Ruby had her first TPLO surgery in August 2025 and the second in October 2025. It was expensive but we're thrilled... we got our Ruby back! She's walking, running, having fun at the beach - all pain free. Our family is once again making memories with our girl. I highly recommend Sage and the TPLO procedure.

I had a very difficult experience with this SAGE emergency vet services, and I feel conflicted…read moreabout how to review them because there were both compassionate and deeply frustrating aspects of my time with them. First, I want to acknowledge that the staff were kind, gentle, and clearly cared about both me and my cat. During an incredibly emotional time, they treated us with empathy, and I'm grateful for that. However, my cat was in renal failure, and I don't feel that I was ever given a clear or honest understanding of how serious her condition truly was. I was repeatedly told that her situation was treatable, particularly once she started eating again. She ended up staying there for three nights, and while I was told she had begun eating at the clinic, when I brought her home she still wasn't eating and was in very poor condition. What's most difficult for me is that she passed away the day after I brought her home, after I had spent nearly $16,000 on her care. Looking back, I strongly wish someone had been more candid with me about her prognosis and whether euthanasia might have been the most humane option. I feel like I wasn't given the information I needed to make an informed decision about her end-of-life care. I don't doubt the compassion of the staff, but I do wish there had been clearer communication and more medical guidance during such a critical time. For anyone going through something similar, I would encourage asking very direct questions about prognosis and quality of life, as I wish I had been guided more firmly in that direction.

*First time review, not about vet services but customer service*…read more I showed up here to book an appointment for my kitten who had a bump on her nose. I panicked despite taking her to my local vet (he told me to wait 2 weeks for the antibiotics to work before I do anything else). Long story short, I did end up pushing my appt out to wait, but with all my anxiety and pushing my appt out, the staff at Sage were very nice. They were understanding and I ended up cancelling all together because my vet was right, her bump did go away! 4 stars as they're quite expensive. A consultation just to see a doctor would have been $384 and they take a deposit of $96. I can see charging a lot for emergency but not a scheduled visit a week out. Anywho, luckily my sweetheart got better and I didn't have to take her in. Overall decent experience with their team.

3 stars because the vets are incredibly talented and will do every single thing to help your pet…read more They will not give up on your pet. Their vet staff is so loving and caring. The front desk however, may be getting a bonus for getting you to put your pet down instead of opting for emergency surgery. It seemed like the front desk woman reeeeaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyy wanted us to euthanize our dog. Almost like she was invested in putting our dog down. But then 10 min later we went in the back where he was on oxygen and he was doing way better. Surgery was successful and dog is doing great. Thank you Sage Cardiology. People, do not listen to the front desk!!!! if you can afford it ALWAYS opt for emergency treatment. Always always always!! Their intake team are NOT veterinarians and their job is to give you the worst possible expectations so nothing can come back to them if the unfortunate thing happens and your pet passes away. They don't want you to come back and say "you said XYZ". The intake team is for company protection, not doing the best for YOUR pet. Do not let them sway you.

    * We rushed our dog to Sage Emergency in Dublin after he choked on a dental treat that got stuck…read more The X-rays showed that it was lodged at the junction between his esophagus and stomach. Dr. Beth Lieblick assessed everything quickly and chose the least invasive option first. After anesthesia, she was able to push the blockage down into his stomach so he could digest it naturally instead of going straight to a major surgery. Our dog stayed overnight for monitoring and came home the next morning safe and stable. Communication was clear the entire time, and the team was professional, calm, and genuinely kind during a very stressful situation. * In terms of cost, this is emergency care, so it is expensive. The initial diagnostic alone was around 1300 dollars. With bloodwork, X rays, anesthesia, the procedure, overnight monitoring, and medications, the estimate initially went up to 14000 dollars. The final total ended up being about 6600 dollars after adjustments. Even knowing emergency care costs more, it is still a financial shock when you are facing a possible life threatening situation for a family member. * We are giving 4 stars. The doctor and team absolutely deserve recognition for their professionalism and friendliness. The only reason we are taking off one star is the price. While we understand emergency care is costly, the numbers can feel overwhelming. Our advice is to get pet insurance if possible. If a bill in the thousands or potentially over ten thousand would be difficult, it is worth researching emergency options ahead of time. For us, what mattered most is that our family member came home safe.

Brought my cat into Sage Friday night as he was not feeling well. After running tests was told he…read moreshould stay overnight for observation/treatment and would need an ultrasound as the xray did not show anything conclusive. That night as I am checking out one of the staff members tells me they would have to call a specialist the next morning to do the ultrasound so after the procedure is done they would call me with an update. Agreeing with their recommendation I agreed to pay $6500 for the visit and the next day procedure. The assistant said with additional medication the cost could go to $8200 or higher depending on the finding. I should have asked for a list of procedures that were done and a breakdown of costs, but at that moment I was more concerned with the wellbeing of my family member. I called the next morning around 8am to check how my cat is doing. The person said the veterinarian is doing their rounds now so someone would call me back an hour or two later. I receive a phone call around noon and was told I would have to pay an additional $4500 for the ultrasound and with additional tests they recommended would in total be around $15,000. When questioned what was included in the $6500, I received a response of, "oh that was included." When asked why the ultrasound was not done yet, they said a specialist would need to be called as it was the weekend. When I told them that last night someone said that it would be done the next day, they said, "not sure why someone would say that?" I tell them that I want to pick up my cat to bring to another location. Upon arrival an assistant brings me my cat and promptly asks my to sign a waiver. When I asked who I spoke with over the phone that quoted me $4500 for the ultrasound, the assistant said the veterinarian. When I tell them to refund me the cost it suddenly became $1100. I told them if it was $1100 I wanted to go through with the ultrasound , BUT since I told them I wanted to go to another clinic, putting the iv in and what not back on him would cost more. At this point I feel like I am getting taken advantage of so I wound up leaving. Before I left I asked for a receipt showing what procedures were done to only get a email with a charge of $6500 minus the cost of ultrasound $1100. Bottom line this place seems more interested in taking your money than the health of your pet. I would highly recommend avoiding this clinic.

It's hard to put into words how important SAGE was for us…read more They helped us with one-off urgent care visits. They provided critical care when our frenchie overheated, aspirated and got pneumonia. She wasn't going to make it, and yet she pulled through under their care. It led to a successful BOAS surgery at SAGE later that month. We got an extra four amazing years with her as a result. They recently assisted us with diagnosing some scary symptoms. We unfortunately weren't able to fix it this time - it was out of our control. SAGE was right there with us providing medical advice, offering patience as we navigated the emotions, and offering support when we had our last moments with our girl. So heartbreaking, yet so thankful for their care. They're an invaluable addition to the community - from the nice folks at the front desk, to the nurses, doctors and surgeons. After all our pup went through there, she was still so excited to walk through their doors and greet the staff. Thank you, SAGE team.

Here's why: * Customer service is abysmal. Not once would they give a rough estimate of wait time. From front desk to doctors, everyone seems burnt out and annoyed. Instead of actually answering questions, staff just repeat the same sentence over and over as though people don't speak English. * Outrageous pricing with zero transparency. They quoted over $2,000 for an x-ray and bloodwork for a lethargic cat with normal vitals -- and took over 3 hours just to produce that estimate, without even physically examining the animal. When probed about the estimate they just disappeared and never came back to the room. * The facility was filthy. Clumps of hair and sticky residue everywhere you looked. * Intentional opacity. Automatic locks on waiting room doors, purposefully blurred windows so you can't see what's happening with your pet, and (again) zero logic communicated around wait times or pricing. Every other modern facility offers some degree of transparency - not Sage. * No awareness of or empathy for distressed pet owners waiting in their ER. The service was so bad (despite there being only one other animal in the ER) that we left and went to SF Animal Medical Care on Fillmore instead. It was dramatically cleaner, the staff was genuinely helpful, and we saw an actual doctor within 30 minutes (not just a vet tech relaying messages, which seems to be Sage's preferred approach). Don't buy the excuse that it "depends on how busy we are." They were barely busy and still failed on every front. They simply lack care and attention to detail across the board. Do yourself a favor: if your pet is unwell after hours, start with SF AMC or wait until the morning and go to Modern Animal. Sage sucks.

I've had horrible experiences here with two different dogs at two different life stages. The…read morethrough line is that they dont check your animals' medical records, their care is completely substandard, and they have zero compassion for you or your pets. I took my senior dog here to get treated for vestibular disease. He seemed to be on the mend when he became lethargic two days later. I rushed there just for a different vet to tell me I needed to euthanize him because he was "no longer himself anymore." It was clear she didn't read his chart bc he was a healthy dog before those last couple hours. In shock, I pressed for more info and she shared he had a 102 degree fever. I pleaded with her to give him fluids and treat his fever. he completely recovered until passing of old age two years later. I recently took my 4 month old rescue puppy here after he started throwing up all food and fluids. Suspecting kennel cough, they grabbed him from my car and took him to their isolation rooms. After much waiting and worry, the vet comes out and sternly tells me the puppy bit their tech and he's being reported to the county and they're worried he has rabies. I'm completely shocked and flabbergasted they didn't bother to read the vaccination records I shared or care that he's a traumatized former stray dog I've had for a week. I would have thought precautions would have been taken to either be gentle with a traumatized puppy or use a muzzle. Knowing I took him there for dehydration, they keep him alone in a kennel for nearly four hours, giving zero water because they "didn't want him to throw up." I called several times for updates and eventually had to park myself at the front desk, or it probably would have been an even longer wait. Finally I get one dropper of meds for kennel cough, get him home, and he immediately throws it up. That was the reason I took him there in the first place except now he's even more dehydrated. I desperately call and they say the doctor will call back asap. Did they call? Of course not. A second dog of mine would have died needlessly if id trusted their care. Thankfully a kind vet close to home agreed to see him after hours, gave him IV fluids, and prescribed meds for coughing and nausea. PS Sage recommended $1,100 worth of needless tests and x-rays that refused because I didn't want him there alone for four more hours with no food or water. But didn't feel the need to prescribe any meds that would help him eat or drink. If you love your dogs stay far far away from this place unless you have no other choice. I've never been so disappointed in an organization in my life.

She fought for him - fought to keep him alive. After she was finally able to get a specialty care hospital to take him and he was transferred, she called daily to check up on him even after he was discharged from VEG.
