Need three different things on three different doors. I had a bunch of questions about what was available and possible, so spoke with Darrel a few times (use the phone, my emails sometimes were unanswered, but I always reached them by phone) to sort out what I needed and then I got an estimate. I had several questions and all were answered quickly. Christina called when the parts came in to schedule the install a few days later. Michael came and did the install on time did a great job on all three doors. He confirmed a few things where we had a choice how he solved a problem the previous deadbolt installer created, or needed clarification on fit. Fixed a squeak on a hinge I hadn't gotten to yet, and I think left the area cleaner than he found it. Final invoice was exactly as expected. A few days later, very happy with the work. In the past folks (or sometimes me) get the fit wrong so the door doesn't close quite right or scrapes on some part. We have none of that. read more

Please read this review if you are considering Santa Barbara Locksmiths. I moved to SB a little under a year ago. I ran into a very complex automotive locksmithing issue recently and called Juan at SB Locksmiths to help me out. If you don't want to read further, long story short- THEY ARE AMAZING Although my issue is not fully resolved (at no fault of Juan or sb locksmiths), I need to let the public know how attentive and professional SB locksmiths have been. Personally, as someone who also works in customer service, I NEEDED to leave a good review for these guys. If I could leave 10 5 star reviews I would. These are real, honest, hardworking folks who won't bs you. Literally went above and beyond. I'm forever grateful. read more

I went into Santa Barbara Locksmiths this morning to get a key cut for my motorcycle. I had to get the key blank from my motorcycle dealer because SB Locksmiths didn't have it. I brought in the key blank to be cut, and they said that they would not guarantee that the key would work and that it would cost me $40.00 to cut the key. read more

Step back in time to a genuine Key and Lock Shop. It felt like the '70s when I was a kid with my dad. Super cool old-timey vibe, excellent customer service. Huge collection of vintage safes, too. Fair prices for a local shop from days gone by. read more

Rude, unprofessional, dismissive behavior by Juan. Unhelpful, lacks communication skills, wasted my time.Avoid.

Great response and service thank you! Best locksmith in Santa Barbara. Have used others and appreciate you! read more

They did a great job with key duplication. Fast service and keys were made right the first time. Happy with service. Didn't know they had a parking lot. I ended up parking a few blocks away. read more

Update: SB Locksmiths got the last laugh on this one. The exact same door handle/lock they fixed a year ago to the tune of nearly $300, just did the very same thing. It's broken, locked shut. Good one, SB Locksmiths. Got me. Dear folks in need of a locksmith, please *do* look around at some of the more highly praised locksmiths here on Yelp. I certainly will. FINAL UPDATE: Just had a surreally delightful experience with Ricky of Carpinteria Lock and Key. Came to the rescue in just a few hours, great communication over texts, was *completely* transparent about the total cost of parts and labor (including tax!), AND was a journeyman professional. He even fixed the return on that office door so it no longer slams loudly. [The Santa Barbara Locksmith guy was unable to fix it.] It's like having a brand new door! So whisper-quiet when it closes, I have to keep checking to make sure it latched! Haha! I will leave a glowing review for Ricky and "Carpinteria Lock and Key," but just wanted to note here that I found someone I will use for life. Check out his Yelp page and you'll see another 46 people who felt the same and gave him a perfect 5-star review. Well deserved, Ricky. read more

Great customer service; both when I called and in person. They arrived right on time and were done in no time at all.

I stopped in because I was looking for a key copy for a random lock. While they did not have the key to do that (nobody does). I was really impressed with how much they do have. I mean, they seem to have everything! The guy who helped me was very friendly and knowledgeable. The key copy rates as well as the products on display were all reasonable and no more than a key shop in the other hardware stores. I wish I knew about SB Locksmith years ago. I will head there for key copies or locks in the future for sure! read more

Very bad experience and poor customer service. Send me back home 4 times to "try if the keys will work", didn't call back on the day 2 and 3. In the end they told me they don't have the right equipment to make it. Being reasonably disappointed it took 4 trips for me to find out they can't do it, manager didn't apologize, was pretty rude and walked away without trying to smooth the situation. Usually great service but this time abound- very poor experience. Work with your employees on "how to handle conflict situation", how to talk with clients, and have a list of other places and services in town for your customers. This is just a basics of CUSTOMER SERVICE 101 read more

No brainer. Called everyone. They are most diverse in skill, transparent in cost, and kind and prompt service.

Moved into a new place and needed the locks rekeyed and a door handle replaced. These folks are professional from the start. A very knowledgeable person answered the phone - and she KNEW what she was doing. Asked all the right questions and scheduled me for two days out. The locksmith showed up on time, rekeyed my locks, had the exact handle I needed and made me 6 keys on the spot. Reasonable rates, on time, professional. Great service. read more

Great lock shop with great service at excellent prices. Called hoping for a same day appointment, no problem, tech showed up at the house within a few hours and problem solved. Highly recommend. read more

Off the beaten path a bit, but worth it. Came here today to have a few of my apartment amenity keys duplicated. Had to drive around the block a few times in order to determine its exact location. It's not on the corner, but just to the right, beyond a narrow parking lot. It's a good ways off the street and you might miss it (like I did!) if you aren't paying attention to the signage. I was assisted by Juvy and he was very friendly and helpful. The keys I had made looked identical to some of the others on my ring, so he stamped lettering of my choosing into them free of charge. I know that's considered a standard practice but it wasn't something I'd thought of so completely appreciated the suggestion. The shop was actually pretty large and had everything you could think of pertaining to locks. It was clean, convenient, and I'd certainly come back again. read more

Last minute need to unlock our roof carrier while camping. Super helpful and got the lock opened. Sadly the type of lock tumbler couldnt be removed so we couldn't get extra keys without ruining the carrier. Which is not their fault/problem. Super nice and helpful with it being early morning. Our camping trip resumed! read more

We have had wonderful experiences with this company, both in the shop and changing locks at our home. They are extremely friendly, absolutely professional and make every transaction a happy dream. Recently I needed to buy keys and the man on duty in the store was unusually kind and patient and cheerful. When I had to change the locks on my front door, the woman who set up the appointment for me on the phone was fantastically nice and careful, all smiles. And the locksmith who came round, Juan, arrived exactly on time, even at our remote mountain home, fixed everything perfectly and was a model of politeness, kindness and efficiency. I have no vested interest in this company, but I have nothing but praise for every aspect of their service. read more

Excellent same day service! I called at around 11am, appointment made by Carol, follow up call by Rachel, and Juan came to change the lock at 3pm. Juan was on time, personable and extremely professional. Thank you for the great service...will definitely recommend to others. read more

I had almost given up on my Toyota. Nobody would make me a set of keys. These guys were right on it. They knew what they were doing and went right to work. They made me a brand new set of keys. Reasonable prices for these and I highly suggest them. At Santa Barbara Locksmith they'll get it done. read more

Our patio doors required repairs to the door handle and deadbolt. Edwin from Santa Barbara Locksmiths researched the parts scouring local hardware suppliers from Santa Barbara to Ventura and was able to diagnose the reason that the deadbolt broke in the first place and didn't just repair and replace the broken parts but made sure all pieces fit together properly. Now the door works better than when it was installed over fifteen years ago. We really appreciate the dedication to doing the job right. Thank you Santa Barbara Locksmiths! read more

I had locked my keys in the bed of my Tacoma truck with the cover over it and these guys opened it instantly without any trouble. Esteban and Mokki (I think that's how you spell it) we're extremely helpful. And way cheaper than expected. I highly recommend this spot. read more

Staff is friendly and all (gave my pooch a dog biscuit), but.... I took a trunk there with a padlock that needed to be opened with a bolt cutter. It took the guy literally 10 seconds to do it. Okay, let's say one minute because he had to come out to the car parked 20 ft away. The charge for that time intensive service was $15, saying that their normal fee is $25 for what they did. Do the math - their hourly fee, then, was $21,000/hr, discounted from $35,000/hr. I know businesses have overheads but really?... read more

Had a slight customer service mishap with one of their associates, but they apologized profusely and were more than happy to turn the interaction in to a GREAT customer service experience. Would highly recommend SB Locksmiths. Price, quality of work, and turnaround time were unbeatable! read more

Excellent, professional one-stop shop for all lock and key-related needs. I came here after trying unsuccessfully to get a copy of a key that General Motors used for millions of cars in the 1980s and 1990s: a simple ignition key for a 1991 Chevrolet. Home Depot didn't have it. Santa Barbara Locksmiths said "no problem" and I had two sets within minutes. Skip the big-box know-nothing retailers and come to this place! read more

Had a great experience with the staff in the store. Could get the key to work after trying another place, but this place took care of the key in one shot. They also have a huge selection of skeleton keys for older locks on the store. read more

Horrible and lazy. New guy offered great customer service and said to come back if the key replacement needed adjustment. So I did, but another person there just shrugged his shoulders and said well if it doesn't work, try another locksmith. Yes I will! He did not even try to look for another key style in their massive inventory. LAZY. Not recommended. read more

March 2, my tenant called to get the front door lock fixed. Oscar came. I payed $205. The tenant told me it was better but not fixed but they were leaving and didn't want to deal with it. I just returned from NY and called to explain the situation. Instead of offering to come and take a look and see what happened as a good business provider would do, the answer was "It is passed the warranty so if you want to, pay again!". Is that good business? i could have proved nobody was here if necessary. I have lived in Santa Barbara for more than 30 years. I am a very honest person. Bottom line I would not call them again or even less recommend them. Silvia A read more

For what I needed, which was a lock-out situation, these guys were very helpful and prompt. Another time, a lost mailkey created problems. With their (free) advice, I was able to find a workable solution that didn't even involve them and the crazy fee/work it would've been to fix it. read more

Today people seem not to want to think outside the box and spend any effort to trouble shoot individual problems. I am so happy to say that Santa Barbara Locksmiths employees are all about solving your problems. I needed a very unusual spindle for my lock, which might have been impossible to find and probably very expensive. Alan and I came up with a solution together that he implemented immediately with a smile on his face. It gives you hope about finding that sort of service wherever you go. I am very thankful. I highly recommend their services. Alana Guinn read more

Great service. Visited today to copy two keys for a rental property. Prompt, efficient, and they keys were cut perfectly.

I just want to say I went in there with an issue with a key broken off in a cargo box when I was on vacation. They were very friendly and helpful. The guys spent some time getting the broken key out and they did it. I would recommend this business to anyone. They go beyond to make your day better. read more

They went out of their way to help me with an unusual request. Wendy and the rest of the crew at Santa Barbara locksmiths are awesome!

This is an actual locksmith workshop. Bring your problem locks/keys and they will help you. Literally every kind of key blank right in store. Can cut good copies of broken keys. Awesome combined knowledge with the crew working there. For reference, 4 copies of key, Baldwin lock re-keyed and a bottle of lock lubricant all for less than $50, total steal. I have used SBL for 25+ years, unfortunately after the last 3 experiences I don't think that I will be going back. (Truthfully the service has been deteriorating for at least the last 5 years.) First the parking lot is a mess, inadequate parking and trailers (their own) parked partially blocking the entrance gate (on more than one occasion). If possible parking on the street is preferable if you can find a spot. If you ever went to the old location you will notice that the parking isn't much better. I have gone in twice in the last 8 months for keys, both times I had issues with the new keys. One duplicate was so far off that looking at the key you could tell that it wold not work. The final straw was going in and being told that someone would be right with me, then watching as a pair of employees wandered around aimlessly. When one did get called to the counter he decided to lecture me for waiting ("I thought that someone was with you, why didn't you say anything? You should have said something.") and then cut me off when I was trying to talk to him. I think I will go to Home depot for a key next time I want to be ignored. At least their low grade employees don't try to give me a hard time, and they have more things to look at while you wait. read more

We've been patrons of this establishment since December of 2003. Since the passing of Merrill Hoffman, the original owner, the customer service has become horrendous, and we will no longer patronize this place. My wife had some safe keys made last week, and one of them didn't work. She returned there today with the original to have them cut another one, but they wouldn't, stating that "how do we know you're not trying to rip us off?" It wasn't necessarily what they said, but it was how they said it--rude and condescending. She would've been more than willing to go get the key, but they were just flat out insulting. Over a single key to a customer of almost ten years! read more

Very nice setting up appointments but took them 3 months to finish my installation of my front door lock then after 3 month of operation the lock stop functioning and they wanted to charge me 80.00 to make a service call and the 1/2 hour for labor. The lock could have been installed wrong or the lock could have a manufacturing defect. I don't think I should have to pay for them to look at it and determine who fault it is. Don't do business with this company unless you have lots of money to burn what a rip off. By the way when I asked to talk to the manager I was told that the receptionist was the manager. All she want to do was tell me there policy very poor at customer relation. read more
