I was hoping with the new space, there would be improvements from the prior location. I hope these remarks below allow for the space for improvements because the food is good. Upon entering, no one acknowledged us to be seated. We had to ask two staff members where to sit. Once seated, the table was cleaned upon some delay with a rag that had a distinct smell that lingered throughout the meal. It took 55 minutes for our meal to arrive. I was able to see on their social media that they cooked the kabobs and karahi fresh. That being said, there should be communication with the guests if it will take that long. It could have been a coincidence but our food came out 5 minutes after we checked in to see what the status of our order is. If you also notice that your guests are not satisfied with the wait time, perhaps offer complimentary appetizers. We ordered the family platter but were not given any utensils too pick up the food with...we ended up using our hands as we already had a laundry list of things to ask for like napkins, an extra plate, more chutney (which we requested during our order). Resham kabob - basically the same kabob, the same salad, the same naan from the family platter. I could have constructed it myself at the fraction of the cost. The sandwich rolls do not come with fries or anything which I think isn't appropriate for the price they are charging. It was also confusing where to order as the place to order for Kabobeesh is in the back of the restaurant. The Karak Chai counter is being used too which is great but further confuses guests. The food seemed like it was coming out of different exits. There are no physical menus at this time, guests have to get up and read the kiosks. The menu online is also very confusing as there is overlap with the pizza location items. Always wanting the nashtaa but never knowing when the cut off time is for ordering it! I've been coming to Kabobeesh (the old location on Chestnut and 42nd st) for many years. Always loved the authentic food and very reasonable prices. Once I heard that they were upgrading to a larger modern space, I was excited but also worried. Excited that the space would be able to host bigger parties. Worried that the food wouldn't be the same. Wellll...my friends.. unfortunately, my fears came true. Prices increased 25%-30%, portions got smaller, and the FLAVORS CHANGED. It doesn't taste authentic anymore. The meats texture isn't tender and moist like before. Food now is on the blander side, one dimensional (just salt). I miss the aromatics, the umami, the spice, the soul of the food !! I don't mind paying more, since they have to pay for the bougie location. But please don't mess with the recipes !! They were PERFECT before. Sighhhhh.. end of an era. They're trying to appeal to rich people that don't really know or care for authentic food. Over 20 years of coming here, and I was so, so excited to visit the new location, checking every week to see if they had opened. Today I went in. But they have decided the move is a bid to climb into a new pricier tier. Prices went up about 20%, after climbing regularly post-covid, and that I am used to. But at the same time they reduced the portions by about a 3rd, foolishly using plastic containers that make it obvious to anyone who has ordered takeout from them before. This is not the place for the crowd that made them anymore, it's for wealthy Univ City students who may or may not show up. It included ground beef, chicken, lamb chop, beef kabob, and lamb kabob, along with a side of salad and four naan. The meats were cooked beautifully, and the seasoning was spot on. My husband loves this place for some reason but I have never been a fan. Got the Haleem with a side of chickpeas, cauliflower and chicken biryani. The Haleem was flavorful but everything else was mediocre. Service is quick and they are quite generous with portions. Sometimes its a good day and bad day. But after my visit now I know why other people were so upset. They do not care about their customers at all. Kabobeesh is legit so good. I got the chicken malai kabob and it was super tender, and the naan tasted fresh like it just came out of the oven. The lamb curry surprised me--tons of flavor and a big portion. The staff was really friendly too. They explained the menu and even let me try their chutney, which was amazing. Have been driving by Kabobeesh for years now and just today had the opportunity to try it out for takeout. I ordered the side of lamb curry and it was DELISH! Lamb wasn't tough and overcooked, spice was just right and the flavor was perfect. Kitchen - from what I could see at counter was really clean, as was the seating area. Staff was very friendly and I think she gave me way more than what I ordered as a first timer so thanks for that! They even had a poster of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who I listened to in college. That was a throwback. I'll have to bring my family/friends back another time. As for those. That commented about price, I would sat they are no on par with what the local food trucks on Penn/Drexel campus are charging for lesser quality. read more

I went today and the place is filthy. I was very shocked because they have 4 stars on google. Bathroom smelled of straight up urine before you even touch the door, soap dispenser is dirty and so were the walls and door. Honestly all of the "white" walls were dingy and stained. The woman behind the counter is so rude. Food looks sad and old. They have a big box fan tapped to the counter! Even the snack place was dirty. The walls had stains and marks and samosa was soggy! I came by myself first time in Kabobeesh. Tried its lamb curry meal with two sides of veggies, lentils and chickpeas, rice and a naan. $15 for this platter. I do like the curry lamb (a lot of meat). I had also ordered lamb chops meal and lamb kabob meal to go for my family. They like it. I think the lamb chops were little bit burnt but taste good as well as lamb kabobs. Mango lassi was great! When i opened the box at home, i discovered there was only one small leg. Had they let me know that most of the chicken had to be thrown out, i would've appreciated the honesty and simply changed my order. Instead they went ahead and charged me $12.50+tax for one leg of tandoori. The lamb curry was also severely lacking and had only 4 cubes of meat. Walking into Kabobeesh, I was totally out of my element. The restaurant was empty, except for two other customers, and I had no idea what to get. I had no idea what to expect. Instead what I got was some of best food around in University City. A Pakistani restaurant specializing in kebab, I ordered the lamb chop platter. Coming with two sides (I doubled up on chickpeas) and naan, you really get your money's worth. But most importantly, the food was amazing. The lamb chops were incredibly flavorful, tender, and soft. Although slightly salty, I was pleasantly surprised by the soft texture, melding of spices, and smokiness of the meat. SO YUMMY. The naan is so fresh; it came out piping hot, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The chickpeas were kind of cold and oily, but were very flavorful. I can't imagine how delicious it'd be fresh. The star of my meal though was the rice. I honestly could've eaten the basmati rice all by itself with satisfaction. So fluffy and spiced to perfection, I'm definitely come back just for this. Although the wait time may be long, Kabobeesh is well worth it! Very delicious food and friendly service. I had the nehari and as I never had it before I asked the woman there for recommendations. She was very helpful and gave good suggestions. I got takeout. It was all still very tasty when I got home. I also got a salmon roll which was large and flavorful and spicy. I saw they offered free iftar, I think this is a very nice service for Muslims during Ramadan. Horrible customer service. The only reason this place is even open is because there are no other Pakistani halal restaurants. They cashier/ server (fair gentleman with glasses) didn't even bother to write down our order, told us it would take 5 mins. Waited there for 20 min and nothing! We saw him treat another customer who was waiting for 45 min so rudely! We just walked out after that's. This place would fail the inspection test. Kitchen was so dirty. No one was wearing a mask but they had a huge sign telling ppl to wear a mask. Not enough ppl working there.
