He called back with the diagnosis: one cracked spark plug causing the misfire. He then immediately recommended replacing all spark plugs plus a fuel-injection service--totaling $1,800. I asked for the price to replace just the spark plugs; he quoted $1,300. I explained we couldn't afford that and requested they replace only the one cracked plug so she could safely reach school and we could plan the rest later. Chris refused. The shop would not do a single spark-plug replacement. It was pay $1,300 for the full set or just the diagnostic fee--and they'd send her back on the road with the flashing light and misfire still active. They were ready to release a teenage driver with a known engine issue rather than perform the minimal, diagnosed repair. This felt like blatant upselling that took advantage of her vulnerability and my concern as a parent 150+ miles away. I took my VW Jetta Sport Wagon and got a vehicle health inspection. I had several items addressed…read more One item was replacement of the rear shock absorbers. After all the work was completed, I picked up the car. As I drove out of the parking lot, I immediately heard a rattling sound in the left rear area that I had never heard before. I kept for a few days to see if I could identify the source of the noise. I did not find anything but found that the air cleaner hose was not reconnected and the battery box were not secure (the air filter and battery were replaced in this service visit). I took the vehicle back to the shop. They told me the rattling noise was somewhere behind interior panels and that I needed to take it to a body shop. I took it to my body shop and they removed interior panels and inspected. They found no issues but believed it was in the left rear suspension. They gave me the name of a shop that specializes in foreign cars. I took it there and the found loose bolts on the left rear suspension. Fortunately, I was able to get the body shop and VW mechanic not to charge me for that particular trouble shouting. The mechanic was going to charge me $200 for the troubleshooting. I went back the shop that installed the shocks asking for a refund of the $200 it would have cost me as compensation for all the difficulties (leaving the car at 2 other shops and the transportation to and from the shops over the course of two weeks). They refused and offered me a discount on my next service. WHY WOULD I EVEN WANT TO GO BACK!

I have limited income and it really helps me to spread things out and put a little bit in each month. The work they do is excellent. They are warm and friendly. I have taken my friends to them and my friends are also happy.

Brenda called 8 days later saying they couldn't diagnose the problem. He said his master mechanic with 40 whatever years of experience couldn't duplicate the issue - and admitted they did not drive it the minimum duration I told them to to replicate the problem. Once again, why are you trying to diagnose something that you had approval to just fix?! I don't care how experienced the mechanic is. If they are unwilling to do their due diligence in diagnosing the problem, especially with explicit instructions from the customer (yes, some customers know what they're talking about) all that experience is irrelevant.
