This was a great experience for my son's birthday party. He and his friends had a blast and the GM was extremely nice, welcoming, and informative. We did the Rise of the Mad Pharaoh experience and was super fun. Lots of intricate puzzles to solve, loved the super cheesy/funny video that was part of the experience, and the theme was spot on. There is no private parking lot but there is paid street parking in the surrounding area. There are a bunch of arrows all around the building but the room is on the 4th floor at unit 422B. We made reservations online beforehand. We noticed that the price per person changed depending on the number of people you selected for the escape room. We did the Ghostly Galleon escape room with four people. The escape room we chose was a medium-hard level and was supposedly the hardest room that they offer. The escape room took place in just one room and I would've liked it to be more interactive with multiple rooms. It was pretty difficult and I'd recommend doing this particular room with people who are experienced in escape rooms. This was a good place with escape rooms of a range of difficulty and the themes were great. read more

We have been to a lot of escape rooms in the Seattle area and this is definitely one of the best of the lot. This time we booked the Mystery at Innsmouth room for a group of 8 people. Our group had so much fun and broke out of the room with almost 10 mins to spare on the clock. This was more of an experience focused escape room than the other ones we have been to so far. The clues were definitely very interesting and unique. Would highly recommend. Just a side note that this room costs $45/person while usually it's around $35/person. IMPORTANT! We didn't know they had promo codes that could be used to get a 10% off on all online booking until after we completed the escape room, which was very late. But if you are going to book an escape room make sure to use one of these codes to get a 10% off: "More2Play" or "HG10". However I contacted them afterwards over email and they were very kind enough to give me a gift voucher for 36$ for my next visit with them, which was a very nice gesture! read more

Awesome on so many levels. The staff are fantastic. They're friendly, informative, and do a bit of roleplaying to engage you with the experience. Last time I went we had Lem, who was awesome! Each room had a story and theme to go with it, and the props and puzzles in the room all match the theme. The craftsmanship is excellent! Lots of custom-made props, like a TV with a windowsill built around it to simulate a ship on a stormy sea. The music, sound effects, and lighting are all thoughtful and well chosen, adding a lot to the vibes. The puzzles are super fun! Nothing brutal, tons of creativity, and sign posted well so we didn't go chasing non-starters. We did the Ghostly Galleon, which is about finding the identity of the Banshee Buccaneer from amongst 9 suspects, ruling out suspects as you receive more lore friendly clues. The room was absolutely chock full of puzzles, which is a big benefit, but also the only real downside of the place. Having so many puzzles in the room, with the time limit attached, meant you've got to keep solving puzzles at a very steady clip to complete the room, something like 1 every 3-5 minutes. If you get hung up on anything for longer than 10 minutes, you're likely not going to make it. This means having a large group is usually the best way to go, as you have more people attacking a puzzle at once, or people solving multiple puzzles in parallel. So it's a tad bit weighted against smaller groups. However, the staff are always monitoring you, and they freely offer hints that are humorously lore friendly. There was a very neat little clue mechanism built into the room we were in, where you bought hints with doubloons scattered around the room. It's a fantastic mechanism that makes even the hints feel like something you earn. Overall, absolutely delightful experience. Went on a date with the gf here, and cannot wait to come back with friends. I cannot recommend it highly enough! read more

Hate to say it but this place was just eh. We have done many escape rooms over the years, but we are by no means experts. We certainly appreciate these small businesses. However, given the level of competition out there, there are other better options for the time and money in our opinion. We did the Ghostly pirate ship room. Firstly, it was hot as hell inside that escape room. We all were sweating like pigs. The room was just one room....and this was pretty disappointing. It did not feel super immersive and more like party decorations. It was hard not notice we are just in a hot box steps inside their suite. The employee sat one foot outside the door with a makeshift security setup for our room. Cords going all over the place. Felt like indoor camping. The level of detail was disappointing. While the room was challenging, it wasn't super engaging. It was just looking at posters on the wall and matching things. The excitement just wasn't there. The employees were friendly and great. However, given the pricing, level of competition and other quality escape rooms out there - you may be better off shopping around. If you are super close by and looking for a more carnival-level quality escape room, this may be your place. read more

If you like puzzles in your escape rooms, Mystery at Innsmouth is the way to go. Lots of interlinking and multi-layered problems to solve. My three friends and I are experienced escape room aficionados, but we still solved this room with only six minutes to spare. The overall tone of Mystery at Innsmouth was creepy but not really scary. The production value was quite good (unlike some rooms that have rather junky effects). All in all, a fun, challenging time. Probably one of my top three escape room experiences. read more

We made quick order of every room in this location so here goes: Evil Dead 2 - two of us (experienced) players and we enjoyed it. It was pretty intuitive on what goes where, great effects, there was one situation we got stumped but a nudge got us out pretty quickly. Too quickly for staff, who ushered us out the backdoor and we missed the photo/sticker op. However was fun enough that we just went to car to book our next room.. Ghostly Galleons - they told the two of us not to do with just two. I don't know how more people would have helped as the puzzles we got stuck on I don't think more people would have helped. There was a puzzle that they bragged was "the hardest in Seattle" and I argued it's because it wasn't clear and logical, but whatever. Of the rooms here this was my least favorite, it was all one room, puzzles weren't exciting, ending anti-climatic. But this didn't stop us from wanting to book The Rise of the Mad Pharaoh - we were told we cannot do it just the two of us so we gathered some friends and came back the next night. Now two of us (experienced) and four newbies (not brand new, but only 1-2 rooms each). So this room is my favorite of the three. It had enough for all six of us to be consistently busy and through all of our efforts we managed to escape with plenty of time left and no interaction from our game master. It was a lot of fun, though I will say I credit that to the people as much as the game. All in all Hourglass is pretty legit. I also did their online The Navigators and the Call From Beyond Digital Escape Room solo today and found that to be fun as well. I'm looking forward to future rooms by Hourglass! read more

Our family have done a lot of escape rooms, so my bar is very high. Four of us completed the Mystery at Innsmouth yesterday. Positives - puzzles were unique and just the right level of challenging. There were a lot of puzzles. We usually solve rooms in about 30-40 minutes but only had 7 minutes to spare. I appreciated the number of puzzles and rooms. Negatives: Hourglass Escapes needs to work on a more fully developed story. The storyline seemed to take a hard right in the middle of game play. The production quality of the room was good (think 1920s hotel) but not the best I've seen in escape rooms we have frequented in the past. If you are a new escape room participant you would probably really like this. As a veteran I would rate it a 7.5 out of 10. Not bad - but not the best I've been to. read more

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY, THEY ARE A SCAM. I booked a reservation a month in advance in order to do the right thing. Admittedly, I booked the wrong day and missed the appointment. They were incredibly unaccommodating when I tried to find a solution. I did not ask for my money back, I did not demand that they ask kick out the other participants. They have a no refund policy which I understand; however, I asked if I could attend the following day (whatever's open) with a larger group. While I wouldn't get my money back, I would still be able to partake in an escape room AND I was bringing a larger party to give them MORE money. I gave over $200 to book a room, so I wouldn't get that back but I was asking to book a room with 4 people that we would pay for then the other 4 members would utilize that initial booking fee as a credit. When that wasn't an option, I asked if we could come immediately for a reduced time or even a quick same day one. Obviously, I made a mistake but I was still willing to give more money towards this business. I was trying to figure out a solution for this debacle but the call person rudely interrupted me saying "they had other guests here". Terrible experience. Don't go here. Go to Seattle Escape Games or Puzzle Break instead. read more

Evil Dead 2 (remote)- I played with 6 other people. The person organizing the event wasn't sure if he'd be able to get all 5 other people in. The company was willing to work with our situation and said we should order the minimum and that they could charge us more as necessary. Horror is not my top choice, but I loved doing this escape room anyway. This is a top-notch escape room company. They have been training their employees and learning from past experiences. They offer live (when appropriate), video camera, and some have an avatar/NPC that you control instead. Many escape rooms can't offer avatar/NPC because it is expensive and it is also not a format everyone may like because they may feel like why should they play a computer game when they can just buy a computer game without a limited amount of time. I personally like the idea, but I'm also very big into interactive fiction games/point and click and this is not the most popular genre out there. For the remote experience, the interactive computer files provided with the zoom feature are about as impeccable for the dynamics to transition the room from live to remote. It's very impressive. For the person to go around the room with a video camera- that is a lot of work too. They have to try to angle it right. I think the device might be something he wears on top of his head. If so, that sounds like a lot of pressure on one's head. And then to transition from one room to another- it's a lot. They try to work with each situation individually based on the context. Our host, Jeff, has excellent sensibilities of when it might be hard to see certain items in the room and appropriately directed the group toward certain things if they asked certain questions or if he could tell there were errors in viewability or how things worked in the escape room itself. We were lucky to get someone who probably had a lot of experience doing this. 7/25/21 addendum: I just found out that my group host had to call 8 times to understand what the heck was going on and how to organize this event. And then, on top of that, he had to help two other members get into the room properly and they almost missed their chance. Thank you for "putting up" with all of this. I'm sure you could tell that that person wasn't trying to call 8 times to be a jerk, but it can get annoying and I get a bit of it too, lol. I'm not surprised to see that they have very few bad reviews, and the ones they do have on here, they attempt to address. I'm seeing if I can get some friends to try one of the point and clicks. We had an excellent experience at Hourglass Escapes! The staff was absolutely lovely--we had an older gentleman host and I'm bummed I can't remember his name because he was so wonderful! We did the Ghostly Galleon escape room with a group of four, two very experienced escape room goers, and two newbies. We found the room both thematically fun and heartily challenging (but not frustratingly so). The room we did lacked the flash of other escape rooms since it was a single room and relatively low-tech--HOWEVER, that makes it all the more impressive that we had a wonderful puzzling experience! Overall, this room is a great experience that will delight any group up for a challenge, and we are very excited to come back to try out the other rooms on offer. :) read more

I've read many good things about Hourglass's Evil Dead 2 virtual escape room from escape room enthusiasts and they were not exaggerating. What they managed to do with the property is amazing. The puzzles are engaging, if maybe not the hardest, and everything was well translated to the virtual lamdscape. I played with a few virtual first timers and while it did take some getting used to at first, we all eventually got into the swing of things. The set up is one of my favorite kinds for the virtual escape room because of ease of use: you have an avatar to guide in the room and an inventory screen where you can see clues close up (two screens is recommended for smoothest play). We got to play with our incredible game master Jeff who was a joy to guide around. He only ever gently gave hints but not in an intrusive way and was keeping us laughing the whole time. I also liked that we got about 10 min of additional hangout Zoom time at the end. My only critique with this (and most other virtual escape rooms) is that they neglect doing a group photo and telling you how much time you had left. I think MindTrap was the only one I've done who did that but would love if rooms could start doing those again, especially since Hourglass has pretty strict written rules about no screencapping or recording of any kind. Anyway, the room is highly enjoyable, for both fans of the movie and those who haven't seen it. I'd recommend for people who have done at least one escape room before for maximum use of time and fun! read more

I wish I knew more about "escape" rooms when I started as I spent too much time on unnecessary details (like how to escape the room and Dr Carter's rants, lol) not knowing it was all about solving somewhat unconnected puzzles. We refused the clue they offered 40 minutes in, but failed proudly. We would try a different experience next year as we work close by. Overall, we recommend! read more

Ghostly Galleons is average to below average overall. Con - It's a single room with scattered puzzles but a lot of the elements aren't relevant until you get other clues. Con - There were two locks that are "troublesome" or "finicky" so that even though we put the right combination/code, it wouldn't open, so our gamemaster has to come in and to do it for us (or actually take away the box from us and do it outside of the escape room). Pro - not as expensive as other rooms; not often booked so we were able to get it an hour before the time slot Pro - there were at least one or two puzzles that I did find unique and fun Con - the story comes across as interesting, but the way you find the solution(s) is indeed anti-climatic with a "oh that's it?" kind of feel As someone who has done 50+ escape rooms, I'd rank Ghostly Galleons in bottom 15 (would not recommend). read more

Did the virtual Evil Dead 2 escape room and had a really fun time. I wasn't sure how good a virtual escape room would be, but Hourglass really made the most of the limitations and injected the experience with a lot of humor. The Evil Dead 2 experience itself was really well done. The room is a dead ringer for the movie's cabin setting, and they even use actual props from the films. Lots of little Easter eggs throughout for fans of the movies too. It would have been great to see all those details in person, but at least until the pandemic ends, the virtual escape room is the next best thing. read more

I was pretty skeptical about how fun a virtual escape room could be, but I did the Evil Dead 2 experience with some friends the other day and had an absolute blast. You don't need to know anything about Evil Dead 2 to enjoy the room but if you ARE a fan, there are tons of great little nods to the film throughout and the experience is both fun and challenging. We all really enjoyed the escape room and the folks at Hourglass did a really stellar job of guiding us and delivering an incredibly creative and interactive experience. If you're looking for a quirky fun event that you can do from the safety of your home, I'd highly recommend this. read more

From the puzzles to the online inventory system to our fabulous avatar/game master Jeff my team and I had a very groovy experience indeed. My Experience Level: This was my 37th room. Room: The Ghostly Galleon Price: $31.50/person Group Size: 3 (all with equal or more escape room experience than me) Theming: The decor was good, but the room was small. It was also one single room versus the multi room experience I have gotten accustomed to. Puzzles: I felt like the solutions were not super intuitive, as we got more stuck than we typically do in rooms. For the most part we were able to connect the correct pieces to its corresponding lock, but spent a lot of time stumped from there. By the time the answers were figured out or revealed, I didn't feel a great sense of satisfaction. Hint System: Doubloons (coins/tokens) can be found throughout the room, and you can exchange 2 for a hint. The game master was right outside, so we just opened the door when we wanted a hint. We didn't bother with actually turning in the doubloons and just kept them off to the side. Outcome: We did not escape within an hour, but were allowed to play until we finished. The clock stops after an hour, but I think it took us 80 minutes total. Parking/Location: We did paid meter parking. Would I Return: Maybe if the price for Evil Dead goes down, or becomes a set cost for fewer players. One member of our group did this room in the past and had positive feedback. Currently, you need a full group of 5 to get the cheapest price of $40/person. read more

We were in the area for a friend's wedding and he actually planned this fun evening for us before the wedding. Wow were we impressed with the setup that they have at Hourglass Escapes. The themed rooms were amazing and both the groups had fun. We split into a group of girls and a group of guys for the different adventures and all had a great time. The guys had an Evil Dead themed room and we were blown away at how interesting and complex the different pieces of the puzzle were for us to solve. This room is the owner's special project and the love that went into this room shows. It's funny, challenging, with amazing details and lots of throwbacks to the original movie. Great room! Our team unfortunately didn't escape but our room master was awesome enough to give us the time to solve and go about finishing the mission - getting 5 stars for that. Tricky clues and gave them some feedback for improving some of the puzzles and they appreciated that. Not meaning to spoil anything but there is one clue that was SO awesome and complimented them how clever it was. I would be highly interested in doing another escape room with the company. Nice and friendly staff and we were able to have pirates hats and tattoos. With having little kids, they certainly appreciated the goodies. Bonus for that! I think if I had to rate this one from the other escape rooms in Seattle, I think I would put this in the middle of the ones to refer people to. Locurio and ETA are pretty hard to beat. read more

Hourglass Escapes is fine I did the Mad Pharaoh room here...it is not my favorite room ever, but it is not the worse room I have done either. My main issue with this room was that it is only 1 room, no hidden doors, secret rooms, etc. That is one of my favorite things about escape rooms, so that was a little disappointing. My other main issue with this room is that the game master is in the room with you the whole time, which sometimes can be a little awkward. I def prefer rooms that watch you on camera and help you from afar That being said, the room is still worth checking out if you have already done most of the other rooms in the Seattle area. The room itself was decorated very nicely and themed. The puzzles were pretty fun, although we did encounter a mechanical issue during our time, which the game master was able to resolve for us, but it did slow us down a bit and had to give us extra time Overall, I didn't have high expectations so I was pleased. Again, not a bad room, just not showstopping either Bonus to them for giving you stickers at the end, woohoo!!! I was pleasantly surprised at how much the game felt like real escape rooms I've been to before. And it's pretty lengthy! My boyfriend and I are long distance and we did it over Facetime together. The two licensed games (Evil Dead and Innsmouth) are standouts, but the attention to detail and novel puzzles are present in all their offerings.
