Was invited to a friends birthday on April 10 at this tasting room. This date was given to me back in March and I drove over an hour to this tasting room. I was the first to arrive - no open sign on, and David was at the desk and immediately told me they were closed. I told him that my friend had scheduled a tasting at this tasting room for 3 PM, and he said there were no tastings scheduled for that Sunday and was very short about it like he did not have the time to even check with anyone. I reconfirmed with my friend that I had the correct time and date after he turned me away. We were able to finally get David to contact Stephan who confirmed that this was in fact scheduled. There was no food offered like the website said - we had to ask if there was even a cheese plate which when we were given the cheese plate it was not appealing at all or proportioned well. Stephan was really gracious and took over the tasting, he was not even there that day originally he came after doing outreach to try to smooth things out. He was the only good thing about the service. Also for a wine tasting room with no tastings scheduled according to them when we arrived, the facility was not clean at all. The bathrooms were messy, no soap, no seat protectors and there was paper all over the floor. The drive and time I took to be there and the amount I was charged for a tasting of mediocre wines does not feel worth how we were treated, the customer service was unacceptable. They made hundreds of dollars off of our tasting and we were not even given the full tasting we all paid for and if it wasn't for Stephan we all would have left. Do not waste your time coming here - your $60 tasting + tip would be better spent somewhere that actually values their customers and their quality of wine. read more

We will definitely be coming back to Lawer Estates. Christian served our drinks and took the time to answer all of our questions about the wines as well as Napa Valley in general. He was so informative, and went above and beyond by sharing maps of Napa and where the Lawer vineyards were located, plus he showed us a soil map and explained about the different soil types. There's not much I can personally say that would do their wines justice. The winemakers clearly have the knowledge and a passion for what they do, the wines stand out and speak for themselves. What really made our visit special was the care and attention provided us by their Director of Hospitality, Cante, who made us feel comfortable and treated us to one of the most memorable tastings we've ever had. We learned a lot about wine and he was able to teach us in a way that didn't make us feel like we knew nothing or didn't belong. We had a lot of laughs, a lot of great wine, and we can't wait to visit again. We had a lovely afternoon at the Lawer tasting room! The staff are friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, and best of all (in my opinion) unpretentious and make wine accessible. It was a hot afternoon, so we enjoyed most of our tasting in the air conditioned tasting room and wrapped with our dessert wine on the patio overlooking the river. They are also very respectful of covid social distancing and cleanliness so you can rest assured during your visit. read more

My daughter and I were staying in Calistoga last week and happened to go in Lawer Estates Winery for a glass and to sit outside on their beautiful patio. Christian was such a pleasure to talk to and told us about the Wine Crawl Pass. That was a must-do when in Calistoga! We went in wineries we would never have visited. My husband and I stopped in on a random trip to Calistoga. The little outdoor river view is so pretty. The Chardonnay is a MUST l, so beautiful and smooth! I love the french style Chardonnay and it seems so hard to find. Chante, our host, was amazing. We loved hearing all of the stories of the wine. Overall such a great time. This was the worst "tasting" I have ever experienced. Hardly a tasting, barely any snacks and NO SOAP OR PAPER TOWELS IN THE BATHROOM. That right there is the sign of bad ownership and enough to make me never return. We had a party of 12 that was of no interest to this Dave person, who left us sitting with empty glasses and no snacks. This is hardly an "estate" more like an empty room with an uninterested host. With all of the choices in Calistoga and Sonoma county, I would never give this dump another penny. Too bad I cant return my $60 wine and get a refund for the $60 tasting. read more

We didn't have a reservation and called up late in the afternoon and Cante said that we should just come on in. We showed up and Cante took care of us by sitting us at a table in the back and educated us on the Lawer Estate wines which I might add are fantastic. Today, was my 1st time here at the shop. I arrived w/o reservation hoping to jump start my wine tasting being that this was also my 1st time here in Calistoga. Despite not having a reservation, the staff member who was working (and i didn't get his name) said that he had a table for us and we just needed to wait for a few minutes, which i was happy to wait for since i didn't have a reservation. This was the only highlight of this experience. Unfortunately, the staff member never returned to check in with us, appeared to ignore us as well as another customer who arrived later and was asking for some assistance. However, when a caucasian couple arrived after us w/o reservation, he apparently had time to assist them and seated them right before us. By this time, we had been waiting 20 minutes. I found this utterly rude and disrespectful. I also found the staff member's behavior discriminatory towards myself a woman of Hispanic background and towards the other customer who he never greeted, ignored and happened to be of Asian descent. read more

Planned my birthday party here, David the guy at the front counter tried to turn us away and said there was nothing on the books. The wine director Stephan told David we were coming at least a week in advance if not more! David did turn away a friend of mine but I insisted. He said he couldn't do the tasting when no one else was even there. We should have just left but I was in a panic I planned this party a month ago. The prices online are not the same as when you walk in. There no pizza, or champagne tasting as the website states. It's not an estate, it's a tiny room. There wasn't even any soap in the bathroom. David did not serve us and waited for Stephan to come back from out reach and had Stephan do the whole party alone. Stephan did his best and was great but he's only one person. Cheese plates are tiny. We were not served the whole tasting because my friend brought a bottle and they poured from her bottle and skipped the pinto which I didn't realize until we left. The champagne is trash. Worse experience I've ever had at a winery. Only liked 1 of the wines do yourself a favor and don't go here! read more

This winery was a huge disappointment! My husband and I decided to go to Calistoga for my birthday weekend a couple weeks ago, we had never been and it was recommended by another winery to buy the Wineries in the Winter passport which would allow us to taste 3-5 tastes at 16 different wineries. Lawer Estates was one of those wineries, we arrived at 1 pm and were told by the younger gentleman working the front desk, "We are kind of busy right now, come back after 5:30 pm and we can accommodate you, we are open until 7:00." When we returned at 5:30, we were told by the middle aged gentleman working the counter, "sorry, we don't do the free tastings for the passport after 3 pm". #1 - its not free if we paid for the passport which stated we could get 3 tastings at this winery, why advertise in the passport if you will not honor it? #2 - We were told to come back after 5:30 by another employee knowing that we had the passport for tastings, so it appears that this winery only values customers who pay the overly priced tasting fee to try their wines. All of the other wineries that we went to that were in the Passport were extremely accommodating and nice. Obviously this winery does not value new customers! read more

I highly recommend Lawer Estates for anyone traveling to Calistoga for a tasting experience. Their 2014 Syrah is one of the better Syrah's I have tried here in the valley. Cante gave us our tasting and his expert knowledge helped us learn more about the owner and how production is accomplished at their vineyards. Another plus is their affordable tasting fee- only $25 per person! I will be coming back. read more

This is an amazing place. My wife and I have visited several times and have found the wines and the staff amazing. Firstly, these wines are an incredible deal for the Napa Valley (you get so much bang for your buck) and it's obvious the wines are all well-made, varietally correct and unpretentious. Beautifully, dense, rich fruit prevails on the red wines - the oak and tannins are not the stars - and their white wines are appropriately nuanced and have just the right amount of acidity. You can tell the winemakers Cary and Kelly know what they're doing. Secondly, the hospitality director Cante was one of the nicest tasting room people we have ever met. He is very knowledgable about the Lawer wines, winemaking process and Napa Valley history in general. We always learn something every time we stop by. My wife and her family are from Oaxaca and Cante always makes us feel welcomed and taken care of. This place is how tasting rooms should be: Down-to-Earth, informative and serving great wine at a reasonable price. You need to make a reservation (like pretty much every other tasting room in these times) but no doubt you will have a great time and walk out with some killer wines!!! read more
