100/10!! I have been coming to Essnails for years and it's the only place I go to get my nails done. Kim has been doing my nails forever and knows what I like. She knows everyone by name when they walk in the salon and makes the place very welcoming. I have never had a bad nail day when coming here. I actually cannot count how many people compliment my nails from my patients to checkout clerks. I used to get acrylic with tips but my nails were healthy and long enough to do dip. Loved both but am now in love with the way Essnails does dip. I'm not great at taking photos of my nails but there's an example of something a tad more time consuming vs just some glitter, they can really do it all! read more

I went there once for a dip manicure. They sanded down my natural nails terribly and the dip manicure was very thick and odd shaped. When I went to another salon to have it removed it revealed not just deformed nails now but what looks like a nail fungus that now I am dealing with. I think I will just do my nails at home from now on vs. risking damage like what happened there. read more

I had a great experience as a walk in. Tried a place really close to my house initially, and they were full, and I remembered this place during my Starbucks runs. At 1p on a Friday, they were able to get me in immediately. Went for my usual gel pedicure, and it was great. Tammy listened to what I needed, a trim with white gel, and it was exactly what I got. Several coats of white, it was even, and she made sure to trim my nails to a great, short length. She even made sure to paint really close to my cuticle, and overall, they looked awesome! I'm positive these guys will last the 2 months that I can usually go without another pedicure. A gel pedicure will run 50$. My nail technician was probably the least friendly, least kind person I have ever had at a nail salon. She never spoke to me and didn't even say hello when I first sat down. I will NEVER BE BACK What kind of seething distain and disrespect does your business have for your customers, who are paying a premium price for a non-spa nail salon?!! I mean usually they help move your purse or shoes to the next station--she didn't offer, she didn't even tell me where I could put my belongings. She made me feel UNCOMFORTABLE. I didn't wear my own flip flops so I'm limping around trying not to dislodge the tissue between my toes... New in town, and the experience I had at this salon today tops as the worst I've ever experienced at a nail place. I usually don't do reviews but I'm in so much pain now that I need to write this review. I had booked with a lady named Kim. She was extremely rushed and didn't take her time with my nails a t a l l ! She rushed through things and hurt me with the drill several times, cutting my skin and poking her nails into my cuticles to separate skin from being stuck from the acrylic and it started to bleed on several spots. She told me to put neosporin on at home and it would be ok (!?) I have a throbbing pain in my fingers now, and cut open spots, and some of them, I noticed as I came home. She rushed so much and dropped her tools and didn't take her time to make sure she wasn't hurting me, and it was because of how extremely rough she was. I was on needles the whole appointment so she wouldn't hurt me more. I'm extra sensitive and have a sensitivity to UV lights because of an old infection that I got from situation like this, I was cut at a nail place. I told her about my sensitivity, but she honestly sighed and made me feel like i was being difficult. She basically sighed and rushed the whole appointment. The website quoted me 15 for a soak off and 45 for a full new set. I was charged 70 because my nails were a certain length? Has never happened to be before. I want yo pay what the service cost and don't mind paying more for extra good results, but this was seriously awful. I hate a have to leave a review like this, but working in service myself, we have to take care of our new clients because that's who pays our bills, and I had been looking forward to this appointment for a while to get my new nails. Nails are also uneven, but i can fix that myself. The worst part is the pain and the concern that I could get an infection in my fingers which I have experienced in the past. Ok, I've been a regular for a hottt minute, but lemme tell you, these ladies know what's up: I moved to this area roughly 2-years ago and was immediately greeted by Kim #bossbabe. She remembers everyone's appointments and ensures that all customers are taken care of within a reasonable amount of time. So let's talk about my tech, Chue.... this is my numerous uno. I have asked her to do some crazy designs and often times, will go with things she knows will work for MY nails. Thanks to her, I'm a true believer in the dipping powder and the strength and the length that its given to my nails. Needless to say, hit my girls up. This is by far the worst nail salon I've been to in town. They charge for regular steps of a manicure. For example, $8 for filing your nails into a shape, something that is standard for every other place I've been in this area. Aside from the not-worth-it $73 dip manicure, I had to endure unprofessional high-school-clique like behavior from the immature staff. No need to waste your time or money when you have so many great options of places to go. Also, they do not disclose what they are charging you during the manicure process until it's time to pay - so things that are a normal part of a manicure suddenly become an add-on service that you were unaware you were going to be charged for. Very deceptive business practices. Update: See the owner's response below for an example of the treatment you will receive there. Also, I was accurate about the things they charge for that are standard in a dip manicure at nearly every salon in the area (dip removal, filing to shape) - I did not request any artwork. I think it is obvious from Kim's response who had the attitude at the salon and it wasn't me. I was uncomfortable at the way I was being treated and therefore, pretty quiet (not that they cared, they were only caring to talk to each other, not get to know a potential new client). The manicure outcome is something I could get for $30 less (before tip) at most area salons, not something you would pay a premium for. I will agree with her: NOT A GREAT FIT. This is by far the best nail salon in Olathe and in Overland Park. They were so professional and they are very accommodating. I recommended my husband to go to this place for a pedicure and he loves it since he's had surgery on his feet, they are very careful and gentle unlike other salons. I switch back & forth between dip and acrylic nails, with extensions. I've been driving here clear from downtown KC for the last few months because I FINALLY found a nail place that does a good job. I honestly didn't know my nails could possibly look so good until I started coming here. I see Missy, and she does an awesome job every time, but I have heard from a friend that's been coming here longer than I have that every nail tech she's been paired with has the same level of skill. I went there today for eyebrow and lip wax. I ended up leaving bleeding. I have never had an issue waxing. Have been being waxed since 1993. The girl was vey sorry about ripping the skin off my lip and didn't make me pay for that. I get home and realize that i have burns and skin missing from my eyebrows. I decide to call and ask for the remaining money back. Instead of being sympathetic they proceed to ask if i am on retinol which i am not. I suggested that they maybe turn their pot down and she basically told me it was just me. I am furious at this point. If you want to keep the skin intact on your face i highly suggest not going there. read more

This place do not know how to give customer service! This has never happened to me before in many other places I've went. I communicate by handwriting. They apparently do not understand English. I asked for an oil hand massage and manicure. The lady asked me if I meant French tip, and I said yes. But apparently what I wanted they called it a set. I even showed them a picture of what I wanted. So when I realized they'd misunderstood me, I tried to explain and correct the situation. The woman who was clearly in charge had horrible attitude and made me feel disgusting. In the end, they corrected the situation, but refused to allow me to pay only for the "set," saying they'd done two services, and that I was to pay $50. I wish I could just walk out and not pay, but at least I had some respect. And I grew so tired of their stubbornness and because of their mistake I ended up staying there an an hour and half, making me late for a meeting. So I paid. That was a $50 wasted, and I wish I never tried this place. The only redeeming quality of this place was the guy who ended up doing my set. He did it beautifully and wonderfully! I had been going to EssNails for over 5 years and I've referred numerous people to this salon. I've always had a great experience. The past year primarily I've popped in for a walk-in appointments - I was not able to make a scheduled appointment with how inconsistent my work schedule had been. During those times of me walking in, I've always experienced horrible customer service from Kim. Unfortunately, she's the one answering the phones and greeting at the door. I gave her the benefit of the doubt given the circumstances of the past year and any hardship the salon may have endured during the pandemic, but it's unacceptable to treat customers that way. I referred a good friend of mine to EssNails and she walked in recently for a pedicure and experienced the same thing. Great services, but disappointing customer service. read more

I was so excited to try the "dip manicure" my friend and I were looking for a new place (neither of us had been often for mani/pedi appointments in the past and didn't have a local salon we liked) so we checked online, then called and made an appointment for a few days later. The woman on the phone didn't even want to take out names for the appointment let alone any contact information, I took the first 2 side-by-side appointments they had for 2 dip mainicures, gave her our names and she hung up. We arrived for our appointment only to be told we didn't have one. After much discussion (not in English in front of us) the agreed to "squeeze us in". We couldn't sit next to each other though, despite there being open stations throughout the shop. They acted like they were doing us a favour after losing our reservations. My friend had a full manicure, soaked hands, massage, cuticles trim, lotion- and the dip done- the man doing my nails didn't even trim the obvious cut cuticle- no soak, no lotion, no massage. He left powder all over my clothes and skin. They also do dip differently than most places- they did dip and then gel over the top, it doesn't look near as nice as the other dip manicures ive seen on my friends from other salons. Maybe I got a bad manicurist, but my French manicure is wonky, the nails are very thick, and he didn't clean up around the edges (I left with polish and dip crust on my skin). Upside, the place uses clean equipment, they did offer me a room temp bottle of water ....and there's a Starbucks near by so you can go enjoy your mediocre manicure with some over priced coffee. $55 and an hour and a half out of my Friday girls day I won't be getting back. My new favorite nail salon! I got the cat eye gel polish done this last time and LET ME TELL YOU! Giiiiirrrrlllll. I explained to the girl that did my nails that I've had terrible experiences with gel polish and it peeling off almost immediately, lasting maybe A day and you know what? She listened to me and did a different technique to apply the gel. I got them done Saturday and it's now Tuesday, My nails still look goooooood! Usually my nails would be ugly and naked with gel. At first, when they opened ,they were caring, nice, and ready to do good customer care with their service. The dip fill was done nicely today by Sam. Few months ago Kim (manager/ owner) was rude answering my questions while I was having nail done by her. I booked with other ladies to do my nails afterwards without any issues. Today I was charged $8 extra, and I asked the reasoning. The answer did not match the price tag they advertise. I did not have chip, but they said I had chip, then they said that last month whoever have done my nails ( which is essnails), did it too thin, so I have to pay the price for it. It is them who did my nails last month and this time I got overcharged. It's the principle they played with me. I wished I knew why Kim is cordial to some and not all. I wonder why she chooses and picks the new rules with certain customers. I was so happy thinking I have found my go to nail salon. But Kim's manner make me think twice. I had chipped dip before and was charged $5 for each nail, which I paid, but today it was inconsistent of what I got charged, and how rude Kim was. read more

This use to be my go to nail place when they opened. I moved to Lawrence in '15 so I haven't been back until Friday afternoon. My sister and I scheduled two pedicures at 3:30. You would think having an appointment at a certain time you wouldn't have to wait 20 minutes after that time. I went to essnails on Thursday and had a great experience, Vivian did an amazing job on my acrylic French tip nails. Unfortunately I hit my hand very hard 2 days later resulting in a broken nail. I returned on Sunday to have the nail fixed expecting everything to be easy and simple. To start, the lady doing my nails (I'm unsure of her name) attempted to dig her fingernail in between my nail and the acrylic nail to pull it off, rather than soaking it, so hard that I had to yank my hand away. Even after mentioning that she should soak off the nail she continued to pull it off. She rushed which I didn't understand because she only had to do one nail which would have not taken long at all, and even after all of that when I looked down at the nail,the shape was uneven and the gel polish was clumpy in places. The lady was nice but I definitely think she needs to learn patience to ensure quality work for the amount they charge.
