I have been going to Essence Nails for over 30 years. My nails are always amazing. Each session, the team does a unique ring and middle finger design that is awesome. I ALWAYS get compliments on my nails, and I NEVER get chips on the color (I do gel manicures and pedicures). The staff is very accommodating, friendly, and most importantly, professional. I have been coming to Essence since they first opened and I love it there. They make it a very personable and enjoyable experience every time. I get the UV gel fills and my nails always look great for weeks! They keep it very clean and every girl to do my nails is always sweet and welcoming. I don't get my nails done often, however when I do, I get a regular manicure at this place. I like how clean it looks. I especially love that they have me wash my hands upon entering and they put a hot towel on it afterwards. It's easy to get an appointment. read more

I am extremely disappointed by the lack of professionalism displayed by the establishment. I got my nails done for my engagement party last Thursday (was charged $100 for ombré acrylics) which I accepted because it was a special occasion. They used a sponge technique that showed bubbles throughout the transition of colors. I've gotten ombré before and this was not how it was done. I had to go back Sunday (the day of my party) because a nail fell right off. When I went in at opening hours, I explained my situation and asked if someone could fix a nail that fell off after 3 days. I was simply told by a worker, who stood toward the middle of the salon, that nobody was available so I asked when they would be, which was rudely answered with "maybe an hour." I walked back in with my fiancé and it was then when they changed their tone and mannerisms toward me and sat me down for a fix. I bypassed their rudeness as to not ruin my day, but it did not sit well with me that it took walking in with someone to be taken seriously. It has been exactly a week since I got the set done and 4 acrylics from my left hand cracked and fell off! I saw many reviews after my service that this is a norm for them and prayed it didn't happen to me . It's insane that in a very well to do area that they use cheap crapppy products and put in on with a smile. Then when you go back to fix them they charge you for their mistakes. Lesson learned. I was totally ripped off! When I tried to talk to her, she just kept yelling "good-bye, good-bye". I made an appointment on Sunday for today (Tuesday), showed up at the exact time of my appointment, and waited 15 minutes in the chair with no one to do the pedicure. Phenomenal experience last night at Essence. Sam, the owner has done it again. She is always fastidious at keeping her place spotless but now the cleanliness and sanitizing are at a whole new level. What a complete pleasure to be welcomed at the door and checked in by appointment only. No gathering. A quick temp check and sanitized pens to check in. Hand sanitizing, hand washing, plexi glass partitions and a competent friendly staff make Essence a stand out. A relaxing mani/pedi for my husband and myself. I went today for a spa pedicure. It was the worst pedicure I have ever gotten. I believe her name was Joyce. The spa pedicure is $20 more and it sure was not worth it. The girl next to me was having a regular pedicure and she had a better quality pedicure then mine for sure. It started with her filing my skin along with my nails and coming close to cutting me with the cuticle scissor. She seemed to be in a rush for unknown reason because place was empty. Proceeded to go sit in a chair when she was done with me. She put the empty envelopes of the lavender cream that she had quickly rubbed on and off my legs in to water tub. Essence Nails & Spa is a large, clean and tastefully-decorated new-to-the-neighborhood nail salon. It is SO close to my home that I decided to cheat on my usual nail salon and check them out. Well, I am not switching salons because my manicure and pedicure at Essence were "eh". I got the regular manicure/pedicure ($25) and there's nothing about either that's worthy of mentioning. Except maybe that there's no sort of massage during the manicure and pedicure - which I had thought was standard practice. Also, they barely removed my cuticles so if you're like me and have crazy cuticle buildup, I would recommend you go elsewhere. I'll end my review with what my husband said about my manicure when he got home that day: They did an okay job. Not all of your nails are painted evenly and I can see lines. (My nail polish was Essie's Minimalistic which I would label nude and sheer.) P.S. My nails began to show signs of wear and started to chip 4 days after the manicure. read more

Essence Nails continues to be my favorite place to get my nails done in Commack. Everytime I visit home I make sure to get an appointment with Jay. The salon remains impeccably clean, and the service amazing. I came in for a gel manicure and regular pedicure and Jay was a total professional despite the state of my feet after a 5 day work conference spent in heels. I have feet again instead of bear paws! Hooray! The color choices for gel manicures have expanded too, which I really appreciate. Essence keeps up with color trends which is a nice bonus. 5 out of 5, over a year later! read more

Unfortunately I have to give this place 1 star cause there is not an option for 0. I had been going here for a long time with no problems but the last 2 time I went I had nail fungus under my UV gel nails. They said it was my fault for having fungus and it had been growing for weeks. I've never had nail fungus in my life till I came here and I highly doubt that my covered nails just decided to grow fungus without the right conditions to grow. I had the nails removed so I could get rid of it and they used the same tools they use on everyone else on the nails I had fungus on. I was appalled. Now I know how I got it. I just moved here and this was my first visit. I was not happy with how I was treated when I walked in the door. I completely understand we are living in a pandemic but you can't expect new people to know your specific rules the second they walk in the door. I was yelled at to immediately use the hand sanitizer the second I walked in the door. Then I could barely hear that I had to wash my hands right after I used the hand sanitizer? I have no problem with this, but I would appreciate being asked nicely not yelled at. I go to the nail salon to relax and this ruined my day. When I asked to have my nails cut during my pedicure I got an attitude and then I realized after I left my nail that I specifically needed cut wasn't cut even. Incredibly disappointed with Essence. I went to Essence on Wednesday, September 30th to get a powder manicure. I wanted to try somewhere new. They charged me $45 for the manicure which I felt was pricy compared to some other nail spas. On the following Sunday (10/4) all of my nails had hairline cracks in them and by that Monday two of my nails had the powder cracking off. I went back to Essence on Tuesday (10/6) to have the manicure taken off and explained that I just wanted them removed. The woman told me it would be $10 to have the manicure removed and that I needed to have a regular manicure that cost $15 once they were taken off. I explained that I thought this was ridiculous because I had gotten the powder manicure less than a week ago and paid $45 for it and was upset how they quickly fell apart (typically they last 3-4 weeks for me). All she would do was give me a $5 discount and said I would still have to pay $20 to have them removed and a regular manicure and gave me an attitude throughout so I ended up leaving and going to a different spa. I am very disappointed with how the situation was handled given how pricey the salon can be - they also did not apologize for the quality of the manicure. I will not be returning. read more

I have been here a few times, when I come home to visit my folks. It's a big, busy place. First time I came, I sat for over an hour soaking the gel manicure off that I had done back where I live. I sat that long because for some reason, they couldn't take it off. They told me it was acrylic...which it wasn't...and then they told me they used a poor quality gel polish on me, and that is why they couldn't get it off. It left my nails paper thin, and took me months to grow out. This was in August...had them done for a bridal shower. It was in a panic for them to grow and strengthen because my brother's wedding was in October, and I was in the bridal party. How is it going to look with the beautiful dress, hair and makeup...and crappy nails. I bought product after product to try to strengthen them in time. Ok, fine. I knew that gels weakened the nail, but they never hurt and bent like they did, and I deduced that it was due to these people stripping layers of nail off trying to remove it, and the long soak in acetone. Ok...so I went back for a gel manicure on another trip back home. What struck me this time was this: they brought out the instruments in a sealed paper envelope used when things are sterilized. I did not see an autoclave anywhere in the room. Ok sure...they can have it in the back. For those of you who are not in the medical field or who don't know, there are 2 little arrows on these envelopes, they are usually pink or blue. When the envelope is sealed, and the instruments in them are put into the autoclave for sterilization, one of the arrows stays pink (or blue) as a control, and the other one turns brown. This is how you know it has completed the sterilization process. I checked. I physically picked up the envelope and looked. There was no brown arrow. It was never sterilized, never placed into an autoclave. So this means they are trying to fool their customers into thinking they are using sterilized instruments. This blows my mind. I cannot be the only medical professional who walks in there. I have been to many other places. Some soak the instruments in alcohol or some chemical, some use the UV light, but they are not pretending to sterilize the instruments or trying to pull the wool over people's eyes. It is the lying, and taking people for fools that I have a problem with. I will not set foot in there again on principle. Oh, and that gel manicure that I had done was chipped and coming off after 2 days. read more

Extremely disappointed. Went at 10:00am 30 minutes after they opened and they were already disorganized. I went with my mom and we weren't greeted when we walked in. We had to speak first and say what we wanted. Color gel was 30$ (it is 25$ everywhere else I go). They don't use OPI color gel and they tried to tell me my color was the same and it was not. As soon as another customer came in my lady (cindy) started rushing. My nails were done in 23 minuets. The fastest they have ever been done. She did not do a good job with my cuticles and she rushed when putting on the polish. Only thing I liked was the warm towel they put on my back. OH and no mini massage while my color gel was drying. My mom liked her pedicure but I was not happy with color gel or their customer service. read more

I was impressed upson entering since they seemed busy and it was a nice looking place. After that I was disappointed. I got a gel powder and pedicure. The woman came to the pedicure chair and very abruptly said what you do you want. Not a hello or anything of the sort. She was very rough and it was not enjoyable or relaxing. She also did only two coats of polish and when I got home I noticed it was completely see through and I chose a dark grey. Within two days they were chipping. The same woman did the gel powder. That night two of them chipped and within a day 6 had cracks all throughout the nails. I get gel all the time and they last perfectly for 3 weeks. 2 weeks later now I have not only chips but 5 of my nails broke. I am going back to my regular place a week earlier than usual to get them done. Also I paid $15 dollars more than I normally do. Theyre expensive. I was also there for over 2 hours she didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. I have been wanting to try this place for so long. I will not return. read more

I have been coming here for the past three years. The staff is amazing! So sweet they go out of their way to accommodate you! Tina is beyond words. Her waxing is so clean and perfect no pain. She always ask am I ok?, is the wax too hot ect. She gives the best mani pedi. The salon is so clean and sanitized. Mist probably shut down Bc of shitty and cheap service and their thinned out polish. You get what you pay for at the end of the day. My nails last two weeks and I don't do gel. read more
