Bacon and Eggs with Pancakes

Before moving to Molalla, I was already looking at the local restaurants. The one that jumped out was Eugene's Hitchin' Post Café. I'm always in search for a great breakfast. After moving to Molalla my wife and I went to the Hitchin' Post. We were not to be disappointed! When eating breakfast out I'm always in search of a great Chicken Fried Steak and hash browns. The Chicken Fried Steak here does not disappoint! Plus, they offer two sizes of Chicken Fried Steak for only a two-dollar difference. Of course, I'm going to pay $2.00 more for twice the size. What also stands out is their hash browns. A different cut of potato than what you typically see. They are fried to perfection! My wife usually gets the pancakes and bacon, and their bacon is incredible! This is not your typical Denny's bacon that you can see through. This is high quality think cut bacon. There are many places you can go to and get a decent breakfast. But Eugene's Hitchin' Post Café really stands out! It offers a great country feel inside, the service here has always been friendly, and the food is incredible. If you've never been to Eugene's Hitchin' Post give this place a try!

Great homestyle cooked food, with amazing people who shine brighter then the food they serve. Got the pleasure of sharing the table with Jack a local resident who made conversation and was a highlight of breakfast.. The food was phenomenal also, the omelets and sausage really stick out from the rest.

Had a great breakfast here the other day! I am an eggs Benedict snob and this place was just what I needed. I love the small town/country feel of this restaurant. They even helped out a local guy named "Jack" with breakfast. (Gotta live here to know that story) good prices too!

It can't get much better then a place where people know each other's name. I've dreamt of living in the country to experience that kind of familiarity and it's been wonderful to walk in and you don't even need a menu they know you so well. The Hitching post has such a family feel and I'm so happy to support such a special business. Needless to say the food is absolutely wonderful, we have never been disappointed.

Great food. Big portions. Friendly service. You know a place is good when it is where the locals go.

Taking a leisurely drive home from Oregon Gardens and came in here for lunch. Some of the best clam chowder anywhere.

We arrived around 1:30 on a Saturday (they close at 2 until dinner). Plenty of street parking…read more There was one other party that left maybe 15 min after we sat down. The interior is very cute - there was a red checkered tablecloth on our table. Our waitress was super nice and friendly. When we ordered the espresso martini and mentioned we only wanted one to share, she came back with it split into two mini glasses! We've never had that happen before. The french toast was really good, esp. with the lemon curd. I was scraping every last bit of it into my mouth. I'd love to try other menu items next time!

We had a 10:45 reservation but ended up waiting outside on the sidewalk for over 40 minutes. We got a couple of "it'll be soon" updates and one offer to sit at a picnic table on the sidewalk. That wasn't an option for my husband's back. And, by that point, it felt like we'd already had the full sidewalk experience! To add to the frustration, we watched a table that would have fit our party turn over and be given to a group that had arrived well after us. Once seated, things didn't improve much. Our daughter has celiac disease, and after talking through options with our server, she ordered a modified breakfast plate. When it arrived, it had two slices of (gluten-full) toast placed right in the middle. We asked for a remake. While we were waiting someone came over to tell us (firmly) that the kitchen isn't dedicated gluten-free. We fully get that, but that's different from putting bread on top of everything on the plate, especially after we'd already discussed the restriction. As I was saying that, the staff member walked away. The interaction felt more like a lecture than the apology that would've been appropriate. The food overall was okay, but not memorable. My husband said the "special" Bloody Mary was the worst he's ever had--memorable, just not in a good way. On the positive side, the gluten-free coffee cake was excellent, and thankfully the company made the day worthwhile. My guess is there may have been an issue with our reservation. We made it in person previously and it was written in a notebook. When we called to confirm the day before, they initially couldn't find it. It felt like it might not have made it into the system, and they were trying to accommodate on the fly once they realized it. If that's the case, a little transparency upfront would have gone a long way--we would have appreciated the option to adjust our plans rather than end up waiting outside for so long. Overall, this felt like a series of misses and mishandled opportunities to improve the experience. It's also an excellent reminder of why I normally steer clear of dining out on holidays.
