So, I have gone to spot a while back when it used to be around Chestnut/Walnut street in Philly and I have always dined in. Its been years from the last time I've had food from this place, so I decided to see if they are still open and to my surprise they were open and have even relocated to much bigger and cleaner ambiance. Ordered 2 meals (2 tandoor chicken and chicken sheek kabab). I specifically informed them while ordering that the individual eating the sheek kabab is allergic to chickpeas (choley) which comes as part of the meal. The person taking my order informs me that he will pack it separately. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was told by the person giving my food that he made sure he packed the sheek kabab separately. I paid and headed back home (40 mins drive back to NJ). Lesson learned - I should have checked and will check moving forward when placing food orders if everything is correct. Of course, we got everything other than the sheek kabab. They made sure it was packed separately - so separate that they didn't even give/pack it with the remaining food order. We called back and spoke to Ansar (think that's what he said his name was) and Ansar said "sorry, we will credit you back when you come next time and get food." My wife asks him "how you going to remember this?" Ansar's response "oh we will we will, just mention and we will take care of it." SMH What businesses needs to start doing is, depending on situations, credit back to the account if a discrepancy has occurred. I was hoping with the new space, there would be improvements from the prior location. I hope these remarks below allow for the space for improvements because the food is good. Upon entering, no one acknowledged us to be seated. We had to ask two staff members where to sit. Once seated, the table was cleaned upon some delay with a rag that had a distinct smell that lingered throughout the meal. It took 55 minutes for our meal to arrive. I was able to see on their social media that they cooked the kabobs and karahi fresh. That being said, there should be communication with the guests if it will take that long. It could have been a coincidence but our food came out 5 minutes after we checked in to see what the status of our order is. If you also notice that your guests are not satisfied with the wait time, perhaps offer complimentary appetizers. We ordered the family platter but were not given any utensils too pick up the food with...we ended up using our hands as we already had a laundry list of things to ask for like napkins, an extra plate, more chutney (which we requested during our order). Resham kabob - basically the same kabob, the same salad, the same naan from the family platter. I could have constructed it myself at the fraction of the cost. The sandwich rolls do not come with fries or anything which I think isn't appropriate for the price they are charging. It was also confusing where to order as the place to order for Kabobeesh is in the back of the restaurant. The Karak Chai counter is being used too which is great but further confuses guests. The food seemed like it was coming out of different exits. There are no physical menus at this time, guests have to get up and read the kiosks. The menu online is also very confusing as there is overlap with the pizza location items. Always wanting the nashtaa but never knowing when the cut off time is for ordering it! Kabobish's new venue is a major improvement over its previous location. The new space is beautiful, with great artwork, a pleasant ambience, and good air conditioning. The food itself was excellent overall: * Papri chaat: 2/10 * Lahori chanay: 9/10 * Chapli kebab: 9/10 * Seekh kebab: 8/10 * Chicken tikka: 9/10 * Chai and biscuits: 9/10 Unfortunately, the customer service was only about 2.5/10 and needs a major revamp. No one welcomes you when you enter, asks how many people are in your party, or guides you to a table. There also seem to be two separate businesses or counters inside, which makes the whole setup confusing. The person taking our order seemed scattered and distracted, and some items were labeled incorrectly, making us think we had received the wrong food. The food is genuinely great, and the new venue has a lot of potential. Very unique place -- it feels like an old train coach-style diner, which gives it a cool and different vibe. It's a Pakistani restaurant, and the food was really good. The Mutton Karahi was amazing and full of flavor. The Lahore Chargha (whole chicken) was perfectly marinated and grilled -- juicy and delicious. Over 20 years of coming here, and I was so, so excited to visit the new location, checking every week to see if they had opened. Today I went in. But they have decided the move is a bid to climb into a new pricier tier. Prices went up about 20%, after climbing regularly post-covid, and that I am used to. But at the same time they reduced the portions by about a 3rd, foolishly using plastic containers that make it obvious to anyone who has ordered takeout from them before. This is not the place for the crowd that made them anymore, it's for wealthy Univ City students who may or may not show up. The quality of the cooking doesn't matter in this story any more; this act of economic aggression by a humble establishment that owes everything to its community is enough to end my long, supportive relationship with the place. read more

Once I heard that they were upgrading to a larger modern space, I was excited but also worried. Excited that the space would be able to host bigger parties. Worried that the food wouldn't be the same. Wellll...my friends.. unfortunately, my fears came true. Prices increased 25%-30%, portions got smaller, and the FLAVORS CHANGED. It doesn't taste authentic anymore. The meats texture isn't tender and moist like before. Food now is on the blander side, one dimensional (just salt). I miss the aromatics, the umami, the spice, the soul of the food !! I don't mind paying more, since they have to pay for the bougie location. But please don't mess with the recipes !! I Ordered Through Grubhub And If I Could Give Zero Stars I Would. First Things First Basically My Whole Meal Was Missing. My husband loves this place for some reason but I have never been a fan. Got the Haleem with a side of chickpeas, cauliflower and chicken biryani. The Haleem was flavorful but everything else was mediocre. Service is quick and they are quite generous with portions. Sometimes its a good day and bad day. But after my visit now I know why other people were so upset. They do not care about their customers at all. Its a family owned restaurant where only the owner and their family members are having a good time laughing and chatting while customers are waiting for basic service like being greeted and asked where to seat and give plate to eat food on. They served our food on a broken tray. They do not look prepared to serve any customer. Curry all spilled. My husband's food had a white plastic /hair looking thing in his food but we did not bother to tell them because they do not act like they would care. ambiance is not bad. The young manager ( without glasses) who stays on the counter was okay. He atleast tried to be nice to customers. Everyone else is a big joke. How do they plan to run a business when they treat their customers like this. If you plan to have a good time eating food do not go here. You will be nothing but dissapointed like me. Have been driving by Kabobeesh for years now and just today had the opportunity to try it out for takeout. I ordered the side of lamb curry and it was DELISH! Lamb wasn't tough and overcooked, spice was just right and the flavor was perfect. Kitchen - from what I could see at counter was really clean, as was the seating area. Staff was very friendly and I think she gave me way more than what I ordered as a first timer so thanks for that! They even had a poster of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who I listened to in college. That was a throwback. I'll have to bring my family/friends back another time. As for those. I went today and the place is filthy. I was very shocked because they have 4 stars on google. Bathroom smelled of straight up urine before you even touch the door, soap dispenser is dirty and so were the walls and door. Honestly all of the "white" walls were dingy and stained. I came by myself first time in Kabobeesh. Tried its lamb curry meal with two sides of veggies, lentils and chickpeas, rice and a naan. $15 for this platter. I do like the curry lamb (a lot of meat). I had also ordered lamb chops meal and lamb kabob meal to go for my family. They like it. I think the lamb chops were little bit burnt but taste good as well as lamb kabobs. Mango lassi was great! The box was open and i saw there were atleast 3 pieces in there. They took it back to the kitchen- for reasons i was not sure. When i opened the box at home, i discovered there was only one small leg. Had they let me know that most of the chicken had to be thrown out, i would've appreciated the honesty and simply changed my order. Instead they went ahead and charged me $12.50+tax for one leg of tandoori. The lamb curry was also severely lacking and had only 4 cubes of meat. Walking into Kabobeesh, I was totally out of my element. The restaurant was empty, except for two other customers, and I had no idea what to get. I had no idea what to expect. Instead what I got was some of best food around in University City. A Pakistani restaurant specializing in kebab, I ordered the lamb chop platter. Coming with two sides (I doubled up on chickpeas) and naan, you really get your money's worth. But most importantly, the food was amazing. The lamb chops were incredibly flavorful, tender, and soft. Although slightly salty, I was pleasantly surprised by the soft texture, melding of spices, and smokiness of the meat. SO YUMMY. The naan is so fresh; it came out piping hot, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The chickpeas were kind of cold and oily, but were very flavorful. I can't imagine how delicious it'd be fresh. The star of my meal though was the rice. I honestly could've eaten the basmati rice all by itself with satisfaction. So fluffy and spiced to perfection, I'm definitely come back just for this. Although the wait time may be long, Kabobeesh is well worth it!
