We were on a boat tour from Sorrento which stopped in Amalfi for lunch. Rather than dine on the expensive foods in Amalfi, we decided instead to walk over to Atrani and try this restaurant. The walk was treacherous, but the food was well worth! We ordered a mix from their "lighter lunch" and regular menus. From the lunch menu, we got the tomato salad as a starter for 4EUR, and a spaghetti vongole for 13EUR. We also ordered the risotto pescatore (they called it the fisherman's rice), which was slightly more expensive at 26EUR, but filled with a variety of seafood. The food was delicious! They had initially served the vongole without the sauce, but topped it with the sauce almost immediately. The vongole was salty and buttery, and the small clams were not fishy at all. I had expected the fisherman's rice to be tomato-based, but it was strong in seafood flavour. In fact, I found it resembled a seafood congee in profile. There were many pieces of octopus and squid, so the portion of seafood was quite generous. The tomato salad was simple but tasty. The menu was quite well-priced relative to other Amalfi options (though objectively still a little pricey), and the food was quite yummy with friendly service. Definitely recommend! read more

Screaming hot and humid Friday night and I was sat without a reservation. The patroness came out with a hand fan for me due to the heat and I ordered a 1/2 litre of house white, the tomato salad and ricotta ravioli with cream sauce...plus 2 bottles of still water (did I mention TROPPO CALDO). One of the best meals of my life, the staff made me feel welcome and instantly relaxed and the food was incredible!! The view of the square is very relaxing and puts you at ease immediately. The tomatoes were super sweet and the perfect texture, the bread was crusty and soft simultaneously, and the ravioli was a creamy dream with a light current of amalfi lemon steeped n the sauce. i would plan another trip to Atrani just to eat here again. We spent a week on the Amalfi coast. The food and service at Savo was amazing. Lots of tourist traps and poor offerings in Amalfi and especially in Positano. This little town of Atrani had two of the best restaurants on the Amalfi coast and I'd put Savo up against any restaurant I've ever been to. Fresh pasta, incredible tomatoes, lemon pasta was incredible. I asked for a recommendation and Elia suggested the zucchini pasta which was one of the cheaper items on the menu. Where do they do that? This was our second meal in Italy, but I consider it the absolute first since it was a true sit-down with several courses, not just a quick bite of pizza. Boy, was it memorable. We had unusually chilly 50's and rainy weather our entire time in Atrani, but we still sat outside here, as they had the clear tarp and heat lamps so it was very comfortable. Service was wonderful. Starters: buffalo mozzarella & tomato with EVOO drizzle / sauteed octopus over a fresh carrot and cucumber salad. Entrees: fish of the day for two, baked in black salt, served with a seasoned lemon olive oil for pouring / side salad Desserts: almond semifreddo / chocolate cake. Paired the meal with a nice bottle of white. Everything from start to finish was impeccable, especially that addicting sauce that went over the fish. They brought the fish out twice before we ate it - once to show it raw and how fresh it was, another to show it mid-cooking in the black salt. Veggies were all fresh. What a wonderful treat in this small Italian square. After a beautiful day walking the Path of the gods, we were hungry for a nice dinner. Food: When u eat twice at this place in a two day trips, then there must be something about it. The food is fresh and tasty. Even the breads (which are given free) are perfect beyond words given with olive oil and balsamic vinegar of modena. The best breads I have eaten in Italy so far (have been to Milan, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Naples) just to prove the point. Hospitality: the lady at the counter and the waiter both are such warm people. Seems like an amalfi trait. They are actually a family of 4. One brother and mother taking care of the management and service and the other brother and father cook that tasty food. Fish was cooked to perfect. So moist and tender . The tuna crudo was so tasty and unique with its pistachio toppings and herbs. Just delightful. This is just the kind of place you can dine at many times!! I did, i ate here 5 different tomes in my 3 weeks in Atrani. It was always a pleasure. Vongole was cooked so perfect, clams were not overcooked and tasted as fresh as the sea .. pasta with cod was delicate and light with a fresh pomodoro sauce. Delicious. The house made gnocchi were pillows of amore! Just heaven almost like angels were singing. Desserts were amazing do not miss their torrone almond dessert insanely good! By far the best meal we had on the coast and honestly, the best meal I have had in Italy that was not home cooked in two separate trips. We always ask for recommendations - and take them. We had the octopus appetizer, handmade John Dorry pasta and the zucchini pasta followed by the daily rock salt fish for two. Both pasta dishes were amazing and the fish simply melted in your mouth. How has this place not yet been reviewed? Atrani is a TINY town where people choose to relax from the tourist filled Amalfi (short 15 min walk). The restaurant is the first one on the left once you enter Piazza Umberto and is prime people watching territory. The outside tables are forever reserved and we were lucky they accommodated us. However, I don't think they anticipated us being there for 3 hours (they probably aren't used to Americans eating that long). A liter of the house red wine to start along with prosciutto and mozzarella. Delicious. I'm going back for dinner again to capture the menu and some pictures since I failed to the first time... it was just too enjoyable to sit, drink, and watch the locals do their thing. My husband and I traveled to the Amalfi Coast for our anniversary and stayed in Atrani. Everything you see in photos about this paradise is 1,000x better in person. A few flight of stairs down from our apartment was the lovely, family owned Ristorante Savo. I knew I wanted to check this place out so I made a reservation. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table on the patio. We started with wine, of course, which flows like water in Italy. We started with some pastas to start and had some fish for our second courses. After our pasta first course, the second course really wasn't needed because we were filling up. The service was wonderful, very family oriented and were so friendly. Even though we couldn't speak much Italian and they didn't speak much English we went back and forth like we had known each other for years! The food matched the warm and coziness of the restaurant. Traditional, homemade, authentic, and delicious! The food and dining experience was so memorable and we cannot wait to return one day. On to the good stuff: Porcini and sausage risotto: This was one of those dishes that just warms your soul. Creamy, perfectly cooked rice with tender mushrooms and house made sausage. This was so flavorful, I wish I could have a bowl of it now. Spaghetti Vongole: An Amalfi staple, that I ate for many of my meals. Such a simple dish of clams fresh from the sea, olive oil and pasta water. The pasta was cooked aldente and the clams were sweet and tender. Perfectly executed! read more

The clams with spaghetti was a group favorite, but my favorite was the octopus salad and the mussels. I assume the woman running the front is the owner. This has been my best dining experience yet in Italy. The ambience, music, and service was impeccable. We started with the Macaroni followed by the catch of the day (sea bass) grilled with mint, grilled vegetables, and rigatoni with zucchini. While everything was delicious I must say the sea bass was perfectly seasoned and cooked! If you visit Ristorante Savo the house white wine is definitely a must not only is it a great price, but your palette with love it's crisp flavor. While waiting for our wine/food to be served, it was wonderful to see how helpful the owners/employees were to each other ensure that every customer received five star service. The menu is also very tourist friendly and they do a great job at explaining if you have any questions. We went Friday night for the first time and enjoyed it so much that we made 8:30pm dinner reservations for Saturday when we were brought our check! We stayed in Atrani for 4 nights and we had the most memorable dinner at Savo. We started with non-seafood pastas for the 1st course and we were blown away, the macaroni dish with prosciutto (bacon on the menu) and cheese and wow it was incredible. My wife had the spaghetti with tomato, basil, and garlic and it was amazing too. We were very surprised by how much gourmet preparation and work went into the pasta sauces. This place was perfect! From the moment we walked in the customer service was top notch. We came here after attempting to do le Palme where we were sat and was completely ignored for 10 minutes before we just left. The food was so goooood! I got the beef steak and my husband got the muscle soup that he couldn't stop raving about. The workers made sure to watch over all of the tables and every time my husbands bowl was full of muscle shells they quickly brought him a new bowl. When we were done we were given two shots of limoncello. That was the sweetest gesture of all. The prices of the food were extremely reasonable. My Risotto was simply the best I have ever had anywhere. I am not techno-savvy, and wasn't set up on yelp, but I had to get it figured out just to write this review. This place was absolutely fantastic! We went here our very last night on the Amalfi Coast, and was so glad we went to the trouble to walk on foot from Amalfi. It wasn't easy to find our way along the narrow roads on foot, as this restaurant is on a lower level from the road to Amalfi. We were so glad we kept going (we almost gave up and stopped at an earlier pizza place). The food is local and fresh, the service was wonderful, and the decor was like icing on the cake (beautiful artwork, furniture and embroidered napkins). From seafood, to pasta, to dessert, it was all incredible. We went to several restaurants in Amalfi and Florence during our trip, and this one was the best.
