We stopped by pappys greasy spoon in search of a great home style breakfast option in Canby. When we arrived pappys greasy spoon is located in a small shopping mall. There was plenty of parking. Make sure that you bring cash. At the time of our visit they were only accepting cash - there is an atm located across the street. The food was just as you would expect it! Great breakfast and the burgers coming out to guests also looked good! I would pass on the hasbrowns - they lacked seasoning. We will be back! read more

Both food and service were excellent! The ambiance is cute. My country fried steak was excellent with fabulous steak flavor and it was a tender cut of meat. The red potatoes were tender and lightly crispy with browned onions. Nice large over easy eggs that were well cooked. My other half had a meat lovers omelette, hash browns and an English muffin. Unfortunately the food I got tasted like soap, the waitress was kind enough to take it back and swap out the order but I got something cheaper and was still charged for my first order. To be fair they were pretty busy on a Saturday and understaffed but it didn't change the bad experience I had with the food. I've sent back food twice in my whole life and this was one of them. Anytime I took a bite my stomach hurt. The best part is the old American time ambiance of the place. A lot of retro designs, logos and characters across their walls. I've had much better biscuits and gravy from my school cafeteria. no seasoning at all, just a flavorless and strange mystery paste on top of prepackaged tube biscuits. Some people may like it that way(old people) just not for me. the ai generated character on the menu is off putting and slightly disturbing to say the least. read more

Returning from a Wilsonville errand, got the hankering for a pancake and looked up my Yelp help to divert to Pappy's! It's easy to miss on the 2nd Ave as it's hidden on the side of a white building around the corner from the Jui Jitsu club. Crane your neck after that first building and eyeball the American Flag next to a built-up wall sign, Holly Street MALL that looks like only office names would appear, and it's the first door on the right. Prices can't be beat even with the $2.00 increase on Entrees and $1.00 Sides and lotsa home made goodies like the corned beef hash, pork sausage patties, biscuits, etc and lots to choose from and I overheard Pumpkin Bread is on deck! Menus are laminated so you'll see handwritten signs on the front door and inside to notify you of the price increase. THE GRUB Hubby loved loved his sirloin steak about 12oz just $12.50, rare as ordered with nice char grill marks still, sunny eggs, browns, house biscuit and just can't wait to return! Waitress sold me on the Dog Leg $11.00, 2 house sausage patties and eggs (poached soft one was little clear but didn't have to send back) and opted for red home fries which were well seasoned and grilled, so much so hubby ate many when his fork typically turns away! With English Muffin, it was food overload (winge) to add a $4 pancake that I REALLY wanted but tabled for next trip.. COFFEE $2.00 is not bad, like a Farmers Bros brew, forgot to ask..hot and plentiful and stays hot in the standard mugs they use, yes! Those other common off-white concave ones in many breakfast houses just lose heat way too quickly. DECOR is old school black & white checker floor and red diner Coca Cola all about, and the waitress blends in with her tall beehive! This morning my family and I were in the mood for breakfast and didn't want to go to a classic chain restaurant. I ended up finding Pappy's on Yelp and instantly knew that we had to go. From the second you walk in you get a cozy diner and old vintage decor. That right there I knew we found a winner. Staff was friendly and attentive. So this is kinda disturbing my dad and me went there for breakfast and my dad has a service dog that he takes with him and when we went in pappy's to have breakfast He embarrassed us in front of everybody and told us that we had to leave because of the dog which is a certified service dog. read more

I don't normally order biscuits and gravy because I like a little more variety, but I wasn't super hungry. However I wish I was. I could tell that they gravy was homemade. It was nice and smooth. Perfect consistency. The only thing was that I wanted a little more sausage in it. If that sausage was so special it should have been featured more. Instead the most prevalent flavor was black pepper. The biscuits were pretty awesome. Definitely homemade. Nice and soft. Reminded me of my wife's. I would definitely be back to try some other things. I could see that gravy, peppery as it was, on a chicken fried steak. I saw a plate of onion rings and a patty melt. Oooh I want to try that too. Pappy's is a friendly happy restaurant with friendly service great food and plentiful servings. The dining room is decorated with lots of Coke memorabilia it is a happy place. I've been going there enough in the last 5 years I'm now considered a "Regular". That's a first for me. My wife and I eat here about every other month. I have not run the menu as yet, but I have never found anything I didn't like. The prices are more than fair! read more

Terrible breakfast! Hash browns had been sitting forever so they were hard and cold. When they brought me new ones they were undercooked and greasy. Roast was burnt and over buttered. Omelette was ok and waffle was good but whipped cream was not served on side as requested. Waitresses had absolutely no personality. I would never recommend this place or return. read more

Found this breakfast spot on Google while driving through Canby. It was a little hard to find but had signs to help. Had the ham and eggs which were amazing! Probably the best ham I've ever had at a diner. Husband had pork chops and eggs and they were delicious. Prices were amazing and the diner was super cute with a 60's diner feel. One of Canby's breakfast hotspots, Pappy's promises gravy to die for and the friendliest service for miles around. This 50's style diner with a Coca-Cola fetish is straight out of a movie. Oh, I wanted that Chicken Fried Steak. Love the stuff. It does not love me. I've had beautiful affairs with breakfast sandwiches so I went with the McMikie (ham) and added some onions because I was given the awesome power to do so. My companions opted for the French Toast and (yay!) the CFS!!! I got to steal a bite. Breakfast is served all day. Prices run about $8.00-$11.00. Pappy is walking around. He's smiling and shaking hands. He even offered up a few hugs. He's the Santa Claus of diners. How can you not love him and his booming voice?! He's literally one of the most openly jovial and friendliest men I have ever met. Also, he's hilarious. This is turning into more than food. It's becoming a happening. I freaking love it. Biscuits are fresh out of the oven he says. My companion wants one instead of toast. Has he been good? Pappy asks. Yes. Okay, he gets a biscuit. Food was great! This place is the BOMB!! Friend brought me here for the first time a couple weeks ago and I have come back with hubby and another friend since then. Pappy and his crew can cook up a storm! Had Sausage Gravy and biscuits with eggs and link sausage and it was wonderful. The sausage links were to die for, no idea the brand but guessing local. Eggs cooked over medium were cooked to perfection. The Clam Chowder on Fridays is a great fill up for lunch when you get a bowl. Great staff and customers. Oh and the "Take out" Cinnamon roll is huge! He also makes fried Gizzards that my hubby absolutely loves! Cooked to perfection... His words not mine.. They even have seating for a group, so I'd call ahead to see if the back room is open, just in case we beat you there! read more

The biggest surprise is that they haven't been around for ages in this location. They are definitely going for a 50s era all-American diner complete with classic Coca-Cola signage, but it only opened in May of last year. I've visited for breakfast and lunch and enjoyed both meals. This is straight up non-pretentious diner food. Portions are large, prices are reasonable and if Pappy is around, you'll get a little sass with your meal. On my first breakfast visit, Pappy asked if I wanted coffee. When I responded, "No, thanks," he amended to "shot of whisky?" You're getting warmer... I really enjoyed breakfast, because I was the only girl in the place and definitely the only corporate-type. If I'm not mistaken, they open at the crack of dawn (~ 5:30a) and breakfast is served all day. All the other diners in the early morning were men in work boots grabbing a meal before heading out for a long day's work. My first visit was around Christmas time and the local Canby high school carolers came by and treated us all to a song. It just added to the local color and small town feel. Lunch tends to have more of a mixed, but still local, crowd. I've sat at the counter every time and the cook has usually checked in and asked if I liked my meal. Just down the road toward Aurora is the historic Top 'o Hill diner. That is more authentic, but I have to say, my current preference is Pappy's. Lighter, brighter, plus a dash of smartass. read more

The quality ingredients, cooked to order food and down home setting deliver all that you should ever hope to ask for from the classic, made famous in the fifties dinner. I've had their country fried steak now three or four times and they have not disappointed. The wife had eggs Benedict, the thick slices of ham being a great variation. The service is upbeat, quick and efficient. Food is brought out quickly and piping hot. The prices are not the same as the fifties diner but they are not unreasonable in today's market. I went to pappys to try it for the first time with a friend .... We walk in the waiter a young girl doesn't even acknowledge that we're standing there so I just assumed that you just take a seat so we did. She already has an attitude on her face when she comes over to the table and asked what to you want to drink we tell her... she doesn't come back for 15 min. She comes over we order our food and she steps away . 25 min out order is up she brings us our food doesn't say a word and slides it across the table.. at that point I knew there was a issue.. my friends child ordered a chocolate shake the waiter young girl the niece of the owner forgets about the shake. Oh well right she will come around again and ask how we're doing if we need more water. NO 35 min went by without her even acknowledging that we're sitting at the table by that time, I was just waiting to see how long it would take for her to acknowledge us ask us if we need to go boxes etc. nothing I had to walk up to the counter and pay and tell her I'm still waiting on the shake and to just make it to go... she said "fuck" I'm sorry... and took 10 min to make a shake while texting on her phone while making the shake!! Then I walk to the table and ask for a to go box and she doesn't even look at me from across the room and says "there right there" at that point I was highly upset we did nothing but want to try a mom and pop shop but I would highly recommend never coming to the place ever again. You have this young girl running the front that is a reputation of your restaurant the people up front show the customers what the restaurant is all about.
