricing was around $33 per person for what we ordered. There were leftovers. I would recommend ordering ahead as the wait time was a bit long. Everyone was stuffed and happy that we tried New Delhi. I'd repeat more often if I lived in the area.
