Kittrina is a goddess. I have a Specialized bicycle lock I got from EBay with just one key. It is no longer made but it is a uniquely useful lock. Specialized offers no support for it. There is nothing else like it. Kittrina tried to find a blank to match it, but they were all too thick. It seemed hopeless. But she would not give up. She must have tried every single key in the shop until she found a blank that fit. All for a key copy that only costs about $3. She then cut it to precision and I swear her copy works better than the original key. She even lubricated the lock. I praised her for her persistence in an era of short attention spans. "Curiosity" was her answer. Kittrina really made my day. Yes, she copied a key that I really needed and it only cost about $3. But she also gave me hope that there are still people who care about what they are doing and how it can make a difference in the life of another human being. read more

Incredible service. Brought my car key in that was over-worn, and Kittrina looked up the codes and cut me a brand new one in 10 minutes. My car wasn't in the lot, and Cal Coast was closing within a half hour, so Kittrina handed me the key and told me to test it out on my car. If it worked, I could come back on Monday and pay her then. "We do it old-school here," Kittrina said. It worked perfectly. I was ecstatic to have my car back and I returned to get another copy/pay for the work as soon as I could get there on Monday. Initially, my experience with Kittrina (the shop owner) was fine even though she's limited in being able to setup a more advanced lock. However, when Bartlein (by far the most crooked and nasty company I've ever dealt with) got involved, she acted like the property manager is the client rather than the owner. On the phone, her manager Paul was very rude to me, cutting me off while I was asking him to simply speak with Kittrina since she was aware of what was happening. He kept shouting that he was the manager and he knew everything when he didn't. Kittrina straightened him out, but tried to deflect this by saying that they had to follow protocol , as if I was in the wrong. Again, I had spoken with Kittrina first, then Paul who didn't know anything and caused a bunch of problems because he was too interested in being rude and stubborn to simply speak to Kittrina who had already spoken to Bartlein. I don't entirely blame Kittrina for this issue, as Paul was the one who was rude, then obviously created a problem for me with Kittrina, who told Bartlein something that caused me more trouble, but she gets a 1/5 for allowing this to happen at her business, allowing her staff to be extremely rude to people, and, for trying to blame me passive aggressively by pretending that this was about following protocol, which was already followed and I simply told Paul to speak with her to see that protocol had been followed. Bartlein is also to blame for my experience. Additionally, we have been waiting for 6 months for a simple door closer that any competent locksmith would be able to get. I can even get these parts from Grainger today - I've bought tons for other doors, but since this is an HOA, I have to deal with Bartlein and their horrible vendors. read more

Coming here for service,based on a great referral from Fairview Motors, worked out very well! Katrina figured out what was going on with what I thought was a broken lock on one car door of my seventeen year old sedan. She explained why the malfunction was happening and made a couple of suggestions. My old, worn down original Toyota key wasn't working in the passenger side lock that I rarely used. I wasn't willing to pay over $100 to Toyota to replace it. Instead, I had an extra valet key made from another valet key that I had on hand. Cost: less than $5.00! I lost my only pair of keys for my car and, as a result, was left without an easy way to make copies or drive my car. After calling another local locksmith, (and being told I would have to: pay a ridiculous amount to get a key made, as well as have my car towed to the location) I found Cal Coast online. I've been there twice after trying to have duplicate car keys cut. Some previous locksmiths said they wouldn't cut the key because I bought it off the internet and its an inferior metal or they want $40 to cut the key. I walked in and gave him my original key and the new remote fob key and within 2 minutes he cut the key and returned and said it was $3. Key worked great. Go the these guys first, they are that good. I have some older motorcycles, where other locksmiths don't have the key blanks on hand. These guys do. I have paid to get keys cut at other locksmiths only to find out they don't work. I drove 20 miles to get to their shop, the keys they cut worked perfectly. My starving student son, lost his one and only motorcycle key, I helped him pull the ignition lockset, he drove it to their shop and they cut a key from scratch. Contacted them over the phone to confirm they could make a transponder key for my wife's Honda CRV. Was quoted $85-$95. I also asked if I could come by that morning to get the key made. No problem. Problem. I arrive an hour later. The person needed to program the key to the CRV (the same person I had talked to on the phone) isn't there. Then the employee present starts going through the costs. As they itemized each expense; the key, cutting, etc I stopped them when the hit $150.00. At that point going to the Honda dealer and getting a factory key was going to be considerably less. So one star for poor communication, inconsistent pricing, and a rather "oh well" attitude. It was a Saturday. Maybe things better Mon-Fri. read more

They serve the Goleta area which is where I live and there is automatically a $65.00 trip charge. Then it was 35$ for him to pick the lock.... that is so insane to me. Great locksmith and friendly too. I would never consider going anywnere else. Fixed my deadbolt quickly and for a reazonable price while i waited. Just took a few minutes. Brought another lock the next day which was impossible to turn the key. Dropped it off for an hour and when i returned it was ready znd operating smooth as silk. Thye told me it just needed cleaned and lube and there would be no charge. They could have easuily sold me a new lock but they didnt. read more

What incredible service. I was locked out of a scooter on a Saturday. I went to talk to Leo, showed him a key to a different scooter, same model and asked if he could get the scooter unlocked. The key was in the trunk under the seat. He said he could and I was a little unsure. He said normally they would be able to go out, but because it was Saturday and he was the only one there, I'd have to get it to him. I had the scooter towed to the shop and left nervous. I wasn't sure he was going to be able to do it. An hour later he calls. I was nervous thinking it was a call stating, "Sorry." It was not! He said, he had popped the seat open and to come on over. He had done just that. He popped the seat and didn't go through anything there. Of course the key was in there with everything else, wallet, phone, etc. He charged me a very reasonable fee, so much that I felt it was not enough. The service that Leo gave was incredible. I needed some keys to be copied and needed them done quickly. I called on 04/16 to see if Cal Coast could complete this task. The lady who answered the phone was very helpful/professional and let me know that all of their techs were out on calls. I was fine with leaving the keys and picking them up later. I went ahead and dropped off the keys and received a call back in 15 minutes saying that a tech had returned to the shop and made a copy of the keys already. I picked up the key copies (4 total of different kinds). I was please with the price at about $9. The thing that prompted me to write this review was the fact that I dropped off a Ford Truck key that was stamped with some generic garbage company (a copy). When I looked at the new truck key, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the key had the "Ford" insignia imprinted on them. I had not told them what vehicle the key was for, but they knew. I contacted Cal Coast Locksmith when our company relocated our office to Goleta in March of 2011.The staff at Cal Coast Locksmith was wonderful. Carl met me at the new facility while our construction was taking place months before we actually moved in. He proposed a clear and cost efficient plan for the external and internal door access, locks and security. We decided to use the existing door hardware with a card access system on the front door while saving money by using the existing hardware. He worked with me and our budget and suggested not installing card access systems on two other doors but rather an electronic button code lock. This decision alone saved us $10,000. Carl also worked with my security company to coordinate the joint installation of locks, sensors and wiring. When the time came, keys for all my internal offices were cut on site and verified to work before they were handed over to me. All keys were also stamped with an identifier so i knew what door they opened. Overall I was VERY happy with the level of service, professionalism, promptness and responsiveness that Cal Coast provide.
