My experience with Ethan Allen was impeccable ... until recently.
Let us start with the furniture: you will get good dinning room, living room furnitures for sure. The coach are firm and stand the passage of time (mine is 7+ years old and looks like and feels like new, well worth the initial investment). Wood furnitures are real solid wood that are both beautiful visually and with a perfect tactile sensation.
My initial experience with the staff was a satisfying experience: I had a nicely educated and calm woman who was so nice, advised me well, came to measure my home and made a design plan and outstanding suggestion. I could not ask for better or more top notch service. The furnitures were delivered within the expected time frame and all went pretty well. It felt like I was in good care from start to end. My recent experience has been rather orthogonal to that (causing an abrupt drop on my rating which would otherwise be "as good as it gets" / that bad!) - the store manager took care of my case and, for a sales person, was at the border of being rude IMO. Cold and impermeable to discuss a mutually beneficial bargain: I was after all facing a 20% off a month ago (store special sale), told the sale person I will come back a month later, was told I would still find bargains and discount when I come back from my trip ... so no rush (sure, it was not clear that the bargain would be the same) ... to then be told when I came back that the 20% are now off the table. That store manager was inflexible and even pushed to argued with the customer (me) that she too needs to earn money and profits and this is a take it or leave it, make up your mind. This was not said with a joke-oriented tone but accompanied with all the body language of nervousness and anger with elevated tone. From a customer stand point, my argument seemed sound and I have rarely experienced sales person being so unprofessional in their answers (the professional way to handle a "no way" would have been with a joke and smile, not with anger and snappy answers). As a result, I ended purchasing 1/2 of what I intended. In short, if you shop there, stay away from the store manager (there are plenty of sale people there with nicer disposition), the furniture are still worth the aggravation. read more
