Since everyone else ordered an egg salad sandwich, I went with the other popular choice -almond chicken. For the choice of bread I picked rosemary currant. In hindsight, I should have tried to pick a bread that didn't have as hard of a crust because I ended up beating up the wall of my mouth. But the sandwich was so good I couldn't stop eating it! Inside the almond chicken I found avocado, garlic aoli, greens, and a breaded chicken breast. I believe the almond is coating the chicken. I initially thought I would eat one half. But then I ate the second half once I got home haha. I also tried a little bit of my friend's egg salad. That soft-boiled egg sure does the trick. The macarons here are also super good. This review is based on macarons only! I came to Euro Pane to satisfy my craving for some good ol' macarons. On a Saturday afternoon, they had a good amount left, but only in a few flavors. I got four: coffee, pistachio, raspberry and blackberry. The coffee had a strong flavor and a nice texture, but all of the other flavors were not impressive. :( The blackberry macaron didn't taste like anything, it just tasted sugary. It is only valet parking, but according to the gentleman inside this store, they validate for an hour so I am coming back here! I love that long wooden table that seats a myriad of people. In addition, I love the segmented display case full of fresh bread. It kind of is reminiscent of the bread at Boudin in San Francisco. This place exudes hip and modern. Today, I had the roast beef sandwich. It was delicious especially with the horse radish sauce. Although I ordered it with sourdough bread, ensure that you request that it be toasted. This was the first visit I've had to the store as the gf typically brings stuff home for me. I've only had a few items here which include their macaroons, egg salad sandwich, bread pudding, and some sort of cheese danish. The only thing I really didn't care for was the cheese danish which just seemed so so in my opinion. As for their macaroons, though they aren't as good as Bouchon or Paulette's, they are solid. You need to pick them up early as they tend to sell out (from what I hear). Their bread pudding is decent, but lacks something perhaps some sort of vanilla sauce? Now nothing special. I'm so sad to write this review. We have been customers for more than a decade. This is the bakery our kids have known their whole lives. This bakery had specialty pastries down pat. Amazing bread. Homey sandwiches and salads. There was an care and esthetic to everything. Yesterday, my 11 year old daughter and I visited for the first time since the change in ownership. The bread display is gone and the pastry display has shrunk significantly. No macaroons. What remains looks ordinary, made without knowledge of how fine pastries should be prepared. The fruit tarts now look like what can be purchased at Whole Foods. Fruit is kind of chopped up and dropped on top. My daughter ordered a chocolate croissant and immediately said, "not special." They are no longer flakey. There is a doughy quality to them. This place is so good I find myself often craving a good open faced egg salad sandwich like the one that they have here. Definitely famous for a reason. I always get mine on Sourdough and it's so delicious. The eggs are perfectly cooked and the tomato paste on the bread is the perfect amount of tangy-ness needed for this sandwich. It always ends up being much too heavy for me though and I can't finish the other half. That's okay though-leftovers for me later! EGGGGSSS for DAYS. The egg salad over rosemary bread is delicious and probably what most people come here to get. Perfectly boiled eggs. I also had the smoked salmon wasn't as good as the eggs but still tasty. The smoked salmon itself was rich in color and the onions and cream on top was great. I didn't really enjoy the flatbread that came with it. It was a tad bit hard. The chicken almond sandwich was alright. The bread was great but the chicken was a little dry. However the pesto sauce really gave it some great flavor. Dessert here was my favorite part though. Their macarons are great. Lots of filling and the shell is perfect. Great taste. The pear muffin was also delightful. Also if you're thirsty the arnold palmer is a great choice. It tasted fresh and not overly sweet. Service is alright. I felt kind of rush at the register since the area is so small and there were a lot of people in line. I've been here twice now and feel compelled to actually write a review. My cousin first introduced me to this bakery when we were trying to find a good Sunday brunch location. Her husband first became aware of it when he spotted it in one of those food network shows, titled "Best Thing I Ever Ate", where a foodie notes his faves and Euro Pane's Egg Salad Sandwich was showcased. You really GOTTA try this! Cheese crusted bread with a blanket of salad and yummy egg chunks in a mountain lay on top. The creamy egg mixture goes SOO well with the crunchy toast and salty cheese crust. Other notable must tries are the french toast with chunks of strawberries, and smoked salmon benedict. These are the three staples that should never leave their menu! All of their items are priced just right except for the salmon benedict. Both are casual. (See How I Rate below.) We've been eating here regularly for many years, both in and grabbing things to go. Most of their thousand (or maybe it's about 50) baked goods are perfection, though we have favorites. Rarely has an item been merely mediocre, and since they're always trying new things in addition to the staples, those rarely get repeated. Overall, we give their baked goods the edge over Bouchon's, though each has its specialties (the two go-to spots depending on whether you're on the east or west side). The sandwiches and salads we've tried are fresh, unique and delicious. It's also the wonderful, warm, enthusiastic staff that keeps us coming back. This really makes a difference. After a few visits you can feel like Norm walking into Cheers here. (Sorry kids, I can't think of a more recent reference.) Notes on some specific edibles: The unique EGG SALAD SANDWICH: Deservedly famous. Served open-face on your choice of housebaked bread (I prefer the rosemary-currant slice for that savory-sweet thing), thin layer of pipérade-like tomato spread, mixed greens, and piled high with lovely rough-cut medium-cooked eggs with minimal sauce (none of that typical mayonnaisey mess). I recommend grinding a bit of salt and fresh pepper on it, which brings out the flavors. You tackle this dish with fork and knife. The overall balance of flavors and textures is what makes it. OTHER SANDWICHES: Served on their excellent housebaked breads. Our favorites are the Grilled Veggie with feta on ciabatta (say Yes when they ask if you want it pressed!), Spicy Asian Pork (an incredibly flavorful bánh mì), and Seared Chicken (with hummus, roasted pepper spread and feta). The Portobella Mushroom sandwich is also good (nice balance of garlic in the pesto). IMO, the Mediterranean Chicken sandwich is a bit plain compared to the others, but some like that. Yummy French toast. The frittatas are intensely flavorful, an easy on-the-go option. COFFEE: Good coffee from the best local roaster, Jones Coffee. A Pasadena favorite now with two locations! The prices are on the higher side but the quality is there. One gripe is that the server didn't ask us if we wanted our pastries heated up. As I was eating next to the pastry case, I overheard the server asking if another customer wanted there item warmed...ugh. We had the almond croissant, bread pudding cake, gruyere cheese puff and a few other yummys. Tasty as always, the bakers have it down and they are consistently putting out great goods. The menus are very similar, but this location seems to offer a weekend menu which I have not seen at the other branch. What? Free drink! Oh wait, no that's supposed to be someone else's drink. What a tease! I'm not exactly sure if I needed a drink along with anything I've had here since the dishes are pretty well-balanced in terms of flavors. FOOD QUALITY: The open-faced egg salad sandwich was a giant delight; it's somewhat of a wonder how something so simple can taste so good. It's amazingly delicious and despite how many eggs they probably put in there I didn't feel entirely gross. Speaking of which, even their breakfast sandwich that consisted of olive bread with a thin layer of BACON (!!!), topped with massive amounts of CHEESE (with a special sauce that I had no clue what it was but tasted pretty darn good.) Food quality here does not fall short, and they make sure that they serve really fresh ingredients. Delicious! ENVIRONMENT: I like the decorations here but I'm not very fond of any of the seating arrangements. It's pretty small, slightly cramped except for the giant log-bench in the center of the dining area. If you have a large party that can fit the entire bench then enjoy, otherwise have fun sharing it with other people! Lovely place for lunch. It's pretty busy as well from what I've seen but I definitely have to come back and try the food! Today I grabbed some macroons. I tried the espresso, raspberry, hazelnut and the famous sea salt caramel macroon. The sea salt was amazing! The espresso was light and not too overwhelming on the pallet. The hazelnut seemed to just melt on your tongue. The raspberry however I wasn't quite fond of. I thought it would be sweet and fruity but it was overly sweet and strangely tasted of mustard. I thought I was just me but my fiancé agreed. However my overall experience here was pleasant. Lovely staff and a clean place with outdoor seating too. Good food and decent coffee, a little pricey for what I got. Got a black coffee and a bacon and cheese wrap. The wrap had a good flavor with a healthy account of bacon, I didn't find myself hoping for any condiments with the wrap. The coffee was well brewed, not at all burnt tasting but still fresh. I met a friend here for brunch/lunch and it was both our first visit to Europane. Concept: Order, pay, take a seat if you're dining in and they'll walk around in and outdoor calling your name to drop off your dine-in order; Or simply just wait by the cashier to pick up takeout orders. The chalkboard menu was confusing and it took us a few minutes to figure out what we wanted based on the menu offerings. It seems as though everyone is standing in-line-but-not-really-until-you-know-what-you-want to order. So typically people let you go ahead and bypass them in the so-called-line. Before you get to the cashier, there is a small refrigerator displaying macaroons and other menu items. Based on my experience, the guys taking orders make you feel rushed. The lady (probably the owner) has an annoying nagging/whiney/pitchy voice walking around calling patron's names while holding plates of food for those dining in. However, the rest of the wait staff was friendly and helpful. My friend ordered the highly recommended egg salad sandwich and from what I could tell, she was satisfied. I ordered the seasonal watermelon summer salad (in mid-October) which had arugula, sprinkled chunks of (feta?) cheese, green seedless grapes, sliced cherry tomatoes and sliced green olives . I was delighted to see its presentation upon receiving my plate (see posted photo). The salad was sitting on a huge slab of sweet seedless watermelon. I suggest ordering it while you still can due to the seasonal change from summer to fall if you like fruity salads. Since I've never tried french macaroons, Europane was the first place I've ever had the opportunity to order and taste these sweet delights. We ordered one of each (seven) flavor available. I didn't like the brightly colored fruity ones so much, but I did like the caramel sea salt macaroon. I shared these delights with family and friends and would imagine the mocha and chocolate flavored ones to be good too. QUALITY = 3.5 SERVICE = 3 TIP: Outdoor and indoor seating available. However, both have very limited tables and seats. Paseo Colorado shopping complex is located directly across the street so you can always park there underground and perhaps get your ticket validated as Macy's for free two-hour parking. Yay! I'm always a fan but I don't come here as much as it is a bit on the expensive side. For me their sandwiches/salad are just a ok, I am more of a fan of their tarts/pastries!! But most of their stuff has lots of eggs and cheese! I wish they can have a few more vegan options soon! For my very last visit, tried the portobello mushroom/red bell peppers panini. Wish they can put more veggies in there. It was probably the one and only time I can walk out of Europane without getting desserts. I was bummed the last time I tried coming here, and they were closed (after 5:30 on a Saturday). Glad I made it this time. You order and pay in the front, then grab a seat. They don't give out numbers, so I'm not sure how they know who to bring the food to, but their system seemed to work okay. Got the Egg Salad Sandwich everyone raved about. It was definitely a solid sandwich, but I didn't find it something I'd particularly come back for. The chunks of soft-boiled eggs were good, but tasted like something I could have made. However, what made the sandwich stand out was a tomato spread on the bottom and the delicious rosemary bread. Yum! For $8.50, this open faced sandwich is pretty pricey. Also got three macarons. They didn't have the two flavors I had wanted to try (Pistachio and Sea Salt Caramel), so I got the Passion Fruit, Strawberry, and Blackberry. The macaroons were crisp on the outside and so soft on the inside. One of the flavors had a chewier texture than the others, but all three had a light cream filling that just melted in my mouth. The truth about the famous egg salad sandwich? It's utterly disappointing. Boiled eggs with mayo and chives. The slightly underdone eggs are a nice touch but the seasoning is totally lacking. I was bummed that the sandwich was so mediocre. You let me down, Yelp. The tuna melt? Very light on the mayo and heavy on the capers. Good, I guess, if light mayo and capers are your thing. As for desserts, the cream puff is great, filled with a light vanilla bean cream, and the macarons are actually not bad either. The chocolate eclair is average. I tried a few baked breads which were all fairly good. All were better than the sandwiches I had. The baked items are definitely superior so opt for those instead. read more

*** STAPLE BAKERY IN PASADENA *** Funny how I have not reviewed Europane.. Been here numerous times (and to the other location too). They are famous for their egg salad sandwich. If you do not want the sandwich part, you can order an egg salad (it's just without the bread). I've thought about recreating it with the copycat version of the recipe online but haven't gotten around to it yet. The sandwich is open-faced style. The chicken salad sandwich is also quite tasty. Their macarons are bigger than usual. My favorite flavors are coffee, earl grey, pistachio. They have a blueberry brioche that is a must order too (and a raspberry version). Love the olive stick. Europane baked goods are in other places too. Since I moved, I get my Europane blueberry brioche fix at Monsieur Crepe in Sierra Madre. Basically you can't go wrong with Europane. read more

We came here because of the reviews, seeing all the positive compliments. However, we were terribly disappointed. After waiting quite some time, we finally ordered and squeezed into a small table. Our food looked delicious (I'll give them that) but the second my knife cut into the sandwich, it was over. The bread was super hard that it just ruined the rest of the dish. This is not just for my plate- which was the eggs Benedict. We also ordered the Mediterranean sandwich, which had hard bread also. We were sawing through the bread, not cutting. And the chicken was too dry. The "famous" egg salad did not live up to the name. Not only was he bread too hard, the eggs were very bland. How can you be a bakery and not have good bread? That's just deceiving. We didn't finish our food and contemplated asking for a refund, but we just decided to leave. They also forgot our soup. Bad service and bad food. I'd give zero stars if I could. Sorry, will not be coming back here but at least we tried. read more

I used to love getting their croissants, muffins, and scones but since they have changed ownership their items have not been the same. I noticed the difference in the taste and flakiness of the croissants ~ definitely not the same flavor/flakiness as pre-pandemic. The website link that's listed here takes you to the OLD website with the OLD menu - which brings me to my 3 Star rating: I went to get a croissant to have with my soup for lunch but they were sold out so I purchased an individually wrapped ciabatta roll. I asked the gal who was helping me if they were going to update their website. Her response was "For what" (not a question, but a statement) and she gave me an annoyed look. I looked at her and said, "Because you don't even have the beet salad on the menu anymore". Really?!?! The menu on the website has all the items pre-pandemic and the old prices. Whoever these new owners are, please update your website with the new menu and prices...and your employee could be a little more polite when asked a question by your customers. read more

I came here for having a sandwich and I ordered smoked salmon sandwich with brioche. That was so good combination. I would order it again. The cafe late was very good as well. read more

Stop by this place and had some lunch. The egg sandwich was delicious. The salmon was okay, nothing special. The macroons was pretty big compare to other places. Taste wise- very disappointing. Got pistachio raspberry, & passion fruit all of them did not have any hints of those flavor. They all taste the same which doesn't taste like anything. The famous open face egg salad did not disappoint (it was eggcellent)!!! Highly recommend this place for breakfast or brunch. They have a number of breakfast sandwich/wrap options and drinks to complement. They also have an abundance of pastries/desserts to choose from. read more
