Before moving to Molalla, I was already looking at the local restaurants. The one that jumped out was Eugene's Hitchin' Post Café. I'm always in search for a great breakfast. After moving to Molalla my wife and I went to the Hitchin' Post. We were not to be disappointed! When eating breakfast out I'm always in search of a great Chicken Fried Steak and hash browns. The Chicken Fried Steak here does not disappoint! Plus, they offer two sizes of Chicken Fried Steak for only a two-dollar difference. Of course, I'm going to pay $2.00 more for twice the size. What also stands out is their hash browns. A different cut of potato than what you typically see. They are fried to perfection! My wife usually gets the pancakes and bacon, and their bacon is incredible! This is not your typical Denny's bacon that you can see through. This is high quality think cut bacon. There are many places you can go to and get a decent breakfast. But Eugene's Hitchin' Post Café really stands out! Stopped in for breakfast with a friend who'd never been to Molalla before. The Hitchin' Post always had decent food so I figured it would be a good choice for an introduction to our small town's food offerings. After sitting down at a table, I realized nobody in the place (except my friend and I) was wearing a mask. Since we were hungry, we decided to stay anyway. I ordered a waffle and she ordered the 2x2x2 (2 eggs scrambled, 2 slices of bacon, 2 pieces of french toast)). Service and food were both decent (as I knew they would be) but nobody was following the Oregon State mandates for pandemic protocols so I won't be back until this virus is under control. Two stars: one for not following the state's pandemic protocols and one for the decent food. read more

Our favorite breakfast place in town. Nothing unique as far as plates, but the bacon is amazing, thick & juicy. The hash browns are crispy & wonderful. The portions are lumberjack size. Truly amazing this morning, family of four comes in (2 kids), sit down and mother proceeds to brush and spray the young daughters hair and fix it all while the wait staff comes and talks to these degenerate locals. Not exactly what you want to have at the next table as you get ready for your $20 breakfast. Disgusting, and then another waitress comes and talks to these people, hey no problem do your kids hair here at the restaurant while people are eating!! There is no respect of anyone in any setting anymore. The wait staff is just as guilty. Liked this place til now, gonna burn the tee shirt I bought from here. read more

It can't get much better then a place where people know each other's name. I've dreamt of living in the country to experience that kind of familiarity and it's been wonderful to walk in and you don't even need a menu they know you so well. Chicken fried steak omelet. Need I say more? No, but I will. Fresh crispy chicken fried steak and cheddar cheese inside a large omelet covered with country gravy with a side of thick cut hash browns. It's massive. I can only eat about half my plate before I'd need to be rolled out of the restaurant. I recommend any items from the breakfast menu however the chicken fried steak omelet is the reason I come back time and again. read more

I used to go there quite often. The food is good but the service is absolutely terrible if you get the young gal. The two older ladies are great, but the younger one is rude, does a half-assed job, ignores customers and will screw up your order more often than not. They would get zero if their food wasn't decent. Customer service is terrible. Their menu under "burgers" says: chilli burger.....$9.59 at the top burgers come with choice of fries. Nowhere does it say chilli served with a burger open faced buried somewhere inside. But yet that's what I got. We live a few mins. Away so my wife called and explained what we were served and the waitress/hostess apologized and said they'll make a new one and what did I want. My wife said just a bacon cheese burger (which is the same price.) She came back on the line and said that the chilli burger is served open face and that's the way it is. If we wanted another we'd have to pay for it. I'm not going back. It's a shame they won't own up to their mistakes. Extremely Poor customer service. read more

American breakfast done right. One of the best classic American breakfasts in the Canby / Molalla area, and huge portions too. I can't eat these big breakfasts very often anymore, but when I do, I opt for the HP's French toast, bacon, and hash browns. I can do my own French toast and bacon just about as well as the Hitchin' Post, but it's the fresh hash browns that I *must have* when I'm there. You can actually taste potato flavor, unlike the frozen strings that so many restaurants use these days. The pancakes are pretty good, too. The name describes the decor, it's a real homey place. I ordered the ham and cheese scramble with hash browns, very tasty and hot. At $14 dollars, it was a little expensive compared to the Midwest. I can get the same for under $8.00 at home, but I find everything in Oregon a little more expensive. The waitress was very nice and quick to take our order, refill coffee and such. Great breakfast to-go! My bacon was about a foot long, cut thick, and great flavor. Nice and big diner hotcakes with the tasty whipped butter and syrup you look for in a great short stack. Eggs overhard and done just right. Probably enough for two breakfasts easily for just $11 but couldn't help eating it all! So glad to find our new breakfast spot. My brother had been raving about their chicken fried steak and we finally had time to go together for breakfast. The food was delicious, until the point I chipped a tooth on a small piece of bone that was in the steak. My sister-in-law informed our server, who did not offer to do anything about it, not even ask me if I was okay. I am in the service industry myself and find that to be completely unprofessional. At the least, our server could have informed the kitchen staff so that they can inspect their steaks more thoroughly before serving them to customers. Mistakes happen, granted, but good customer service should leave your patrons feeling good about themselves, not like they, or the injuries they've suffered, don't matter in the slightest. read more

Rude service. The waitress was mean and yelled because I didn't know what to order after two minutes. They make their food ahead and keep it hot so they are mean if you want to modify. Used to be good and now they have gone way down hill. I won't go again. My wife and I frequent a lot of local businesses in Molalla. This place will Never be one of them again. When we stepped inside we waited to be directed where we could sit because of all this Social Distancing. Now all of you that have been there know how small it is. They were less than half full this Sunday morning at 9:30 We stood about -10 minutes before the workers stopped ignoring us and were told we could sit anywhere we wanted. The waitress spent her time shooting the bull with a family and Completely ignored us. We sat patiently but time passed and we never were waited on. One lady spent her time on to go orders which we understood. But the waitress who was ignoring us finally started answering the phone taking more to go orders and kept ignoring us.My wife who is much more patient than me finally said Loudly THIS IS BULLSHIT So we left. We don't expect anyone to kiss our back side Especially if they are busy. But to ignore customers like we were ignored is a business killer. The food Might be good But the help leaves a lot to be desired. I will make sure to pass the word around about this business. I like this place, but I can only comment on breakfast and lunch. The food is standard all American, ya know, a little bit greasy like most home cookin' diners, but still satisfactory and at good prices. I do have to say that I want to shower after ever visit because I feel sticky from syrup and feel like my hair smells like bacon/breakfast potatoes.... Last time I was there I got the sweet potato waffle. It was surprisingly good. The pancakes and hash browns are good, too. I've even got lunch there, and it was ok, but not as satisfying as the breakfast and I wouldn't return for lunch. What really makes this place good is the customer service. They are unbelievably nice and friendly inside. If you come during rush hour breakfast time on a weekend it can take a little bit to get your food, but only because there are so many people there to enjoy the atmosphere (and theres like no other restaurants in Molalla). My friend wanted to know if their raisins had sulfates. She asked our waitress and the waitress brought out the bag of raisins that they use and let my friend read the bag and decide if it was satisfactory. It was so helpful! Had breakfast with a client on Tuesday morning. There was a $4.95 special that sounded great: one egg, one bacon or sausage, hash browns and a pancake. It was such a value, and absolutely delicious. Everything cooked PERFECTLY! The bacon at this place is like no bacon I've had anywhere--so big and thick and tasty....you definitely have to get the bacon here if you are a bacon lover! The coffee cup was topped off at least half a dozen times while we were there. My husband and I try to come in for breakfast on Sundays when you can get a HUGE slice of amazing Prime Rib, two eggs, hash browns, and toast for about $12! We take most of it home and enjoy it for dinner, too! Quick, friendly service. The waitresses are always at a run, and the cooks in the back often come out to refill coffee and water glasses. Friendly, country-cowboy ambiance...the locals fill this place up and the happy banter makes for a nice atmosphere. I made a couple of new friends waiting for my client! The owner, Jill, often cooks, but comes out and says Hello to the patrons when she can, and sincerely thanks them for coming in with her big, friendly smile! The decor is cowboy/rodeo/country, very homey and humble. This is the perfect small-town, hole-in-the-wall local restaurant with amazing breakfasts and lunches. The dinners are probably great, too, in a way of burgers and such, but I haven't had the opportunity to join them for an evening meal.
