Short rib
Joshua H.

Food is very well cooked and prepared. The oyster is great quality. I like the watermelon salad which is great for summer. The entree, short rib is very tasty. Finally the chocolate lava cake is so good paired with French vanilla ice cream. It takes some time to make it but worth the wait. The service is also wonderful!

Salmon special x2

This was my first time Evangeline and was impressed! They have considerable outdoor dining, but we opted for indoor as the interior is adorably cute & efficiently laid out. We both ordered the salmon special and were happy with our decisions. Salad was both fresh & artistic too! Service was excellent.

Came in for dinner and was immediately impressed with the sophisticated ambiance. You would have no idea of what to expect from the outside. Was seated in a cozy booth next to the window and was soon greeted by the food server, Wendy. Super sweet woman. I wanted to treat myself to a very nice dinner and was not going to rush this. I started with their Sazerac which was so smooth and warmed me up since it was a cold and dreary evening. Wendy didn't rush me...let me finish my cocktail before ordering. I decided on the bouillabaisse and a glass of Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc to go with it. The wine was brought to me first and was perfect as Rombauer usually is. I was able to enjoy my wine a bit before my main course came out. The bouillabaisse was incredible. Lots of fish (Salmon and a white fish) along with several clams, muscles crab legs and potatoes in the most awesome broth based liquid. Two wonderful pieces of garlic toasted sourdough served along with it. This stew was OUTSTANDING to say the least. After I devoured my dish, and the plates were cleared Wendy came over (again, not rushing me at all) to check and see if I had room for dessert and/or coffee. OF COURSE I did. I knew that if my meal was great then dessert had to be wonderful. I was not disappointed with my choice of housemade bread pudding and vanilla bean ice cream with caramel sauce and a cappuccino to finish a beautiful and delicious dinner.

The cocktails were delicious! The Mezcalita unbelievable, the pear salad delicious, and the hangar steak dinner with roasted Brussels, and mashed potato purée was Devine! I only wish this French restaurant had Escargot and French Onion soup! I say go you won't be let down!

Espresso Martinis

We dined at Evangeline mid-November and had a great experience. Food and service was excellent. Had the braised short ribs and steak. Of course they had an excellent wine selection but we brought our own bottle for a nominal corkage fee. Don't forget to try the espresso martinis!

Short ribs with polenta and vegatables

The portions are quite large, but there's a lack of attention to detail I would typically expect at this price point. - The chicory, prosciutto, and apple salad was light and refreshing--perfect for an early fall evening after wandering around Calistoga. - The rice with the chicken was extremely crunchy to the point I had to spit out a few grains. The seasoning was also inconsistent on the chicken between two pieces on the same plate. - The short rib was wonderfully tender, but lacked any real flavor. To make up for this, the polenta was extremely salty. - The vegetables on the plate seemed to be more consistently seasoned. - The tarte tatine was a nice desert, but I had a few bites that were really burnt. The water also tastes pretty bad. I know some restaurants like to up charge for bottled or sparkling water, but it is environmentally irresponsible not to offer filtered water in this day and age. When I initially declined to order a bottled water, the waiter emphasized that the water otherwise would be tap. I did not think it could be that bad, but it was, and I ultimately ordered a bottle of sparkling instead. (This choice was somewhat on me, admittedly.) Overall, this was a pleasant dining experience in a lovely outdoor courtyard. A few little tweaks could make this something quite special, but as it stood, there the food just wasn't quite what we'd hoped for.

We started at Sam's dinner club but the host had a conniption fit about me opening my bottle of wine!! 1 star for them, the guy was so embarrassing my quiet friends wanted to leave. So I got the last reservation at Evegaline's!! We got there and were escorted to an outside dining area with plenty of heat from the heat lamps. We ordered our dinner and the waiter came over and uncorked the magnum 1.5 Liter of Sean Thackrey's Sirius a silky smooth Petite Sirah from 2008. It was exquisite and super delicious!! Get a hold of me if interested in a Magnum of Sean Thackrey's wine! I had the Risotto done with saffron and Mike had the New York steak which we split our entrees! Then Emily had the Risotto with Shrimp and Robert had the Prime Rib special all were complimented. Then we had dessert Robert and Emily split a Panna Cotta and Mike and I had the chocolate mousse and everything was delicious and they only charged us for one corkage fee, our water was informative and appropriately friendly. We had a fantastic meal and I'll be back!!

Fantastic experience. Delicious food and beautiful patio and outdoor seating. We are from Europe and loved the French atmosphere. Absolutely can recommend this outstanding restaurant.

It was a completely wonderful experience, with a charming, pleasant ambiance and attentive, skilled service from Jaret G. We ordered escargots as an appetizer, followed by roasted rabbit and pappardelle pasta, paired with Etude Pinot Noir from Los Carneros (table 52). We really enjoyed our visit and certainly intend to return for another dinner. Our compliments to the chef and the entire Bistro Jeant team. With my warmest regards, Antonio Aguiar Davis-CA

Our server was Michael, and he has been there for quite some time. We had excellent service by him. We ordered a number of items. Our perennial favorites were the salade lyonnaise (because who doesn't love bacon and egg over greens) and their tomato soup over puff pastry. We also tried this time around their mussels (served over a big pot with broth), their Pike dumplings and a Chanterelle mushroom seasonal special. The restaurant was crowded. We can still hear each other but it's definitely not a quiet lunch spot. It's a nice change if you normally like to eat at Bouchon and want to try something slightly different.

I've been to Bouchon 3x but this most recent experience was not held up to the usual expectations and delivery that presumes its renowned reputation. Starting off with the positives -- I wanted my first escargot experience to be at Bouchon and I'm glad it was. Flaky puff pastry on top of parsley-garlic butter doused escargot were utterly divine. You can also never go wrong with their oysters; something about them just taste different here and in the best way. Steak frites is what my husband and I usually order as a staple entree, but this time, both of our steaks came out to be cooked rare instead of medium rare. We did appreciate how they gave us new ones that were then cooked as ordered, but they had also replaced the fries with new ones that were soggy. And who likes soggy fries? Especially since we paid a little extra for them to be truffle fries. To be fair, I did see that they lost their 1 Michelin star, and unfortunately this dinner somewhat could have alluded to why. Nonetheless, I still love this place and have hope that they can reclaim their high regard.

From valet parking to tea and latte towards the end of the meal, this experience was one of a kind! This place had all the charm of a beautiful restaurant nestled in a beautiful place in Europe. Napa's beauty shines through when it pours and the restaurant at Auberge du Soleil just adds more charm to it's beauty. I could not get enough of their bloody mary and kept it coming. Please note that only one drink is included in the brunch so anything extra or off the brunch menu would be changeable. Aurko opted for their grapefruit mimosa and loved it too! The housemade pastries, artisinal bread and muffins were included in the sunday brunch and on the house. We definitely asked them to fill up the basket the second time as the lemon curd and blueberry muffins were out of this world! To begin with, we both opted for the oysters. 6 oysters per person served with ginger mignonette- the perfect starter. We love fresh oysters and they were perfect. We also asked for an ala carte menu to order some more items and ordered 6 more oysters for the table. We also ordered some fried crispy calamari. It was plentiful and delicious. Very light batter and exceptional flavor! For the mains, my husband opted for the seared yellowfin tuna and I chose the sonoma chicken. Our entrees were amazing! The sides were delicious! We both chose housemade malekula island vanuatu chocolate creameux and it was FANTASTIC! The passionfruit puree and the muscovado ice cream brought all the flavors together in a medley of sweet symphony in my mouth! We both ordered tea and latte (not included in the brunch) and they were both delicious. Aurko ordered the barley tea and my latte was just perfect! My goodness this was a BEAUTIFUL experience! We had asked for a window seat but we were seated by the fireplace and it was just amazing! The view was better from sitting a little back. Front row seat and you first look at the spots on the glass and then the view tbh. This was an experience I would go for again. We were treated with love and kindness and we were given exceptionally good service. The head server was John or Jake. I'm sorry I don't remember his name but he was very very sweet. He's the one who first greeted the guests on every table and gave them menus. He was knowledgeable and amazing! I cannot wait to come back with my love and enjoy beautiful Napa from the eyes of the restaurant at Auberge du Soleil

Needless to say, we were over the moon to finally get a reservation! I foolishly looked at yelp reviews to see what folks were saying, and when I noticed a handful of low reviews I wrote it off as "you can't please everyone". Needless to say, looking at the low reviews now I agree with most of them. I'm sure that at one time this place was the pinnacle of culinary perfection, but the food seemed tortured and the ambience (as one reviewer put it) felt like I was sitting in a Marriott during a bar mitzvah. We were shoved into a small room upstairs with air-conditioning blowing nonstop and tables crammed next to each other. The music was hands-down the worst I have ever heard in a restaurant I think at one point they were playing "Twist and Shout". The one dish we had that was absolutely exceptional and redeemed a star was the oysters and pearls. Holy holy holy, one of the best things I've ever eaten. But everything else? It lacked flavor, depth, and in our case we had to ask for salt although I'm seeing a lot of people said that their food was over salted. Is anyone tasting? And then we had like six or seven desserts which also felt quite unnecessary. We got the kitchen tour, and left with a gift bag, but the whole thing felt very touristy and very much like we had gone to Disneyland and not one of the finest dining experiences available in the United States. A week before, we had gone to the farmers market and gotten some freshly smoked salmon, perfectly ripe strawberries and tomatoes, cultivated butter, and a freshly baked baguette and had a topless picnic in the backyard. I would take that over this experience every time.

I've always loved my meals and experiences here, but unfortunately, this visit was a bit underwhelming. I may have been a little selfishly expecting a smaller version of the French onion soup from their regular menu, but instead it was more of a simple bowl with a few croutons and slices of onion. It just didn't have the same impact I was hoping for. The steak looked beautiful when it arrived, but my medium rare steak was closer to medium well and ended up a bit dry. The dessert I selected was also a little disappointing, though perhaps I should have gone with the crème brûlée instead. I think this experience stood out because they normally hit everything perfectly. When a restaurant consistently sets such a high standard, even a slightly off night is noticeable. That said, I'll definitely continue coming back, especially for their prime rib nights, still my favorite!

BIRTHDAY DINNER AFTER TWO WINE TASTING…read more One week ago last Saturday night after the second winery my sister, her husband, and my relatives came here for dinner to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived our party was 30 minutes late. On a Saturday night I was concerned if we were going to get a table. Fortunately the receptionist was able to find a table for our party around 6.:00 PM, but he stated we would have to be out by 8:00 PM. I looked at the menu. Since I was going to a steakhouse in Las Vegas in late September I decided not to order steak. For the entree I decided between the branzino or beef short rib. While I am at Vegas I will be going to an Italian restaurant where they serve branzino. So I decided to go with the beef short rib at Bottega. I asked the server what pasta would go well with the beef short rib. He suggested the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren. I'll be honest I thought after seeing pictures of the spaghetti the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren would be bigger. The portion was smaller than I anticipated. If the portion is small the flavor better stand out. The spaghetti was al dente. What I liked about the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren was the cherry tomatoes as they were sweet not tarty as tomatoes can be. Even though the portion of the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren was small I wasn't full for my main course. Next was the main entrée the beef short rib. I really enjoyed this dish. The beef short rib was moist, but not too rich that I felt bloated. What also cuts the richness of the short beef rib is the polenta. Out of the two dishes I ordered the short beef rib was tastier. I was too full to order dessert even though some of the items were enticing. However I got a complimentary dessert for my birthday. Overall I fun enjoyable with my family for dinner at Bottega.

Aside from that, I would say the service was pretty standard. For my entrée, I ordered the braised short ribs and substituted the polenta for potatoes, and they were absolutely delicious. The short ribs were incredibly tender and easily fell off the bone. The potatoes were a great substitution and paired really well with the dish. This was definitely the highlight of the meal for me. At the end of dinner, they surprised me with a complimentary birthday plate with an assortment of small desserts and fresh berries, a candle, and "Buon Compleanno" written in chocolate. It was beautifully presented and a really thoughtful touch that made celebrating my birthday there feel a little more special. Overall, it was a nice birthday dinner. Nothing was particularly out of the ordinary, but I really enjoyed the romantic atmosphere, my short ribs were delicious, and I appreciated the birthday dessert plate at the end. Our first visit was for the Dining Journey, and it was an incredible introduction to Chef Douglas Keane's vision. One of my favorite moments was seeing my wife get to sample ramps, an ingredient featured in one of the dishes. These personal touches made the experience feel interactive and special. The food and wine pairing were excellent, with each wine thoughtfully selected to complement its dish. We later moved to the main dining room to enjoy the remaining courses, including their seasonal house shokupan with miso butter. On a separate visit, we returned for the more casual Bubbles Lounge dinner. The four-course menu and champagne made for another wonderful evening, and the hospitality remained just as warm and attentive as during our Dining Journey. We also had the pleasure of attending a Cyrus pop-up bake sale. We picked up one of each baked good and enjoyed them on the patio.
