My husband brought me here for a birthday surprise, so it was just the 2 of us and there were 3 different rooms for the minimum of 2 people. We did the Secret Vault which had a 35% passing rate. It was challenging and fun and even though we didn't escape, they did allow us 15 extra minutes with 3 more clues and we got out in 7 minutes. It was only 1 room, but it was so well thought out and some stuff that was super crazy hard, that I would have never thought of. I liked how clean everything was and well kept. I've been through some escape rooms out of the country and so I thought that this room was comparable in the level of difficulty for some parts, but for sure the puzzles were done very well. I've told a lot of my friends about this place, so I can't wait to go back with them. There's no red herrings, and the game master did very well with guiding us during the clues and was very thorough with the rules. Can't wait to go back. read more

Update: the owner completely missed the point about the laminated cards. Clues should be creative and your company took a very stale, almost lazy approach to clue display. You already have numerous different rules and a required liability form, so I don't see a problem with a screwdriver, something you can find in your house. TLDR: I have done 15+ rooms and this place ranks the worst I've ever done. Being OGs to the escape room scene, opening in 2014, Escape Expert should have a proven formula down. At least that is what I bet on. Oh, how wrong I was. Boasting the "largest" escape room in Texas is true. Just trying to find the bathroom in this place is hard. HOWEVER, it really is just a pitiful excuse to be expensive. Their "third generation escape room" is just a fancy phrase to say an escape room with no manual locks. I hated their escape room, Holding Cell. Their orientation room takes away from the experience. I didn't pay $30 to sit and get lectured like children for 10 minutes on about 15 different rules I could be liable for if I break. When you enter an escape room, you should feel transported into a movie or another dimension. Their room had no atmosphere. It felt like a room disguised as a cell, instead of being a cell. It just felt fake. Where was the toilet or sink the prisoner was suppose to use? Why the hell was there a blackboard on the wall? The blackboard should be a clue. The room just felt clunky. It didn't have a flow and the progression clues were poorly displayed. Progression should feel rewarding. Here, it just felt trivial and insulting. (We got the puzzle! What did we get? Oh, just a laminated card).The clues were written on LAMINATED CARDS. Like come on, be more creative. Have a scewdrive as a reward and something. On the backs, they had the location of the clues for the staff to reset the room. It was a poor attempt at an technologically advanced escape room. This is a prime example of quality over quantity. I came here here on a corporate team building event and it was really enjoyable. Me and my team were placed in a room and the host set a scenario and left us to figure out how to escape the room in 1 hour. As a team you must come together, communicate and put your brains together to solve, riddles puzzles, equations, etc. Though we didn't escape in the 60 minutes it was a fun experience and I believe everyone enjoyed it. We had a blast! Our group included 4 adults and 3 teenage girls, and we solved the quest of the Secret Room. I knew it was a hit when as soon as it was over, the girls asked "when can we return and do this again?" The staff was extremely friendly and professional, the facilities are clean, and the escape scenario itself was challenging, but not outrageous...with the use of our 3 allowed clues, we were able to work as a team and complete our goal with time to spare. I came with a group of friends, all of whom are Jewish. The plot included dropping poison gas into the room if we did not escape, killing everyone. We expressed concern to the manager. While he insisted that "no one had complained before", he also did not acknowledge how it could be offensive and argued with us. He could have said that he would consider changing the plot, but instead presented as someone who didn't care. Came here a few weeks ago and had a lot of fun with it! It was the first time going to any sort of escape room for all in our group, and we would all do it again. We went on a Saturday night around 10:30, and luckily got a room without a reservation because it was a slower night. We did the "Case Chase" room, which was full of challenges! They also had a phone in the room, so you can call for clues if you really feel stuck, so at least you can feel like you're able to move on. The staff was extremely friendly and patient, even letting us sneak in a few extra minutes to finish before they closed shop. My boyfriend and I have played escape rooms all across Texas, and enjoy playing through the puzzles and games and getting to experience each individual one for the fun of it. We didn't mind when they told us the room was nearly impossible to beat with two people. Totally fine! We appreciated the heads up. We don't mind losing. That being said, this place was seriously lacking the "fun". From the office building that reminded us of sitting in a doctors office, no music, no upbeat friendly staff to start pumpin you up or getting excited about playing a game. To being escorted into what felt like a class room and have someone with low energy explain the rules & game sitting at the front of the room out of a binder definitely felt a bit awkward. We were let down hearing that we can't ask for help AT ALL without being penalized. That already made me feel like my "lifeline" wasn't on my team, which doesn't add to the non-welcoming feel of this cold empty environment. As far as the game Attic Society goes, it was the most disappointing part. Nothing was exciting or interesting when we found or opened things. It felt like we're solving the same puzzle sequence over and over with different "clues" that were the equivalent to kids toys that you'd find in a day care. The whole game itself didn't flow, just random low budget props and pieces that didn't connect with anything else. It was incredibly boring, and not exciting or fun. There were not any gadgets or props where you go "whoa I've never seen that before." Or "WOW, I never expected that to happen!". When we had to ask for a clue, you can tell they don't paying attention to the game because they stop your time and say, "uh, what have you solved or need help on." If anything, it's given me an appreciation for the 100% better escape rooms in the dfw area like The Escape Room in Southlake or Escape HQ in second. At least theirs has a story that flows, amazing helpful staff, and gets your brain working on difficult and fun puzzles and riddles that are super cool and interesting and make sense. It was nice they let us finish it, even though we lost. However the over all experience of the game just wasn't fun enough to even get it two stars. Maybe their other rooms are better, but after playing a game with paper stapled walls, I'm skeptical to try the others. This place is awesome! I took my entire department of 47 here for a fun day of team building. Everyone had a great time. The rooms were very challenging. Not like some of the other escape rooms where it is very easy to get out. You have to really work together and try hard to make it out. The staff is amazing. They care so much and truly love what they do. I spent almost 30 minutes talking with the owner about his ambitions for the future. Last night, my boyfriend, two friends, and I went to Escape Expert's new location in Plano. I had been once before at their Dallas location; their Plano location is even better. They have more rooms and better puzzles to solve. We had so much fun! I was really impressed with their new additions to the game. I don't want to give away the secrets to the room...but their tools are no longer "low tech." It's really cool how they've incorporated lights into the clues. If you're looking for a different activity and something that utilizes your brain, you will not be disappointed with Escape Expert. I can't wait to go back and try a different room. Clever, well-designed, and true to the spirit of the Escape Game. I've been to 10 such locations and consider Escape Expert to be one of my favorites. You can expect to be challenged reasonably and learn a lot about yourselves and your teammates in these challenges! (MORE DETAILED REVIEW BELOW) My group of college students (4, aged 20) researched thoroughly and chose this location while in the Dallas area. We were met with a passionate staff and a refreshing take on the Escape Game concept - instead of "hand-holding" your way through a challenge to make you feel like a winner, it painted the rules clearly and didn't back down from them. We competed in the 10% success rate "Dead End" room, which (no spoilers here) had a haunted theme with a simple background story. We completed it in about 55 minutes, and loved the experience. (ROOM-SPECIFIC REVIEW BELOW) "Dead End," in what it gained with its dark atmosphere and excellent attention to interior design and sound effects, was actually lacking in clue diversity. Most of the clues were tied to numbered or lettered locks, which (although providing some embedding of the "death lab" theme) didn't really stretch the imagination in terms of problem-solving. What we enjoyed was the "webbed clue" format of the room, in which several elements can be simultaneously completed to arrive to the conclusion (allowing for groups to split-up and solve individual cases) instead of following a linear path. The ending was extremely clever and well-respected. (SUMMARY) Definitely try this room, amongst others at this location. It's a great place that takes pride in their work. With limited exceptions, we found this visit to be a deeply satisfying one. read more

They may have been the first true escape room in the area, but while they were closed down they were left in the dust. Bad design, cheap sets, poor game-mastering can't be covered up with claims about being the "biggest escape room in America" (which, by the way, is not true...) or claiming that their product is too good to groupon and the rest of the escape rooms in the area are inferior. (All of these claims are on their webpage!) Many of the grouponed rooms are much better than all of escape experts (we have played most of the rooms of the 20 or so companies in the area.) The attic is a joke and a time waster for corporate events. There is no plot, no innovation and just a set of about 40 locks where you get a code and then have to proceed to try all 40 locks until you find the right one. It may be the worst escape room in North Texas. They have one competitor left in Plano (the other mysteriously shut down a week after they opened....) That competitor, Breakout, even though it is a national chain, is much better. Escape Expert should really up their game. Check out that competitor first, then go really take a look at some of the rooms in the area like Xcape Adventures in Mesquite. Come on guys, you have the money, you have the site, you have the location, stop making crappy games. Also, don't belittle people that have more experience than you playing games. That was the worst customer service we have had in over 200 escape rooms. When we were being honest about what could be improved, you just said we didn't know what we were talking about. We ARE escape experts, you just claim to be. Listen, make your product better so I can come erase this review. I want good escape rooms in my home town. Needless to say, still better than Escape the Room (other than Décor) You guys don't want to be them, so please be better. read more

I read the reviews that commented about the game master saying "if you fail, then poisonous gas will flow from the vent killing you all..." I agree that this is in very bad taste, and I was sure that no one would continue to use this phrase after it had been pointed out as to how offensive it could be. So, I gave the owners the benefit of the doubt. I assumed it was an innocent mistake in writing the script, and I assumed they would have changed it 4 months later. So when I took my family today, and the exact phrase was read to us, I was shocked. That means they knowingly use this phrase. It's hard to imagine why. There are many other ways to "protect a secret society." Walking a group into a room, telling them they'll be gassed inside that room if they fail, and then leaving those people in the room is in very bad taste. I understand it's fiction, but it's incredibly offensive. The fact that it has been perpetuated every day for several months is shocking. So, as much as we love escape rooms, we won't be back. I've read the manager's "explanation." There is no explanation anyone can give that would make the use of pretending to gas people to death ok. As my oldest daughter pointed out, we even did another escape room where we were blindfolded, handcuffed, and told our captors would return if we didn't escape in time. And yet, that didn't feel as wrong or as creepy as being told we'd be gassed to death in a chamber. We will not be back. read more

I've done both the "Attic Society 1" room and "Dead End". I won't be coming back. If this is your first escape experience you're probably going to have some fun. If you have done other rooms, you'll probably be let down. The Attic Society is not a well thought out room. You feel like you are doing the same puzzle solve sequence over and over. Plus, you can see nearly every lock in the room which means you have to try every combo or potential combo in every one of them. There is not a good flow and you feel like you are brute forcing everything. The room just isn't designed well from the puzzles to the set design. Dead End is better but not great. Similar problems to Attic Society but slightly better flow. Set design is good in here. What made me mad in here is a clue hidden behind something that said do not touch. We even paid for a clue with time and it was a cryptic clue. I'd take a hard pass on this place until some things change because there are just so many better rooms in DFW. read more

I've gone to Escape Expert three times now and had a blast every time! The staff is so helpful and fun! The rooms are quite challenging which I really enjoyed. I love that each room I've experienced has been so different from the one before. Each time I go, I take a new set of friends so they can experience this great place and every time when we leave, everyone wants to go again. Absolutely fantastic! We went with family and friends and had an amazing time! We did the Chase Case room and unfortunately we did not escape within the hour, but they didn't have back to back bookings so they gave us a little extra time and we did beat the room.
