The bakery items were exceptional. The staff were very helpful. The reason for 4 stars was due to bathroom being down, espresso machine being down and the political atmosphere. The special breakfast croissant was great, but our favorites were the chocolate almond croissant and the oat cakes. We even took a baguette home - fantastic

Visited Essence Bakery on a Friday for a late lunch. We ordered the Quiche, Pot Pie a baguette and two macaroons. The Quiche was good but the side salad had almost no dressing and overall it was a small portion for the price. The same can be said about the pot pie. I would have liked a little more flavor and another piece of chicken or two. The macaroons were the star. Although $4.50 each, it is worth the try. Highly recommend the Meyer Lemon variety. BTW, the lemonade appeared to be right out of the Milo's brand gallon. Expected fresh squeezed for $4.25 a glass. The location is nice but the tables need to be replaced since most of them are damaged. Overall, recommendation is to skip lunch and order just the bakery items. "FIMP" Food is my Passion

09/13/2025 Essence makes my favorite macarons in AZ! The taste and texture are unmatched by any other AZ bakery. Ever since they closed down their Tempe location and only have the Arcadia location, I don't go as much. But recently they had my favorite weekend brunch special, so I invited some family to have brunch there with me. The special ($18.95) included: Organic Quinoa Hash with Bacon, Summer Squash & Yukon Gold Potatoes, served with Organic Fried Eggs and Gruyere Cheese Croissant. I love dipping the cheesy croissant into the runny egg yolks! A family member doesn't like cheese, and instead ordered "The Big Breakfast" ($16.25) from the regular breakfast menu - Organic Scrambled Eggs served with Mashed Potato Cake, Breakfast Sausage, Sautéed Mushrooms, and Homemade Buttered Toast with Jam. This dish looked really good too. The espresso macaron had great flavor. My go-to macarons are the organic vanilla and strawberries & cream. Pumpkin (seasonal) is also really good too. Their almond croissant is my favorite, but they were already sold out by the time we got there around 9am! Next time I'll be sure to get there earlier. Tip: If you want to get a weekly email with their specials for the week and weekend, subscribe to their email newsletter. Otherwise, the specials are also on their website.

Always delicious! My friend and I came here for brunch and of course it was a bit busy but we found seats at the counter and our food was ready pretty quickly. The pastries are excellent. I also enjoyed a strawberry macaron.

Tried out this bakery for the first time today. We arrived early on a Sunday and there was still a good selection of pastries. Ordered a hot mocha & almond chocolate croissant. My daughter had an iced Carmel latte & pistachio croissant. Both pastries were delicious! The barista that made & delivered our drinks was very pleasant. Cafe is very clean with plenty of seating options. This place is definitely worth checking out & we will be returning in the future!

The breakfast sandwich and passion fruit croissant were good ..... the coffee was "citrusy" and the service was less than spectacular ...... no smiles and less than friendly. 2 1/2 stars

    Sunday, July 2nd, 2023 - Mini Macaron ($2)
    Elena N.

Date: Sunday, July 2nd, 2023 Time: around 12:15pm Reason: Macarons I adore french macarons. Whenever I'm on vacay, I always search bakeries to see if there's a new place that sells them. (Well new to me.) I was having brunch down the street and decided to swing by here first to grab some treats. Unfortunately, I think this is a breakfast spot, so there were not a lot left. I believe I just grabbed one of each flavor and a coffee. The mini macarons were $2 each while the normal sized one - French Chocolate Macaron was $4.25. Texture wise, they had a slight chew. Tho they were very airy and crumbled / broke easily. I can't recall the flavors that day, but I think one of them was lemon which was probably my fav. I adore tart desserts / sweets. I read a lot of good things about their macarons. If I ever find myself in the area early, I'll definitely stop by to see if they have more of a selection then. REVIEW #3459

Almond claw bar is the BEST I've had in Phoenix. Great friendly environment to have some coffee and relax.

Great croissants. Everything else looked good but I only got a croissant, a fruit danish and a chocolate croissant. They were all perfect.

Ask the Community - Essence Bakery Cafe

Your pastries are amazing, can you make morning buns?

Do you have pastel color macaroons?

We do, but the production is not regular, it depends on what the kitchen is up to, so the best thing is stop by and see what we have that day. We are open Wednesday through Sunday 6:30am through 2:00 pm.

Is the Indian School location closed for good?

No, we are just closed until March 31st, we are still a bit short on staff, and since the owners are away for family reasons, they decided to give some time off to the staff, one week more or less. Essence will reopen on Thursday March 31st, 6:30am… Read more

    Do they serve alcohol?

Unfortunately, we do not serve alcohol. But the rest is pretty damn good. Have a good one.

Lots of parking in the garage and I'm pretty sure it's free. Went in through the back entrance and the space is bright, clean, with some greenery. Cool bar setup with baristas making specialty drinks. I was between 2 drinks and but got the Rafa (recommended). Sooo good. Got it with oat milk and it was creamy, smooth, not too sweet, with a subtle nutty buttery flavor. Barista handed it to me which was sweet. I saw another barista like delivering to people sitting so that's always nice. Also grabbed the Miso Pecan Spelt Cookie Crispy, chewy, not too sweet. I went right before 10am and some desserts were sold out already! I'd come back for sure. Sit down and try something else.
