After losing my car keys at the beach in Carp, an hour away from home, I was in a panic. AAA said we could tow the car but they couldn't guarantee that if they sent someone they would be able to start the car. I called another locksmith who was super helpful but didn't have the key fob that matched my car in stock and they referred me to ESP. In my experience, it is not often that a business will refer a potential customer to a competitor so to me that already says a lot about how their work is viewed by colleagues. The woman who answered the phone was very friendly and quickly picked up on my sense of urgency so she was great about calling me back multiple times as she checked on their schedule and if they had the key in stock. She clearly communicated the expected time that they would be able to get to me and Alan showed up right on time despite having to drive 45 minutes in traffic to get to the beach I was stranded at! What I appreciated the most about Alan is that he was very honest with me, not making promises that the reprogramming of the key fob would work because for my make & model there is some ambiguity about which part is correct. He talked me through the whole process and tried two different keys and the second one worked! The whole process took less than 30 minutes and it was such a relief to be able to get our on way back home before dark. Sadly, after seeing my roommate deal with these people, I don't think I'll ever get near to calling them... You can find my roommate's review below as well, but I'll just relay what I saw and heard. My roommate had a meeting, but he ended up locking his keys in the car. After a few attempts of using a wire hanger as a slim jim, we decided to just leave it to the professionals to help. My roommate called and was told that it would be a $35 flat rate with charges afterwards being due to time and labor. We thought that this would be about $75 (and I believe something the person on the phone might have mentioned) or so, which is what most other places were charging, thus we decided to go for it. After an hour or so, my roommate left and went down to meet the locksmith. Once he came back, he was definitely not happy. The good news was that the locksmith was able to unlock the car door. The bad news is that the guy was charging $95 for his services. When my roommate asked what was up since the person on the phone said it was supposed to be cheaper, even if variable, the locksmith said that it was a fixed cost. What's up with that?? Definitely not cool and quite deceptive... My roommate was able to argue the guy down to $85, but my roommate still was not a very happy camper... My roommate called back to complain about the $95 charge, but they didn't really do anything. Later, the person on the phone called my roommate back, so I thought it was going to be some form of apology/compensation. Instead, they asked why he had only paid $85 instead of the $95 charge. Messed up! Definitely not a service I would recommend to anyone in need. read more

I chose this locksmith after reading all the great reviews on Yelp. I needed to unlock my car so I called ESP up, gave them my make, model, and year, and they gave me an estimate of $55 upwards, depending upon the work involved, so I was expecting something in the range of $70. The technician showed up, but he told me that for my particular car, there was a fixed price of $95. I was shocked, because I had previously told them exactly what my car was, yet they did not tell me that there was a fixed price. Good thing I was able to bring it down to $85. However, this was extremely misleading, and I would not choose to do business with such a deceptive company, especially when entrusting them with something as valuable as security. Initially the service was cordial, but the technician was rude and insulting. He told me that my car was old and that I should sell it. He had to pry the door open slightly to reach the lock inside, and when I checked for damage, he told me not to worry about it because it was an old car. Lastly, when I was making the payment, he rushed me so that he could get out of there and onto his next customer. I wrote him a check, and he kindly informed me that if the check bounced, he would break into my garage and trash my car. What service provider vying for business in their right minds would insult and threaten a client in such a manner? Not a good one. read more

Called ESP to have a key made for my car, but there ended up being a ton of miscommunication and misquoted prices from the person I spoke with. I ended up going with another company in town, and called back to let them know I would be going in another direction (and to not order the key). They proceeded to hang up on me...thought that was some bad customer service, but didn't think much of it. About two weeks later, I received 4 calls in a row from the same gentleman, just to tell me how mad they were about now having to return the key to the dealership (which was ordered without my permission). We just had Alan finish installing a new lock on one of our home doors and re-key a couple of outer doors. From the beginning to the end of this interaction, we could not be happier with all elements of his work. From the office secretary (Erin) who spelled out the probable costs and scheduled a prompt appointment to the work done by Allen, all was perfect. He brought a lock that perfectly matched our other locks, he drilled out a new lock receptacle and installed the lock, giving us the requested 5 keys. The charge was reasonable and fair. I have used ESP Locksmith multiple times to re-key locks, and make key copies. Erin at their shop is terrific and Alan is definitely a hard worker. I called ESP recently due to a front door lock malfunctioning and wouldn't unlock which was a safety concern of mine. The lock was an older, specialty design and not usually readily available around town. Alan came out promptly and was able to temporarily mend until a replacement could be installed which was a huge relief for me. He quickly searched for a suitable replacement, called me with options, and ordered what I wanted. A new lock was installed more quickly than I expected. Their follow through from start to finish and keeping me updated throughout the process was very impressive! BEWARE - THE OWNER ALTERS THEIR PRICES UPON ARRIVAL. - THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR WORK. LAST MINUTE PRICE GOUGING. ESP was contacted to change our locks for our business a few years ago. Our locks had been sticking and we were all concerned about our keys breaking in the bolt. The quoted a price was provided before the owner came out to do the work. When he got here he altered that price to a great deal more. Our business turned him down for the work and then sent him on his way. A review was left on Google stating what had occurred. His wife contact the owner and pleaded that they were a small business and and reputation is everything and apologized for his alteration of the price upon arrival. She asked if they could right the wrong and please do the work as requested honoring the original price and then have the review removed. This is what was done. However, once again when the owner came out he lacked the items he needed to honor the quote of the work requested, but offered to replace the cylinder instead of the deadbolt instead. THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR WORK. Concerns of the work not being as sound were voiced and he assured our business that it would be secure and would last. The price was a little less than half of what was originally quoted and the work was completed. The original negative review was removed. Fast forward to a few years later and the cylinder was not staying stationary in the deadbolt and as a result would not consistently open the deadbolt. When the owner of ESP Locksmith was notified he responded that it had almost been just over two years and the work wasn't guaranteed that long. He offered to fix it for a fee. Our business assured him that his promise of his work being sound was taken in good faith and that his company's work on locks being limited to merely a few years or under is probably not the reputation he wants to promote. Our expectations were made clear. He reluctantly offered to take a look and fixed it. He again guaranteed their work would be sound. SHODDY WORK It is now less than a fews year later ...again and the cylinder is doing it ...again! It is slipping in the deadbolt and won't open the door. SHOP ELSEWHERE If you are looking for your lock replacement to last beyond a few years shop elsewhere. They don't stand by their quotes. They don't stand by their work.
