From the beginning, Beatrix fell in love with Gymnastics Connection. She has been doing gymnastics since she was 3, but all she remembers now is the Gymnastics Connection. She loves the open gyms, the instruction (cried when we couldn't afford two lessons a week, so I applied for scholarships), and she loves the coaches. After the spring showcase last year, she said she wanted to be a gymnast when she grew up. If I have obligations before or after class, Beatrix is able to sit with them an extra few minutes with a snack until I wade through traffic to get there. Above and beyond, one of the best experiences we have had in Seattle. From front desk (Stephanie Kyla) to Coach Maddy, Coach Megs, Coach Monica... stellar experience. They never turned their noses up to us when the credit card didn't go through. They made us feel like Beatrix belonged there as much as the other kids who don't need scholarships or second, third, fourth credit cards. We love you. We thank you. I wish I could give you guys so much more, but right now, all I can say is you made a positive difference in our lives. Thank you!

COVID-Review: We have been part of this wonderful community for several years but this is a review…read moreabout the current accommodations this gym has made in light of COVID. My family has adhered to the closures and restrictions very closely. When Gymnastics Connection announced that they would be running several week-long summer camps as well as daily-mini-mid-day camps we were excited but apprehensive. We really weren't sure how they would pull this off in an indoor, active environment. I spoke to the owner of the gym and was impressed with how they were reorganizing their space, program and activities to accomodate appropriate health standards. For various reasons, we decided to try it out. It was a RAGING SUCCESS. I was so impressed with how they truly went above and beyond to maintain the fun-social environment but also keep everyone healthy. In addition to what I now consider 'typical' precautions: check-in and check-out were done outdoors, there was a designated one-way system to move around the entire space and everyone followed arrows on the floor, new hypo-allergenic carpet, color-coded cubbies for students to store their things (which also look super cute), and staff constantly wiping down equipment between students using it. I did not see any kids come within 6 ft of each other because the entire class was taught in a way that allowed the kids to follow the social distancing guidelines without really having to think about anything other than listening to their coaches. During the closure, the gymnastic connection has also been running zoom classes. Its amazing how much they have been able to mimic the class without all of the gym equipment of the facility. At a time when life is upsidedown for my kids - it means the world to them to be able to connect with familiar coaches.

Think twice before you trial any competitive program here…read more Our daughter spent two years on team and almost quit the sport entirely. In her last season she experienced retaliation from a coach, emotionally immature leadership, and conduct that violated their own handbook. When concerns were raised by multiple families, ownership declined to meet and responded with: "We believe we can move forward from here and work towards a positive season." Our daughter was eight years old. She lost confidence. She lost skills. Schedules changed constantly. Classes were added mid-season at an extra cost because, in their own words, they had too many girls to teach new routines at once. The list goes on. If you do choose to trial, ask about attrition. We are aware of at least five or six girls leaving a team of fifteen this season alone. That speaks volumes. Competitive gymnastics demands clear communication and genuine investment in every child. You will not find that here.

The facility is beautifully updated with new equipment that is used well by the coaches to help teach the fundamentals and build a solid physical foundation. The gym is clean, inviting, and absolutely buzzing with activity. It's so fun watching all the different levels giving it their all and having a blast. We loved the coach, and watching from the observation area, I was really impressed with the caliber of instruction and serious, but genuinely kind manner. As a parent, this was a valuable opportunity for my child to try new, challenging things and also to grow in grit and confidence. We loved it! The only reason I knocked off a star is that they do mandatory rolling enrollment, basically an auto pay type situation. They allow you to opt out under certain conditions, and the staff are really nice, but it would be nice if they offered an option to do one session at a time for the beginning classes, especially.

Then there was a change in management, which also brought new front desk staff. We have a young child who, before the management change, was allowed to sit on the edge of the mat about 15 feet away and would try to do the moves along with the class. With the old staff, we got an understanding smile and some pleasant conversation. Now? Condescending looks accompanied by comments like, "We'll have to charge you for another lesson if your child is on the floor." It's ATROCIOUS working with Advantage now. Here's what you can look forward to: 1) Frequent unanswered calls with no attempts to reply to voicemail 2) Billing issues (always in the gym's favor) 3) A lack of empathy/understanding/customer service 4) The greediest gym I've ever worked with Seriously, if the coaches weren't solid, we'd run away and never look back.

The registration can be difficult as well with obtaining your desired times. The do offer makeup sessions which is wonderful as gymnastics classes aren't cheap. They hardly have anyone picking up the phones so email/in-person may be your best bet and even then emails can take a day or two and there isn't always someone there at the front desk for in-person chats. There are some instructors that aren't gymnasts themselves. For the younger classes, they hire anyone that is interested in teaching but may not have any gymnastics experience at all.

I am not sure if all coaches are the same but our experience with this particular coach wasn't pleasant at all and we did not see any improvement in our child.

We went as a small group of kids to try out a class on a Sat afternoon. Kids were exhausted after! They loved the fact that they got to learn from Tim Schnee who has competed on American Ninja Warrior 5 times. My son was really wanting to do the ramp like his friend and Tim was right there giving him pointers and cheering him on. The next run my son nailed it and was super proud. I love the enthusiasm the staff had for the activities. In the past, places that had activities even like this seemed to be run by high school kids who weren't really even interacting with kids. This was a legit professionally run ninja place. They set up a course that was challenging yet had all levels incorporated. There were short cuts built in to it. At the end they even had a green button/buzzer the kids could use to signal they completed the course. There's a bathroom and water fountain right there next to the course. No need to go outside at all into the 24 hour fitness area for anything. Lots of bench seating available for parents. If we weren't so stuck with sports on the weeknights and weekends already we'd sign up for the 6 week class. For now, I think it will be our new bday party spot or coming back for a drop in time. Thanks Tim for getting the kids pumped up today and making em all feel like real ninja warriors! Will def be back.

During hanging and obstacle exercises, there were moments when children needed help but no coach was nearby to assist or spot them safely. For a ninja-style program involving climbing, swinging, and elevated obstacles, consistent supervision and equal attention to all children should be a basic expectation. What was also disappointing was the lack of concern or follow-up when we chose to withdraw. No one asked why we were leaving or seemed interested in understanding our experience, which left us with the impression that parent feedback and individual student experiences were not being taken very seriously. For parents considering this program, I would recommend paying close attention not only to the facility itself, but also to how consistently all children are supervised, guided, and included during class.

When I came here growing up, Cascade was a frequently used word in my social sphere (name of a swim club some of my friends were interested in and my grandad volunteered on trails in the Cascade Mountains). In terms of my artistic gymnastic abilities, I was naturally flexible and high energy. I managed to surprise my family/friends that it did not translate to gymnastics ability. As part of a group, we went through and tried different apparatus to the best of our abilities, I was best at bars and worst at floor. I had/have a fear of falling and for some reason that flared up in my not being able to do a cartwheel (fear of falling flat on my face), however an interest in bars (where fear of falling was overcome by apparatus coolness). My time here was short lived in part because of my not quite taking to it, the workers/instructors were kind and understanding both in my taking part and withdrawing/not continuing.

The feedback from coaches was inconsistent, the coaches kept changing every week. Spring session, there was feedback posted on our online account, but during fall session time there was no feedback, the only communication you get is about strict registration process. Just feels like money pit not really about kids making progress. My daughter lost interest, she switched to different sport.
