I found the vegetable to rice ratio to be quite off though, but after talking with our server she was able to get us some vegetables on the side to add which helped a lot. Also ordered the baked Alaska and it was alright. Again not necessarily bad but also not anything super amazing either. It's a beautiful interior and the servers are very attentive and kind. This seems like a newly opened place. They seem to have vineyards - but we had finished our wine tasting and wanted some food. It has a large ceiling dining area that is beautiful. When we went, there weren't too many people there for lunch. The waiters were attentive and polite. The focaccia bread with rosemary was very fresh - seemed a little too fresh oily - but I am sure they will fix that aspect. I would go back and try other dishes - we weren't too hungry so had a tartine and some soup. It was very tasty. We started off with wine & the butternut squash soup; it was creamy, silky texture a tad coconut forward yet overall scrumptious. We shared their autumn salad - it was tasty, loved the dressing, unique flavors for a salad. The mains were: wild caught salmon & the halibut; the halibut was stellar! Hands down a great tasting dish, I would never think of the pairing the sauce they had with the halibut, bravo . Our server, Dennis insisted it was one of the best items on the menu & he was right. And since it was a birthday, bring on the desserts: Apple dumpling with vanilla ice cream & lemon cheese cake. The lemon cheese cake was light, fluffy, well done. Soup of the day to start (fava bean and andouille), spring salad with herb salsa (must get), then the wife and I split a burger with waffle fries and the shrimp and grits with bacon gravy. Eight North was recommended as one of the new restaurants in town The food was good, our party had the cheeseburger, shrimp and grits and chicken pot pie. No complaints. The wine selection by the glass was good but the reason for the 3 stars is the wine pours. They were ridiculously light, especially for the price. If I'm paying $22 for a glass of cab, I expect a full pour, not some measured light pour. Especially in wine country! I wouldn't go back to this restaurant for that reason alone. read more

We went twice for lunch, and had the green goddess-y entree salad,burger, barbecued shrimp poboy, and local beer. Friendly service, clean, airy space. In my short two-night visit to Calistoga, I visited Eight North three times--twice for social hour and cocktails, and once for dinner, which is by far the best offering in town. Each menu item is carefully crafted and flawlessly executed, while each bite explodes with nuanced flavor and texture. The Brussels sprout appetizer was especially whimsical; I appreciated the Asian twist of fish sauce, crispy rice and red chilis. The bacon-wrapped pork loin was served over a bed of kimchi fried rice dispersed with tangy shiitake mushrooms. The chicken entree, a breaded breast drenched in a creamy Meyer lemon emulsion, was unparalleled--the most tender chicken breast I've ever had! Dessert--I bitterly regret that I couldn't order them all. What I did experience was the most sublime milk chocolate creme brulee, with a toasted marshmallow crust giving way to a decadent but impeccably balanced custard. This exquisite dining experience is only complemented by a beautiful dining room with plush furniture, ornate dark wood trim, and a romantic fireplace. I had the mussels and a side of duck fat potatoes. I have never had mussels this large and they melted in my mouth. The broth was out of this world. My husband had the root vegetable pot pie and he was very pleased. Creative cocktail menu. Gotta love a cocktail called "juice box hero". Nice wine selections (no surprise there). Dessert for me was lemon cheesecake, which was outstanding. I believe the crust was a combo of brown sugar, graham cracker and butter. Whatever the case, it was phenomenal. Service! Stopped in with my wife to have a quick cocktail and appetizers on Valentine's Day. The espresso martini's were excellent and ribs were perfect. But better yet was the service. Devyn was on point!! Very personable and fun to talk and share a few laughs with. We actually stayed longer than anticipated because we were having such a good time. We had a wonderful Friday night dinner at Eight North. The restaraunt is spacious and warm. Our waiter Dennis provided excellent service, very attentive and friendly without being overbearing. He took the time to introduce us to the menu and clearly descrive dishes including recommendations. We started with a couple of glasses of white wine, the calamari conservas and an order of the ranch spiced waffle fries. The conservas were presented with delicious home made crackers and a pickled vegtable mix that really brightened them up. The ranch fries were perfectly crisp and spiced. For mains we ordered the petrale sole and the bacon wrapped pork loin. The sole was cooked beautifly and perfectly accompanied by the burre blanc. Just a perfect preparation of a classic dish. The pork loin was over spicy kimchi fried rice and the heat was perfect. The shitakes had a pickled flavor which balanced the dish and cut through the spice. Eight North clearly puts a ton of care into their menu construction, their preparations and their service. We were really happy with our experience and will be back. read more

We did a wine tasting in town earlier and each wine pour was a splash less than is considered a "full pour" here. The food item I ordered was prepared completely different than what was advertised on the menu. As a Napa Valley resident I won't be returning and won't be recommending. The texture was sublime, silky not heavy or overcooked, delicious chocolate flavor, and beautifully caramelized top. The best food I've had in Calistoga. I would make it 5 stars if not for the prices. $45 chicken pot pie, $50 pork chop, $60 halibut. Seriously?? Unfortunately they're too expensive for me to try them to see if they're worth the price. If they're as good as the flank steak and brûlée maybe they are worth the price to those who can afford it. Attractive ambiance, good service from a friendly staff, good quality food but skimpy portions for the money. I ordered the petrale sole and what came was a small portion of fish served along with a spoonful of whipped potatoes and a sprinkling of greens. For $42 I expected a full meal, not an appetizer plate. My wife and I spent $133 including tip for dinner (without wine or dessert, just a shared salad and two entrees), and I left the restaurant hungry. I expect a lot more for that price. When we asked to have it corrected, the response was oddly rude: "Do you want it cooked more or less?" We wanted medium, not raw.
