I recently took two slabs of black walnut to skokie millwork to have them attached and finished as a dining table. The quality of the craftsmanship was good. The cost of the labor was higher than my original quote- it was more labor intensive than they had anticipated due to the live edge which, in their defense, I didn't reveal over the phone.
The main reason for my five star rating is because of a delivery guy named Craig. The shop agreed to deliver my table for an extra cost of $100. They told me this was somewhat unusual but they agreed to do it. Craig was very nice over the phone and agreed to meet me early in the morning for the delivery. He helped me carry the wood up two flights of stairs and maneuver a very challenging stairwell. He could not have been nicer about offering to help me. He was very careful with the table itself- wrapping it in protective cloth, and also with the walls along the stairwell, in the hallways, and inside my home.
Craig could easily have said no to helping me- but he didn't. He could have just left me with the wood, or quit when it got challenging up the stairs- be he didn't. At the end of the ordeal, we were both dripping in sweat and red in the face, but the table was resting safely in my home. This example of someone going above and beyond what is asked and expected of them just to help a customer earned the five star rating. And for this reason, I would recommend using skokie millworks for all your milling and finishing needs! read more
