Today I accompanied my oldest son to run some errands near San Gabriel. Since it's quite a drive from Irvine, I finally took the opportunity to visit Er Wa Cold Pot Fish, a place I've been wanting to try for a long time! The restaurant was even nicer than I expected, with a beautiful traditional Chinese atmosphere. Besides the regular 4-person booths, they even have large tables for family gatherings. This time, we ordered almost all of our family favorites Signature Cold Pot Sea Bass with Pork Intestines Added Bullfrog The portion was huge ! Besides the fresh sea bass and pork intestines, the pot was loaded with tofu, cucumber, bean sprouts, and other vegetables. It arrived at the table overflowing with food . The sea bass was incredibly tender and flavorful, soaking up all the delicious broth. The pork intestines were soft and rich, and the bullfrog was fresh, meaty, and not fishy at all. Every bite was delicious . Cantonese Chinese Sausage I didn't get a single bite The moment it hit the table, my three little monsters devoured it! They almost started arguing over the last piece Houttuynia Salad (Fish Mint) When I ordered it, the server asked: "The flavor is pretty unique. Have you had it before?" I actually ordered it specifically for my husband. It's not something you see often on restaurant menus in the U.S., and my husband absolutely loves it. The moment I saw it on the menu, I knew I had to take some home for him That evening, he was so happy when he saw it. Definitely worth bringing back Shredded Chicken Cold Noodles I expected Sichuan-style cold noodles to be quite spicy, but they were actually tangy, refreshing, and only mildly spicy. All three of my kids loved them The service was excellent as well. Since we were dining with children, the staff was very patient and helpful in adjusting the spice level and recommending kid-friendly options. Overall, we had a wonderful experience Definitely worth the two-hour round trip from Irvine‼
I had an incredible dining experience at Erwa Cold Pot Fish--the restaurant has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, and the service was warm, attentive, and super prompt. The signature Cold Pot Fish was amazingly tender and rich in flavor, especially when paired with their signature peanut-scallion dipping sauce, while the bouncy cold jelly noodles and flavorful spicy duck heads made the meal complete. Everything was authentic, generous in portion, and packed with flavor, making it a must-visit spot for any spicy food lover!
Come here again after work with my friends and there's no disappointment. The fish was great and it was so tasty. We got the duck again and it was good portion and we all love it. It was really busy at the restaurant but the service was still good. We enjoyed dining in and would keep coming back.
They don't come to play with the spiciness. My fav dish was the cold noodles, it was the perfect texture although verrry spicy. Cold pot fish was not actually cold, it's still warm but just not kept on a burner. The fish was very tender and I liked the tofu/veggies that came inside the soup. You can also order other items to put in the pot (like spam, wood ear mushroom, more veggies, etc). We got mild spicy and it was still challenging (as expected for sichuan cuisine) so be prepared to order lots of white rice.
Hidden gem forsure, the food here is delicious! At first by the name I thought cold fish, that sounded disgusting but it actually the pot is warm and it was so flavorful and tasty. The service was great and they speak both fluent English & Mandarin. We had a party of four and had plenty of food with these options. Erwa Cold Pot - Served hot. There are many options but we opted for the cheapest version which came with a boneless fish. The difference in options was mostly the different types of fish they use. Came with a nice mix of veggies, spam, fish, tofu. Loved it, and we got it mild which wasn't too spicy even though it looked like it was. (4.5/5) Roasted Duck Chengdu Style - I've never had roasted duck in a soup but this was delicious. Unique and definitely something I've never tried before. My favorite. (5/5) Marinated Beef Tendon - It's a nice bite, not super tender but had a chew. Flavors were good and came with a spicy sauce. Tasty! (4/5) Noodles in spicy sauce - Was a nice cold noodles in a soy sauce styled sauce. It was a tasty compliment to the meal. (4.5/5) Overall would recommend this unique spot. It's not something I'd normally go after but totally glad I gave it a try since the food is delicious and I felt it was very reasonably priced. For 4 people we spent ~ $100 and had small amount of leftover after.
This place really lives up to the hype--I finally came to check it out! We ordered the Tomato Black Fish Pot (small size). The fish had no bones at all, and the tomato broth was tangy, slightly sweet, and not spicy--perfect for kids to enjoy. We also tried the Fatty Intestine & Fish Pot (medium size). It's made with organic "champagne fish," and having both fish and intestine in one pot was so satisfying--double the happiness! The portions are very generous, with plenty of ingredients and veggies in the broth. It's the ultimate rice-killer dish--I almost couldn't stop myself from having extra bowls of rice . The waiter was nice and the dishes she recommended were very suitable for us. Pro tip: Don't miss their dipping sauce. One bite and you'll be hooked--the flavor is spot on! Honestly, I'm jealous of friends living in San Gabriel, because they can come here anytime for such delicious cold pot fish!
The restaurant is well apportioned and has enjoyable decorations. The service was attentive and kind. We never went without a need or desire. This restaurant is a hidden gem in with some delicious and different dishes! 二娃冷鍋魚 is where traditional Chinese culinary craftsmanship meets innovative flavors. You are sure to find a few things on the menu you must have a me some you wanna try! While the name is "cold fish" no cold fish is served, rather it is a style where the food is prepared in a pot in the kitchen and slightly cools as it is brought to the table as opposed to hot pot. Super fresh and flavorful! Their spicy Champagne Fish is amazing. The Tomato Beef & Tofu Pot is rich and comforting, and the Sichuan cold noodles are authentic and delicious. Great portions, great flavors. Highly recommend!
I ordered the popular shredded chicken noodles and konjac jelly noodle and both were super oily and too spicy for my taste. The soup for the shredded chicken cold noodle was entirely chili oil and a bit of vinegar and sweet soy sauce but it was too overwhelmingly oily. The konjac jelly spicy noodle was even more spicy with thai chilis and a more sour taste and the noodles absorbed all of the chili oil which made it too greasy. I would try something else other than the noodles next time but I would not recommend these noodles if you can not handle your spice well. I would recommend to ask for the sauce separately so you can add to your own taste and spice tolerance.
They have a lunch special every Monday to Friday for $36.99 for two people, which is very cost-effective. You get an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. For the appetizer, we ordered spicy jelly noodles and for the main course, we ordered spicy cold pot fish include two bowls of rice. The dessert also comes with a sweet ice jelly. Their fish portion is super big, the two of us can't finish it, and we can take a big pot home. It's very good deal and highly recommended. location in the San Gabriel city on the valley blvd.
To my surprise, the fish was actually hot and not cold. I went to my good friend, Google, and learned that it's called "cold pot" because the fish is fully cooked in the kitchen and then served in a pot, where it's left to cool slightly; whereas in hotpot, the food is cooked at the table. I don't have Sichuan food often but everyone at my table enjoyed it, including me, so I know it was good. I loved the numbing spice from the broth and peppercorns but I needed rice to offset the spice a bit. We chose the blackened fish fillet with a medium spice level, which I don't regret, but if you're weak with spice I would lower it a bit. I balanced all the spice by eating the spicy and sour golden soup, a dish that was much milder and comforting. It wasn't spicy at all but there was a bit of tanginess and a generous amount of beef belly. The hot and sour jelly noodle was alright since it wasn't as chewy as I would have liked. The chopped cucumber in garlic sauce is a good side dish since it also functions as a palette cleanser. Overall, the service was great and the food came out relatively quickly. There's a lot of booths and tables so this place seems like it's great for groups.
Sichuan food has a special place in my heart, especially the dishes with the numbing peppercorns, and Erwa Cold Pot Fish in San Gabriel, California, brings the heat in its namesake dish contrary to the name of how it is served Without an open flame at our table, we still enjoyed an incredibly hot (in temperature and spice) and so flavorful Spicy Cold Pot Fish. The marinated shredded Pig Ears are a must order for me, and @erwacoldpotfish's version here may have been my favorite of the meal and quite possibly the best Pig Ears I've ever had If you are a big fan of duck, I highly recommend their BBQ Duck Stew. Came across this spot while yelping and deciding to give it a try. It's a small place located in the plaza in San Gabriel next to melo melo. Comparing to our typical place to eat, this place is definitely different. We ordered hot and sour jelly noodles, erwa cold pot fish, fish mint in chili sauce, sliced beef with chili powder, and chicken cold noodle. All dishes were yummy. But beware they are spicy and numbing kick especially the soup. But overall, it's a must try.
My parents brought me to this Sichuan restaurant, so I had a feeling we'd have a good meal here. The three of us ordered the Cold Pot Sea Bass, Black Fish Fillet, Spicy Jelly Salad, and cold jelly salad. The portions were really generous--we actually had quite a bit left to take home. The Cold Pot Sea Bass was our main dish, with big, tender pieces of fish that were packed with flavor. We went with the medium spicy mala option since we enjoy spicy food, and the heat was just right for us--fragrant, spicy, and not too overwhelming. The Black Fish Fillet was also so good with rice. The sauerkraut and all the ingredients in the broth were flavorful, and even the tofu was something I kept going back for . The Spicy cold Jelly Salad had fragrant chili oil with a light numbing kick, which made it really appetizing. We honestly thought we might not have enough food, but we ended up taking a big portion home. Everything was so good with rice, especially after mixing the fish and sauce with it. If you enjoy spicy food and Sichuan flavors, this is definitely a place to keep on your list. read more

I've been here several times because the weekday lunch special is a great value, and the portions have always been generous. Today, there were three of us. We ordered the same items that are included in the lunch special because that's what we always come here for. After placing our order, I noticed they had entered everything as regular menu items instead of the lunch special. I immediately corrected them that we re ordering the lunch special not the regular menus, but the staff refused. she told us the lunch special was only for two people, that it wouldn't be enough food for three adults, and also said the kitchen had already started preparing the order so they couldn't change . end up even with everything ordered as regular menu items, 3 of us couldn't finish the food. We packed almost everything to go. Because of that, what should have been around a $40 lunch turned into a $104 bill The most frustrating part is that everything they insisted we order was far too much. Three adults couldn't even finish it. We had to pack most of the food to go (see the attached photo). The photo clearly shows there was still plenty of food left in the fish pot, along with all the extra ingredients they recommended we add. I don't mind paying for good food. What I mind is being told I needed to order significantly more food when we couldn't even finish what they insisted we order. I've been a repeat customer, but after today's experience, I won't be coming back. read more

The "cold pot" isn't cold at all -- the fish is cooked first and served hot, which makes the slices extra tender and smooth. They're generous with the fish, and everything soaks up the broth nicely. The golden soup tofu beef is a must-order -- sour, comforting, and packed with ingredients. We also tried the lemon teas and they were super refreshing, not overly sweet, perfect with spicy food. If you can't make it for lunch, they have great dinner items that's perfect for large parties. They are not skimpy on the proteins whether it be fish, chicken, pork, or duck. This shop go viral on social media, definitely a hidden gem! The fish is so fresh and delicious, the dipping sauce is the best in the San Gabriel valley! It's the perfect dish for the cold season, although it called cold fish pot. Actually it's hot and spicy. Very good balance of flavors, the aroma and flavor are very well fixed. It's not only spicy but also a great addition of garlic and spices. I definitely recommend it. read more

I went here for lunch and it was the best deal I've had for a long time. The set was $36.99 and it's meant for 2 people (so like $20 pp) but the portion is very large you can take home to have another meal and it's very delicious. The set has 1 large sharing pot, 1 cold noodle, 2 rice and 2 dessert. The "suan cai yu" large pot is very delicious I really love it. Dessert was very nice too. I never had such a nice meal for a long time. They played Chinese singing show in the restaurant which really took me back to Asia. read more

Came here for the famous cold pot fish and it did not disappoint. The fish was tender, flavorful, and perfectly spicy. We also ordered the spicy frog, liangfen, and braised platter -- everything was delicious and great for sharing. Portions are generous and very satisfying. Authentic Sichuan flavors with bold seasoning. Service was friendly and food came out quickly. Definitely a great spot if you're craving something spicy in SGV. Will be back again. read more
I went to have lunch at Erwa Cold Pot Fish with my daughter because we had a day off for Veterans Day. The restaurant wasn't too busy because it was a Monday and a holiday so we got our food really fast! We ordered a bunch and took the rest home for dinner to share with my husband and my other daughter. The hot pot dishes were so amazing!! The noodles were my absolute favorite but I couldn't eat it all since I had to take it home to my daughter who loves spicy noodles. Be meat dishes were both so flavorful and delicious, my 5 year old almost devoured the entire plate! Even tho we ordered more than enough for 4 adults, it was only a $100. We came in on Saturday late at noon (it was almost 1 p.m.). It was not too crowded, so we got seated right away. The place was in a small, busy plaza. The good thing was that they have underground parking as you drive into the back of the plaza. There's also elevator access from the underground parking to the ground. There were also three of us, and we ordered the signature cold pot fish. Just to be clear, the fish was hot but served in a cold (room temperature, no additional heating) pot. You can also choose add-ons to the pot. We added a couple of veggie options to the pot. The fish was fresh and well-prepared, with no aftertaste at all! You can choose the spicy level. I forgot to take a picture of the sauce. You can eat the fish and everything else in the pot as they are served. I preferred to use the sauce. It was like hot oil splashed onto some seasoning, chopped green onions, and fried soybeans; it was very savory and killed the spiciness a little bit somehow. It was a good match. The duck head was my first lifetime try. It looked scary at first. I made the outside of the skull face to the plates so I could not see the shape of the head. Judging from the chili pepper on top of it, it was not as spicy as I expected. The mixture of the chili and peanuts increased the overall savory components. It was an interesting experience. I did not end up drinking a lot of water after the meal, which means they did not add too much message/ salt. I will come back next time to have the fish and try some other things! Service was fine. We recently stopped by to check this spot out during a visit to LA. On weekdays they have this deal that feeds 2 people for only $36.99 so we had to try it. You get a hot pot and a side to share and the portions are huge! Of course we had to order double portions though since we live far and wanted lunch the next day We tried: Golden Beef Pot + Cold Jelly Noodles Fish in Spicy Pickle Broth w/ Cold Noodles w/ Shredded Chicken We have no idea why they call it cold pot. The pots come out piping hot and delicious. The beef pot was just loaded with thinly sliced tender beef and tofu. The fish pot had so much buttery white fish in this slightly sour, subtly spicy tingly broth that we couldn't get enough of. The different cold noodles on the side were the perfect contrast. At the end they brought us a cold jelly dessert with dried fruits that was the perfect way to cool off. We already want to go back for more! read more

We ordered the weekday two-person lunch combo along with a few recommended signature dishes for a truly authentic Sichuan feast! Golden Soup Pickled Fish Combo We chose the golden soup pickled fish as part of the weekday lunch combo. The sour broth was rich, tangy, and appetizing, and the fish was incredibly tender . The tofu and vermicelli absorbed the flavorful broth, making every bite satisfying. The combo also included a Sichuan-style side dish, two bowls of rice , and two servings of ice jelly . All of this for just $37--great value and very filling! Braised Roast Duck This dish was unique: the duck is roasted first, then braised in a flavorful broth. The duck meat soaked up all the delicious soup flavors, making it incredibly aromatic. The pot also included luncheon meat, duck blood, and bean sprouts, which added layers of texture. Cucumber Salad & Braised Meats For cold dishes, we ordered the cucumber salad and braised beef tendon with pig's ears. The cucumber salad was refreshing and balanced out the spiciness of the other dishes. The braised beef tendon and pig's ears were flavorful, chewy, and savory--great as appetizers to whet your appetite. Every dish at Erwa Cold Pot Fish was authentically Sichuan, making it a perfect spot for spice lovers! The portions were generous, the flavors were on point, and the prices were super reasonable. Delicious! We made it extra spicy, so it became "just a bit spicy" for me as a Chinese local from Hubei province. I hope they can serve the dish while being heated. It's quite expensive though. read more
