Away from the hustle and bustle of the main square, this restaurant is a few steps walk from the Duomo. It has a casual mom-n-pop feel, and with great food. We really liked the seafood risotto; the flavors of the sea was cooked into each risotto grain. The mixed fried seafood platter was pretty good too. My kids liked their lamb chops with pea cream and paccheri pasta with truffles. The only thing we didn't like was the amberjack fish with smoked eggplant and almonds -- it sounded interesting on the menu, but the fish lacked flavor and we weren't sure if it paired well with eggplant and almonds. I must mention the excellent service we received here! Each member of the staff, from the greeter to our server to the ones who cleared our plates, were genuinely nice. Our group had multiple allergies and the staff took sincere care to ensure that each person had safe things to eat. They took the allergen list to the kitchen and discussed how they can prepare it. Delicious and unique food! I had one of the best gnocchi dishes here. It was huge, pillowy soft, and sat on a bed of creamy pistachio pesto sauce. Located in the heart of Amalfi, eating at L'Abside was little being welcomed home. The service, from the host to the chef and his staff were incredible. Our first night there, we arrived late and had no reservations. The restaurant was packed, but after talking to the host for a minute he told us to wait a bit and he would see what he could do. He quickly arranged a table, inside, and close to the kitchen, and we were able to dine. And what a diner it was. The ambience and atmosphere is like no other. You feel the embrace of the Mediterranean, the niceness of the people, and then you taste the amazing flavors the chef and his team put together. Everything was exquisite! This was a great meal! I would definitely recommend getting reservations if you can, we were able to walk up at 8pm because there happened to be openings, but most were turned away. The location was great, it is in a beautiful little piazza a little ways up from the main square. I got the zucchini pasta, which was pretty good! My girlfriend and I showed up at 9pm on a week day and the entire patio was full. We walk up and they ask if I had one, I say no. They say sorry, we're full for the night. I thought no way!! Oh well, but then a sever came up and asked if we're were okay with an inside table. I said of course! I was so happy to get seated because I knew we were in for a treat, and it did not disappoint. They had three specials for the night so we went ahead and ordered all three. I mean, when am I gonna be in Amalfi again? First, the octopus and shrimp carpaccio with a mouthwatering lemon sauce from fresh Amalfi lemons. We finished the plate and both wanted more. So good. Never had octopus carpaccio but I was definitely rockin with it. Next was the main two dishes: Calamarata with tuna sautéed in a white wine and onion sauce - we tasted this and were both shocked about the amount of flavor that was happening in our mouths. It was basically a tuna ragu and yes, I mopped up the sauce with bread at the end. "You could put that sauce on a flip flop and it would taste good" - Guy Fieri Linguini with lobster in a butter sauce - HUGE pieces of juicy lobster and and perfectly cooked linguini. I had been craving lobster the whole trip and this dish hit the spot. I also mopped this plate up with the bread. That's how good they were. We agreed this was the best meal we had in Italy, and that's saying a lot because we also went to Milan, Rome and Naples. read more

Our absolute favorite dinner during our Amalfi Coast trip. Luckily, we walked up as soon as they opened and were able to secure a table inside as they were completely booked for outside dining. We watched a number of people turned away throughout our meal so I highly recommend reservations. My husband and I shared a ragu to start which was the best ragu I had during our trip to Italy. The restaurant was nice enough to split the portion ahead of time. Then, we shared the beef tenderloin. Absolutely delicious with the bitter, salty rocket. To finish it off, we had the chocolate doughnuts filled with cream. I would absolutely return here and recommend it to anyone visiting the area for a romantic dinner. read more

Great lunch spot in Amalfi located a bit off the main street. My friends and I picked a spot outside for our lunch. The patio was mostly shaded so we were quite chilly by the end of our late October lunch. The service was good and while meals do take a bit longer in Italy, this one really wasn't a time killer. Food was tasty and not overpriced. The menu has tons of options, from heavy to light. There's a lighter lunch menu as well! I chose the Ravello salad, which is basically a salad with grilled chicken (a good amount) and a plethora of Parmesan cheese! The salad was good and a welcome change from all the heavy pasta dishes I had been eating on vacation. My friends shared two dishes- linguine with seafood and a pizza. They raved about the linguine with clams dish and eagerly ate both plates. While it didn't take my favorite meal of the trip, it was good food, good service and a decent price. Such a friendly staff, very helpful and genuine. We had seafood pasta, chef daily suggestion and the lasagna, and everyone enjoyed their food. All decently priced (73€ with 1 appetizer, 3 mains, 2 water bottles and 2 coffees). As I used to work in restaurants, I know spotless bathroom equals spotless kitchen and staff training. Will recommend to anyone seeking quality meal in beautiful setting. This is one of the few places that makes you regain confidence that you can find genuine places that aren't trying to take advantage of tourists even in a busy area. Highly recommended. I have not dined here, but I will when we return for a future trip! I can't say enough about the wonderful hospitality of the staff. My husband and 2 year old twin boys were lost in the square trying to find a bathroom with a changing table. The staff at the restaurant noticed our confused faces and asked if there was anything they could do to help. They offered their spare staff table in the back for me to use! I was blown away by the sweet gesture and almost cried. They even embraced my boys and made them laugh. If they were this genuinely helpful to a complete stranger who did not pay for a meal, I can only imagine the care and dining experience they'd provide for their guests. This restaurant is tucked away in one of the alleyways near the town center of Amalfi. I found this place by accident, and it definitely was worth the find! I ate the salami pizza and it was extremely delicious. All of the fresh ingredients you would expect on a true authentic Italian pizza. We spent the last day of a 12 day Italy trip in Amalfi. Our tour director has been bringing groups to L'Abside for years and raved about the excellent dishes served here. Side note: I'm not big on pasta dishes mainly because sauces are too rich or too bland for my taste. I also have a texture aversion to spaghetti and avoid ordering long pastas or anything that I can easily make at home. So I was extremely excited to go on this trip because of authentic Italian cuisine I get to try from different regions as we work our way down Italy. Maybe it'll change my palate for all things pasta. Unfortunately, most of the dishes I've had has been a disappointment. Pastas and pizza's has been the main staple everywhere we went. Although some are quite good, none has been outstandingly worth raving about. Until L'Abside, I wanted to give homemade pasta one more try and ordered one with seafood. Also shared octopus and potato salad with hubby. The octopus was cooked perfectly, it was so tender and full of flavor. Potatoes tasted organic that had been plucked out of the ground that morning, it was addicting. It was such a simple dish, no frills, just drizzled with olive oil, salt, pepper and herbs but it was one of the best salads I've had in my life. The seafood pasta was OMG, pasta was in its purest homemade shape and flavor, not a hint of processed taste to it. The sauce was a good balance of creamy yet light enough that it still allowed the seafood flavor to stand out. Most seating is outdoors, small tables with white linen tablecloths surrounded by century old buildings and quaint shops. All I can say is, my palate was revived of its faith on Italian cuisine by these two dishes and grateful to have experienced a true Italian dolce vita while sipping tea and people watching at this restaurant. read more

I came here for lunch one day during my stay in Amalfi, it was on a sidewalk off the main piazza which meant it was a bit quiter! I had been eating pizza and pasta all week and craving some salad; the deciding factor on coming here was seeing someone else's salad! I ordered the anchovy bruschetta to start and then a prawn salad. The bruschetta was incredible! The fish was so fresh, as were the tomatoes, I could have happily ordered another one and was pretty sad that I had ordered this to share with my boyfriend! The prawn salad was also very good, loads more prawns then I expected which is always a bonus! The staff were so so nice, for some reason wasps kept hovering around me (I hate wasps, they could probably smell the fear)! One lovely waitress tried her best to shoo them away for me but they kept coming back! I'd definitely recommend coming here, nice and quiet but only a stone's throw from the piazza. It had at most 8 tiny mussels and clams and 3-4 very thin pieces of calamari; definitely not a good dish. Lasagna was a tiny portion, risotto had very few shrimp but it tasted ok. Service- pretty terrible. Nobody asked you anything; they seemed bothered and bored. In the beginning they put a basket of bread on the table. No butter, no oil, nothing, just bland bread. This restaurant is a bit out the way of the hustle and bustle of Amalfi and the food is worth the mini excursion. Service was professional and kind. My ravioli was fresh and flavorful, the mixed bruschetta appetizer was tasty although I wished the olive oil was more prominent here, and their panna cotta was so so fresh and creamy--the real star of the show. Overall, it won't be the best Italian food you've ever eaten, but those are some high stakes, and I didn't realize that coming from NY would skew my experience in that regard. We stayed in Conca De Marini, a 10 minute drive to the town of Amalfi, where we'd hang out during the evening for meals. Used Trip Advisor to find this restaurant and really enjoyed ourselves. In fact, we had dinner here twice! Just note, the restaurant gets busy! First night we waited about 10 mins for outside seating. Indoor seating is limited and you really want to sit outside for a nicer experience. The server said that on certain nights they only take reservations, so you might want to plan ahead and make reservations. It's a casual dining experience and it was all super yummy. We had the mussels, egg plant parm and pasta. The broth for the mussels was over-the-top good, dipping the bread until the last drop! Also had the pasta which was delicious.
