Because of this, I went more than twenty years of my life with a less-than-ideal glasses/contact lens prescription for my myopia and astigmatism. Every optometrist and ophthalmologist was always just like, "Well, I can't get your eyes to focus long enough to read this eye chart, so just keep the same prescription you've had since you were in kindergarten, I guess." It was so frustrating. Last year, I found Dr. Marrocco, who describes herself as the doctor you go to when none of the other doctors can help you. This is spot on! During my eye exam, she was calm, patient, and reassuring, which is really important for patients with nystagmus because the eyes tend to shake faster when the patient is stressed. She is warm, caring, and takes her time to ensure you'll get the most accurate prescription. Since I was born with nystagmus, astigmatism, and severe myopia (we're talking -12.5 in one eye and -14.5 in the other), I have met a LOT of eye doctors in my life, and I can say with complete confidence that Dr. Marrocco is the very best doctor if, like me, you're terrible at eye exams and dread them more than the dentist.
