Awesome family owned restaurant. Excellent food and service. You'll need a reservation, but definitely worth it

This was supposed to be a no brainer for 5 Stars. Unfortunately it did not go that way…read more For starters this is touted as a world class restaurant. It attracts several celebrities including Chef Bobby Flay, Paul McCartney, Oprah, J-Lo, Stanley Tucci, and the list goes on. We were celebrating our anniversary and my daughter knows I love this stuff so she made a reservation for a Saturday afternoon. She explained that it was her parents anniversary and was hoping we'd get a table on the water.. So let me start with the positive. First the views are amazing. Decor was well done, but for us it seemed to stop there. We ordered a couple of apps for the table. Fried cauliflower blossoms, not memorable, potato crochets, also not memorable. Next we had tuna tartare, ok at best. For my entree I ordered the lemon sauce spaghetti. Wasn't at all what I would have expected. I could go through the rest of the entree's but I really don't want to relive it. I mentioned earlier that it was our anniversary but no mention from the staff. Yes we requested a table by the water, but this afternoon we could have had any one of several tables at the waterside but we didn't. No little comp of desert or a cupcake. I really had my hopes up but turned out to be a disappointment for me. If I'm back in Italy it will be a toss up if I want to take a chance and eat there.

HANDS DOWN, by far, THE best restaurant in town! Nothing is close!!!…read moreWe have had a few meals in town, spent time on the beach and know what's what. Our last night- we didn't want a loud bar atmosphere or the disappointment of an over priced, stuffy, mediocre (which I will rate elsewhere!) restaurant. Thank goodness our choice was Mary's!! Mary's is family owned and run. Such a pleasure to meet and interact with them! We showed up before they were open and the son of the owner let us know their hours and said he looked forward to seeing us in a bit. When we arrived at the correct time, we were quickly greeted with a genuine smile and "so glad you came back to join us tonight." He remembered us and we were treated like we were appreciated, like family. They brought us delicious bread in a basket, twice, and breadsticks in this cool sculpture that mimicked the mountain range down the beach. They explained what it was and the focaccia bread that came with the sculpture was instantly gone between the four of us. We ordered drinks, Peroni beer and vodka with lime, along with several bottles of still water. We had questions on the menu and everything was answered completely. It was so nice to have staff that treat you like you are not a nuisance. Everyone that works at this restaurant is very kind, they have amazing energy, they love what they do, and they're proud of the beautiful and delicious food that they make! We had homemade spaghetti with clams and cherry tomatoes, homemade pasta with seafood, shrimps and squid's and gnocchi with tomato sauce. DElish!! For desert we had homemade lava cake with vanilla ice cream and tiramisu. Homemade by Mary!! She explained her extensive menu of desserts- yummy! Do not waste your time or money anywhere else. Such a treat to have a fresh, homemade, delicious meal in a relaxed, beautiful, attentive, friendly atmosphere with family. The next morning, we came down for coffee. What a beautiful way to start a day! THIS is your place! You will not be disappointed! Thank you Mary and family!

Having visited multiple places in Italy and Sicily the last time, this place stood out as one of the favorite spots on our trip. Of course we had to stop by again, and we were not disappointed. When in Sorrento, lemon pasta is a must, but I have the say that the true star was La Genovese pasta, which was recommended by our server. My husband still liked lemon pasta best, which means you really can't go wrong. Their bread was also delicious, particularly the white bread and the breadsticks, and they give you balsamic vinegar and olive oil for it. Considering most of the bread we had in Italy was surprisingly disappointing, it's exciting to eat somewhere that the food is good from start to finish. They also gave us one scoop of limoncello and one scoop of lemon gelato for dessert. Both were delicious, but my favorite was the lemon gelato. This is our second time back, and we would not hesitate to eat here again the next time we're in Sorrento. Servers were also friendly and helpful. The food does take a while, but that goes to show that it all is freshly made. This place is great whether it's for a casual dining experience or for date night. They also have free WiFi, just ask them for the info. I love that it's also a family establishment, and family members work at the restaurant. I'm already looking forward to my next visit here.

My pasta bolognese was a disappointment. The sauce was sour and barely a trace of meat. Unlike other restaurants, they seem to specialize in table turn over.
