My kid ate them and was so full, he refused a pizza at a birthday party some time later. At the same time, syrnyky (19 CAD for three) were a disgrace. Too sweet and sour and almost inedible. I'd suggest making them twice less sweet and get rid of the sour sauce. The restaurant is quite pretentious too! We walked in after the High Park and the waiter immediately said we have to have a reservation, only to then immediately say that we can indeed sit down. - But I understand. This is typical "Eastern European hospitality". Overall, they are trying to be a posh place, but the flavours are not quite there yet. The dishes are one-dinensional, if you will, or 2D. I'd rather have a homey restaurant with really good food.

This restaurant was Ukrainian style, good location in Downtown Toronto. Their website was updated to reflect new dishes and menu. We booked a reservation at 11:30am on Saturday, and they only allowed to stay for 2 hours (the waitress told us we could stay until 1:30pm when we arrived around 11:45). The lunch winterlicious included 1 of 3 Appetizers, 1 of 3 mains, 1 of 3 desserts. We got a Pork soup (Borscht), deep fried chicken (Schnitzel), and honey cake with customized caramel walnuts. We also ordered Deruny Benedict with Smoke Salmon. The soup was coming with some bread and sour cream, but a bit salty for us. As an appetizer, it was ok. The Benedict with Smoke Salmon, somehow the smoke salmon was fishy that the pancake at the bottom was also fishy. Salad within the Benedict and the sauce were great. The fried chicken was no sauce, it was a bit dry for me. At last, the honey cake came in the middle of our meal, too early. There was walnut on it, we didn't realize until see it, my little one has allergy with nuts, we didn't ask at the beginning. About their service, when we just arrived, she mentioned 2 hours limit for the dining period. I feel like she doesn't want us to stay, because we have a kid that we might not able to finish our lunch in 2 hours, or we might occupy the table too long. As first time comer, she didn't ask if we have any allergies. Lucky that we caught it. We finished within 50mins, still have enough time to go washroom and pay the bill. But we have to watch the time. Maybe we would like to relax a bit more next time.

Cute Ukrainian themed restaurant with folk decor throughout & traditional dishes filling the menu…read more Great spot for large family gatherings. Our server was gracious. We were all disappointed in the food. The deruny and kapusta dishes were quite salty and we mentioned this. We ordered the Family Meat Platter for our table. However, the meat was so dry and overcooked. We picked at the shashlyky, but the 'smoked ham' (ribs) were so dry as well as the chicken wings, which were inedible (and pricey). Wings looked to be reheated from a previous day's bbq. Have eaten here before and this time was so disappointing. Recommend sticking with traditional dishes (ex. borscht, varenyky).

The pork schnitzel sandwich was juicy yet had a great fried breading on the outside, probably one of the best I've had in the city. Borscht was light yet hearty, a must get. The platter was also tasty, pierogi was a highlight for me and they have a variety to choose from. Nice little patio outside to enjoy your meal on a nice sunny day, but the bar inside is equally as cozy. Service is super friendly and food comes quick.

I thought it wasn't going to be very busy since this seems like more of an off time, but to my surprise it was packed. I put my name down, and only had to wait around 15 minutes to be seated. Usually when coming here, I'd get the platter for 1 or 2, but this time I just came for a light bite and got the 10 pierogies (5 cottage cheese, 5 meat ones) and a chicken noodle soup to share. The dishes as always, tasted super fresh. The pierogies were very large, soft, and flavourful, no complaints whatsoever and the soup tasted something like my mother & grandmother would make. Service was also pretty quick! Definitely will be back to explore more of the menu :)

The restaurant is small, but vast enough that you won't feel squashed. The "buffet" is situated to the side, with menu items framed behind it on mounted shelves and a mural painted next to the shelves. You tell them what you want and they scoop it for you. A TV plays in the very back and the drink cooler sits across from the buffet as well. We ordered the following: Cabbage rolls combo with buckwheat and cabbage on the side. It was basically stuffed cabbage. Hubs & daughter thought this was good, but it was no big deal. It was ok. Mushrooms and cabbage pierogi and cheese and potatoes pierogi - Overall these were good but we've had better. Hubs only had the mushrooms and cabbage pierogi and he said that he enjoyed this better than the entrees. Somehow, he didn't get to try the cheese and potatoes pierogi. Schnitzel with green beans and potato pancake- Daughter liked the schnitzel and thought that the sides were ok. Hubs thought the schnitzel and the potato pancakes could've used a little more crisp and that it should be fried a little bit longer. Taste wise was ok. The string beans were overcooked and reminded him of school cafeteria. He always wanted to try it but felt disappointed. Tripe soup - We over got to eat this while there, so Hubs had it a few days later. He said that this was pretty good. It was beefy and the tripe was nice and soft. This was one of the better tripes he's had in his lifetime. Daughter is diabetic and wanted diet soda but they didn't have any, so she ended up getting water. The restaurant was cute but it was cold. All the patrons were wearing coats. Place could use some heat. Service was friendly and quick, though. Glad we got to try it, though.
