Their Vegetarian Cabbage Rolls are absolutely delicious and hearty!
    Sel Z.

European Delight, located in the lower level of St. Lawrence Market, is one of my favourite vendors to get grab-and-go items whenever I'm in the area. They offer a wide selection of Polish and Eastern European classics such as pierogies (what they're famously known for), latkes (they offer both classic plain latkes, and with toppings such as smoked salmon, cream cheese / sour cream, dill, mushrooms, etc.), blintzes (they have both savoury and sweet kinds), cabbage rolls (both with beef and vegetarian version), Eastern European-style burgers, various dips, and more. My favourites are their spinach & mushroom blintz, potato & cheddar cheese pierogies, grilled vegetables, whole eggplant with various toppings, and portobello mushroom cap topped with lentils, beans, and vegetables. They sell pierogies in different formats: frozen (in big bags / batches), cooked but chilled (by the dozen), and cooked, heated, and ready to eat (with onions and sour cream if you'd like). I find the "cooked, heated, and ready to eat" version to be a bit too oily for my liking, so I usually get the "cooked but chilled" version (you get more of it too) and just heat the pierogies up at home.

This shop is absolutely fantastic. I had lunch here on a recent trip to the St. Lawrence Market. It was nice to be able to eat authentic European cuisine. The shop owners are very friendly. I had the spinach and mushroom blintz, which was excellent and served with cream cheese on top. I also tried the potato latke served with salmon, fresh dill, and cream cheese on top, which was also delicious. The last item I tried was the vegetable samosa. The curry in there was perfect and the heat was brought, but in good quantity. All of the above mentioned, plus a bottle of Perrier was $10 and some change. There were so many items for sale that looked delicious, so do stop here and look for yourself. There were also some great looking pierogis and soups.

Everything looked delicious and they had a ton of variety. There are sweet/savoury/meat/vegetarian options, so there's something for everyone. If you're not looking for something to eat right then and there, you can get frozen food. Everything is made fresh though, so even if you're taking them home, they're good in the fridge for about 3/4 days. We bought cabbage rolls and sauerkraut. The cabbage rolls come with extra sauce on the side which is very yummy!

European Delight is located in the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto. European Delight is advertised as an Ukrainian and Polish cafe, but they really offer some other products that aren't normally consumed by those cultures (e.g. schnitzel, borek). Every time I visit the St. Lawrence Market, I stop here because their pierogis are absolutely fantastic. They offer a large variety of both sweet and savoury pierogis...everything from strawberry to veal. Just be aware that if you are buying them fresh, then you can only buy them in groups of 6. I highly suggest trying as many as possible. If there are two of you, then you can easily eat 12. You can buy them frozen as well and take them home. Also, make sure that you ask for sour cream on top! The store offers takeout of both fresh, frozen, and canned products. They have a large variety of food, such as cabbage rolls, blintz, stuffed mushrooms, and stuffed eggplant. This past visit we had the stuffed mushroom, stuffed eggplant, and veal pierogis. The stuffed eggplant was phenomenal. The eggplant was super soft and filled with dill, cheese, and tomatoes. The pierogis were very juicy and filling. I highly recommend both. Overall, this is a place to try in the market! I highly recommend their pierogis and exploring other items that they offer.

Can't write review. Too full! Being of Ashkenazi Jewish descent I know a thing or two about the hearty peasant foods of Eastern Europe. This place, hidden in the middle of the basement at St Lawrence market, its easy to walk by. If you happen in you will see every hard working golden age ladies Manning the microwaves and dishing out plate after plate of perogoies, cabbage rolls and other dishes of the region. Its no frills service and the microwave may heat some things unevenly but who cares! 6 perogoies are like 2.75. A cabbage roll is $4. I paid with a $10 @nd got change back. This food sticks to your ribs and you won't go away hungry.

I stopped by for some perogies the other day. They were amazing! I got 6 potato cheddar and 6 veal perogies. It's St. Lawrence Market after all, so it's not fancy by any means. Initially, I was a bit disheartened that they were served up on styrofoam plates and reheated in the microwave. However, that quickly changed after taking my first bite into the perogie. The shell was the perfect texture, not too soft or hard. Both the veal and the potato cheddar stuffing were surprisingly flavorful. I'm by no means a perogi expert, but these are definitely some of the best perogies i've ever had. I preferred the veal perogies. Initially I bought these to share, but by the time I found my compatriots, they were already half gone. It's quite the value at 6 for $2.50 and 12 for $4. Anyone passing by The St. Lawrence Market should check out European Delight. I'll definitely be back to try their other eats.

Cabbage roll: beef and rice. Heated up!

This place is almost like a secret gem in the St. Lawrence Market. I came by here for lunch one cold January day and it was quiet, but I knew they were good. I ordered a cabbage roll that had beef and rice inside for about $5 - what a steal! It was pretty tasty, but not 4-star quality. The rice and beef was very nicely spiced but the cabbage was a bit tough to eat with the plastic utensils. I think next time I'd try the perogies instead. I'd give them another go. There's lots to pick from in terms of selection. Tip: they are located downstairs/lower level. If you see the Italian place (meat sandwiches), walk right. If you see a Greek restaurant, you've accidentally walked left. Tip 2: Cash and VISA accepted. Tip 3: Everything in their counter can be heated up, just ask.

We came across European Delight while walking through the St. Lawrence Market. My wife is daughter of Russian parents and was raised eating many of the foods they make from scratch. She was very excited and ordered several items, we ended up ordering more perogies as they were so good my family resembled a piranhas feeding frenzy.

If this chicken were any drier it would be powder.

Awful. It's just AWFUL! I can't go LOWER than a 1 Star, and that is too much. The food looks good until they put it in the MICROWAVE. I had a chicken schnitzel and couldn't eat the piece. The chicken inside the crust was DRY, DRY and DRY. It was obviously overcooked the 1st time and using a microwave to warm it didn't help. We ordered 12 perogie, 6 potato & cheese and 6 veal. They heated them all together and then dumped them in a container together. I don't eat veal (those were for hubs) so I had to separate them. The potato & cheese were orange inside. I don't mean peach or light orange, I mean WTH did they put in his to make it turn orange, orange. Hubs had the beef & rice cabbage roll and was very disappointed. We know authentic and Americanized Eastern European dishes and these are just BAD! The flimsy plastic utensils didn't help either. WHAT*A*WASTE.

    $2.75+tax for 6 Pierogi (cheese & potato) or $4.25 for 12

I found an Eastern European food stand located in the basement of St. Lawrence Market, close to the public washrooms. It's probably a tourist trap but until I find another this is my go to place for now. They serve a wide selection of comfort dishes at reasonable prices from pierogi, knish, latke, cabbage rolls & blintzes just to name a few. I sampled their pierogi, potato & cheese, and they were filling for a light breakfast. It's served with a dollop of sour cream if you want but at home I usually put ranch dressing on it. I know I'm weird. They also make veal pierogi or pelmeni as they're known in Russia and dessert pierogi, which I may sample later today maybe. Definitely a place to check out whenever you're visiting the Market.

6 cheeese and potato perogies with sour cream on top. So shiny!!!
    Cin C.

Looking for a savory snack brought us to this stall out of the many offerings in the building. For $2.90 after tax, you get 6 cheese and potato or veal perogies heated up with a dollop of sour cream on top. I opted for the cheese and potato for the maximum comfort-food factor. The little dough pouches of carbs and cheddar had obviously been previously fried with onions, each shiny with oil and they slipped around the styrofoam container freely. I liked that you can actually taste the cheese in the filling and the smoothly mashed potato is great next to the slightly chewy texture of the dough. Definitely will keep this place in mind and try out their other offerings the next time. Great service also, really patient in explaining what choices there are for you to pick from. Quick, greasy and cheap savory comfort food!!

I haven't had perogies this good since my Polish ex-boyfriend 's mother used to take over my kitchen for an entire weekend to make them from scratch. (His name was Bartek, big muscles, small brain) I have been eating at European Delight for the past three Saturdays spent at the St Lawrence Market. (Perogies ARE a breakfast food, damn you!) They have so many things here and everything I've tried is delicious. The cabbage rolls are $3.75 and are giant. They have both meat and vegetarian varieties. One roll fills a whole plate. You can take it home or they will heat it up, add some tasty tomato sauce and you can eat it right there. The perogies cost $2.50 for 6 or $4 for a dozen, you can also buy bags of 50 frozen for $10. European Delight also has potato latkes, apple dumplings, spinach and cheese dumplings, schnitzels and all sorts of fresh made salads you can purchase by weight. The service is always really friendly. I'm surprised this booth is not as busy as some others in the market, because it's AMAZING.

    Peter K.

The most amazing perogies that I have ever put in my mouth. This Ukrainian couple serves a variety of perogies and even offers a value of 50 frozen perogies for $10. Additionally, they serve knish, cabbage rolls, latkes, lasagna and so much more. Six hot, perfectly prepared perogies with sour cream for $2.50. They were so good I went back for seconds and then thirds. This is truly a hidden treasure in Toronto and if you have not been then you are missing out.

The owner (I believe she is the owner) greeted us and told us we could sit anywhere. She brought us water and menus. My sister and I ordered 2 cabbage rolls, Potato and Cheese Pierogies, Meat Pierogies with bacon and onions to share. For my son, we tried ordering the schnitzel sandwich, but was told that was unavailable. My son doesn't eat mashed potatoes so I asked if I could just order him a schnitzel and she said yes. The food came out in about 15 minutes. The cabbage rolls were fantastic, the perfect amount of acidity in the sauce. I really don't like tomatoes or cabbage, but there is something special about the cabbage rolls. I ate very bit of mine. The pierogies were wonderful. I usually prefer just potato and cheese, but honestly between those and the meat, I couldn't decide which I liked more. Both were flavorful especially with the sauteed onions and sour cream. My son's schnitzel was huge! He could only eat about half of it and when my son asked for ketchup (much to my dismay) the owner was very nice about it and commented that's the way her daughter likes it too. Honestly the food was absolutely wonderful and the service was great. It was very similar to what I had in Poland. If this restaurant was closer to my home I would visit often. We had no issue with parking. We were able to get a spot on the street right in front of the restaurant. Parking was also not too expensive since you aren't in the downtown area. If you are in the area and want a wonderful meal, be sure to visit.

The pierogi were the highlight for me. They're flatter than the dumplings I'm used to, and I was surprised by how potato-forward they were. We tried the potato and cheese as well as the potato and onion, and personally I thought the potato and onion had more flavor. We also tried the sausage and mushroom version, which was good too, but the potato fillings were definitely the more memorable ones. I would not recommend ordering 6 or 12 pierogi for one person unless you are very hungry, because it is a lot and you only get one flavor. The better choice is probably one of the larger combo plates, which gives you 3 pierogi plus a few classic sides and mains. The sampler-style plate was actually a great way to try more of the menu. It came with pierogi, hunter's stew, schnitzel, pickled vegetables, and condiments, and it was more than enough for one person. The hunter's stew had a strong sauerkraut flavor, and the schnitzel was thin, crispy, not too greasy, and very satisfying. We also ordered the cabbage rolls, which came in a big portion with tomato sauce. They were decent, but for me the filling was a little mild and the portion felt too large. We tried a Polish beer as well, though honestly I could not tell much of a difference. Overall, this is a family-run restaurant with a simple, homey atmosphere rather than a fancy one, but it is clearly popular for a reason. The food is hearty, comforting, and worth trying, especially if you want a casual place to explore Polish cuisine.

Street parking was reasonably easy to find. We were seated way back in the restaurant and the seating was a little uncomfortable as our table was set up right next to the bar (but way too close to the bar, because our table was long) and other patrons had to constantly shimmy through a small gap between our table and the bar to get to the washrooms downstairs. Not great. We ordered a family style meals to share (combo for 2 and a combo for 4) and the amount of food that came out was probably enough to feed 10 very hungry adults. Definitely do not indulge on the bread basket that comes before the meal, because you will need to save room for the main event. The massive platters came loaded with pierogies, 2 different types of cabbage rolls (my favs!), schnitzels, and various condiments (?) of cooked beets, carrots, cabbages...etc. We were first served 1 different soups; white borscht and beet soup and both were tasty. The meat dumplings in the beet soup balanced out the sweetness of the broth and it worked well. I personally preferred the white borscht which was perfectly sour and a slightly over-powering sausage taste. The refreshing cucumber salad with dill in sour cream was a great accompaniment to somewhat heavy tasting meal. The hunters stew was a hearty bowl of tender morsels of meat, potato dumplings in a well balanced tomato based sauce. Although most of our food was great, we found the cabbage rolls (the traditional tomato version) and the schnitzels too dry. And along with the issue of having to deal with people constantly brushing by, I am taking away 2 stars. I may revisit Cafe Polonez if I'm back in the area, but not in a huge rush either.

Mushrooms and cabbage pierogi and cheese and potatoes pierogi - Overall these were good but we've had better. Hubs only had the mushrooms and cabbage pierogi and he said that he enjoyed this better than the entrees. Somehow, he didn't get to try the cheese and potatoes pierogi. Schnitzel with green beans and potato pancake- Daughter liked the schnitzel and thought that the sides were ok. Hubs thought the schnitzel and the potato pancakes could've used a little more crisp and that it should be fried a little bit longer. Taste wise was ok. The string beans were overcooked and reminded him of school cafeteria. He always wanted to try it but felt disappointed. The dough is handmade, thick and chewy, which is my preference. We tried all four savory pierogies and the meat pierogi was my favorite, and potato/cheese was my second favorite. The dumpling skins absorbed the flavor of the fillings and were very savory, not just floury. On the other hand, the dessert blueberry dumpling skins seemed a little thinner and did not absorb any filling flavor, so were a little plain. You should put them whole into your mouth or else you will lose a lot of the berry juice! My partner really liked the tomato sauce on the cabbage rolls and said those rolls were some of the best he's had. I thought they were tender and standard, good. The mustard was slightly sweet and I liked it a lot. The sour cream was thick and tangy, perfect for the pierogies. The sauerkraut was good, though I personally prefer a slightly sweet and less tangy sauerkraut. And the kielbasa was also standard but good. I really liked my mocha, which tasted like how I think mochas should be made: more of a hot chocolate with some coffee added to it. We also tried a prune or date paczki. It was good as a thick glazed donut, though there was hardly any filling. Would definitely come back for savory pierogies!

Hastings has changed my view of cabbage rolls with the spices and herbs in the meat, along with the tangy sauce. I couldn't stop eating it.
