We ordered four Marvin windows from Evanston lumber. The windows had multiple flaws from the factory and the installation went poorly. The windows were badly damaged and did not function properly. After 8 months of delayed responses and multiple visits to our home to remedy we are still left with badly damaged windows. A $300 check was offered to make up for everything which is laughable but I will accept it. This was three weeks ago and to my surprise the check has yet to arrive. Hard to image a worse experience. They have been in business for 100 years. I love this place. You pull in, they help you quickly, they will cut your wood and help you figure out the best way to cut it. This kind of service is non existent these days. Then they help you load it into your car, put a flag on if needed, It's so easy and quick. The products are high quality- never a problem. Their products are good quality. I spent several hundred dollars on a new back door and hardware. The price was comparable to another supplier i got a quote from. The problem is with some of the people who work there. Stay away from Frank Malave. He seems like a bully and/or has issues comprehending what respectful interactions look like. But he is not the only one - the people who answer inquiries on the phone can be downright rude. Its just really unnecessary and i hope not to do business w them again. read more

I am a Northshore GC and am occasionally forced to use Evanston Lumber due to their selection of moldings. That being said, their prices are ridiculously high and the way that they sell their product is mind boggling. When you go there, you have a loader pull materials and load your truck, they then give you a ticket to take to the cashier and pay. On countless occasions I have seen contractors get their materials, pocket the ticket and drive off without paying. No wonder their prices are what they are. Used them since 2010. Each year has been worse than previous. I am not sure why I continue to order stuff from them when they can't complete simple things in timely manner or get the orders correct. Customer service is the only thing they have to compete on and it is at 0. Quality and selection of lumber is only reason for 2 stars but there are other places that have products as well. read more
