It was honestly surprisingly fun and good and terrifying (because we did the haunted cabin one). The actress that met us and whoever acted as the scary character (that I won't spoil!) within the experience was so good. Literally felt like I was in a movie trying not to die with my friends! We had the privilege of being one of the last groups to break the 'Curse of the Mayan Ruins'. Our guide Kaitlin did an excellent job setting the tone as soon as we arrived in the parking lot! Group of 4 adults did the Manor (one of their more difficult) and it was a challenge. The walls are thin to other rooms which makes it difficult when ppl are screaming to hear clues. Hard to explain the experience without giving too much away. The debrief allowed us to ask questions for items we had difficulties with. We were not told the answer as they want you to come back and try to do better. I think they stated there were 4 different rooms. One tip, you can do a scary room, and ask for no interactions. Went today for the scary cabin themed room and it absolutely scared the sh*t out of my husband and me. The staff (who's names both started with J) were absolutely amazing at their job. We were a group of six doing Midnight Manor with Jeremy as our host! He was very helpful in explaining the lore (some of us neglected to read it) and answering our questions while keeping the immersion. LITERALLY THE BEST ESCAPE ROOM IVE EVER DONE. Kenzie and Justin were incredible game hosts. The room was absolutely incredible and had so many elements. We played THE CABIN with our kids who are 7 & 9. I recommend not having the actors present as it was pretty scary for them however, we still beat the room. Kenzie did a great job of not being too scary for our youngest. She kept calling him her "bestest friend" to help him calm down...and this was his idea. We have escaped all four - two of which we had two people (Ruins and Theradonia) and the other two four people. Mayan Ruins - great immersion, medium puzzles, excellent story. Theradonia - fantasy isn't our strong suit - but for those it is they'll really enjoy it. Medium puzzles, great immersion. Baker Street - I believe this is their easiest room - easy puzzles, great immersion The Cabin 2 - I WISH WE HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS PLACE TO DO 1! *sigh* this was so fun - pee ahead of time because there are scares - we are anxiously awaiting part three. Medium puzzles, lots to do, wouldn't recommend less than four people...not just for moral support but there's a decent amount to get through. On top of all the fun we had the staff were great. We talked about rooms we had done elsewhere and puzzles in general and got recommendations for places in some cities we were planning to visit. Gig Harbor's Escape Hour is a well thought out experience. I've now experienced all of their rooms and each room has its own unique puzzles and twists. The Cabin is by far one of the scariest rooms I've done. The game hosts/makers are in character the second they welcome you in which makes it a bit more fun. Had to find something last minute to do with my little sister who is nine. She's been begging me to take her to an escape room and they had one spot open in the scary room, I was hesitant. I called ahead and they said they would take out all the scary live action so we would be left with clues only. I contacted Escape Hour before making a reservation for my 12 year olds Birthday Party. We have done many of their rooms, including the Tacoma Location, it has always been a good experience. I wanted to make sure of two things before I paid. 1) Was Mayan Ruins doable by 12 year olds? Could they solve the puzzles or was it to hard? As adults we completed it, but I don't have the experience they have with groups to rate the difficulty. I was told this was the perfect room for that age group and they would have a ton of fun. I waited to post this review as I requested to be contacted by management and sadly, after a couple of weeks this didn't happen. I'm not going to chase down contact. My request was in writing and the message was confirmed as received. The group consisted of 8, 12 year olds. Before they began I asked the game master to give regular assistance/clues to help them succeed. Since they are kids and many had never done an escape room, I wanted to make sure it was fun, not just frustrating. I asked that they be given clues, even if they didn't request them to help keep them on track, in addition to being stuck on a puzzle for an extended period of time, skipped a step or arguing/dead lock of communication. Please redirect them often and as needed. They requested I wait outside in my car or come back in an hour, I declined. Definitely not something the other moms would have appreciated. I sat in the lobby and could hear the experience. What I couldn't do was see what was happening on the screen the game master was watching, so I wasn't sure if he was doing as I asked. Maybe I told myself, based on what he was seeing they were rocking it and didn't need the help? I had asked that my son be the communication aka walkie talkie holder and was overruled by the game master who gave it to another player and made my son the game lead or some other title that basically meant he held the lantern and went into the room first. I heard my son tell the group numerous times, once on repeat, "We need a clue, we need a clue, we need a clue..." ( you get the idea). My assumption, since it didn't come through the walkie talkie, no clue was given to them. I could hear him through the wall. The game master could hear him through the headset...but he ignored the ask for help. That was not the only time he did this. He ignored their frustrations, he ignored all my requests. I made the mistake of not speaking up. I didn't want to be "that mom" or insert myself in a process he is paid to handle. I didn't want to assume he was totally messing it up. Plus, another group was in the room right next to them. I could hear them. The other game master was working with them and me talking would have been disruptive to everyone. I wanted to be respectful. Next thing I knew he gave them a 5 minute warning?! I was flabbergasted! "5 minutes", I said? Have they gotten into the second room? His reply sealed the deal for me and I was officially angry. "No, they haven't and they won't be able to. They missed a step and I would have to redirect them in order to have them go back." So he didn't do what I asked. He didn't help them. He just let them fail. I said, "Do it now, help them!" So he did, he gave them a clue and they went back and solved the puzzle. He was shocked that they were able to do it. Was that the problem this entire time? He didn't think they could do it and it was all a joke to him? And a 5 minute warning? That's whiplash and not what we have experienced in the past. The kids needed more updates on the time that was passing so they had a reference point. Time goes by really fast and the usual reminders (30 min. 15 min. etc) help us as adults immensely. I did ask at one point if I could go in and "direct them'. Not solve the puzzles but just keep them on track and make sure they are progressing. I was told no, only paid participants are allowed in and since the room was 8, I wasn't allowed. I wish we would have sent in one adult, but they assured me the kids would be fine solo. My son came out, put his head in my chest and was trying to hide his emotions and disappointment. I don't blame him, I wasn't inside with them and I was frustrated. That night when we were alone he shared all his frustrations and that it was the worst experience. As his mom I didn't think an escape room was the best idea. BUT! Since we had been to Escape Hour numerous times and they assured me it would be great, I relented. I regret that choice. I sadly would not recommend this business for parties for kids under the age of 16. It was a HUGE expense and felt like a waste of money. I just wanted them to have a great time, solve puzzles, laugh and it didn't matter to me how much help they got, I made that very clear. For some reason all my wishes were ignored. I hesitate not to recommend them at all, but at this point we wont be returning anytime soon. My oldest son had read more

At first I thought it was a little corky but really appreciated how involved they were in the customers experience as it went on. Last year we visited Gig Harbor from South Florida and had the great opportunity to enjoy one of the Escape Hour rooms. We just did another visit and this was a must do on our list. We had the great opportunity to visit Theradonia. With our trusty guide Mrs. S!!! Sadira we were able to make it through our quest. Both of our visits to Escape Hour exceeded expectations that we didn't even know we had! While we have enjoyed other escape rooms, The immersive experience from the moment we walked in is amazing. To say that the staff and designers are passionate about what they do is an understatement. The props are well thought out and well maintained. Other rooms have props that have are worn and used which takes one out of the immersive experience. The sequence of the clues and manner which they are activated goes beyond the typical locks but rather require you to use all of your senses to push forward. Sadira stayed in character the entire time giving us prompts and clues. Here's the next level engagement component. While the room, clues, props were stellar and worthy of praise on its own; we were greeted by our game masters Kelsie & Lexy at our victorious exit with celebration. They knew that we were there celebrating two birthday's. (Mom & Daughter share the same day). They took the time to handwrite two separate birthday cards to the birthday girls. That was a great opportunity for them to take an already fantastic time and end it with something that was genuine and personal. While we live in one of the vacation capitols of the world with no shortage of entertainment options... I can honestly say that Escape Hour stands up to almost anything we have to offer here in that arena.
