Janessa was super helpful working to find me the right frame for my glasses considering I couldn't see and they had the glasses done before I left.

I had an awesome experience with Dr. Torrey at The Bent Lens!…read more From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the friendly staff and impressed by the clean, modern office located in a really cool building. Dr. Torrey took the time to thoroughly explain my eye health, discuss preventative care and maintenance, and walk me through my insurance options in a way that was easy to understand. I never felt rushed, and all of my questions were answered with patience and professionalism. It's clear that Dr. Torrey genuinely cares about his patients and takes pride in providing excellent care. I left feeling informed, confident, and well taken care of. I would highly recommend Dr. Torrey and The Bent Lens to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, friendly, and thorough eye doctor.

In any type of retail, especially if medically related like your eyesight/vision, customers should be provided all options for any type of lenses and the beauty of being the one paying is that THEY get to decide what to buy and how much they want to spend. That ability was taken away from me here. My prescription is very very minimal. I've had corrective eye surgeries so I don't need much at all. I picked out a pair of frames that I liked and told the person to go ahead and place my order. I had to come back in to get measured and she said they'll call me when the glasses area ready. I didn't realize until pickup that somehow, for this very simple and very minimal prescription that the glasses were $300-$400!! Say, what??? I was like ok... I paid it and I said I'm going to be checking with my insurance because this isn't right. There's no way for what I was getting it should cost me that much. I also asked for a more detail receipt, not just an amount, but give details on what exactly I was charged. Well, what I found out in the emailed detailed documentation that the person who works there who took my order decided for herself that I was going to buy the MOST expensive lenses possible. I am very upset she did that and never ASKED me what I, the person paying, wanted to buy. She never gave me any options. She never explained anything. I mean, that's your job is to lay out and describe to me what my purchase options are. She just went ahead and ordered the most expensive thing on my behalf. I didn't think of it during the purchase process (why isn't she showing & explaining lens options...) because that part is their job #1 and #2, I haven't purchased glasses in a really really long time due to my corrective eye surgeries. I didn't even think of what she was *not* doing correctly. So, I called and has this discussion and I needed some of this money back. No way am I paying almost $400 for glasses that barely have any prescription to them, thus I will barely even need/use. I liked the frames so I wanted to keep them and she offered getting the lenses remade. And I'm feeling like, I don't know that I want to do business with them again. So that wasn't my preference given what just happened, how nothing was explained and I was just charged without my consent. Next I said what if I just return the lenses and she said she would refund me. So, that's what I ended up doing. To me it's really ridiculous that she couldn't refund me the difference for the less expensive lenses and allow me to keep the lenses already manufactured and in the frame. -- THAT would have been the ideal response. -- THAT would have saved losing me as a customer for life. So, now we are just going to fully waste the most expensive, perfectly good lenses, sized only for my frames, and with my own prescription for absolutely nothing? Great. How stupid. She is the one who grossly messed up and she should have allowed me to keep those lenses for her mistake instead of being so wasteful. I'm out.

However, they wasted two hours of my time, I guess so that they could get me in front of a doctor to tell me I had a problem with dry eyes and then do a test with which they tried to give me a chiropractor-style sales pitch to say that I needed a care plan for some sort of chronic dry eye problem. Like they said the veins in my eyelid weren't long enough. Yeah, right. No thanks. As if that wasn't enough, they asked for my actual health insurance info, which I thought was weird. Then at the end, they said my insurance didn't cover the exam, so I paid the full amount, as adjusted by my *vision insurance*. Well, yesterday, 6 months after my appointment, I got a letter from my health insurance about benefits received that they aren't covering. Yeah, North Park billed my HEALTH INSURANCE, so now I'm going to have to pay them, probably. They double dipped. On top of that, I noticed they have posters all around their offices targeted at parents, where they're trying to exploit their worries about their childrens' performance in school and suggest that some kind of eye operations will solve their learning problems. Yeah, this place is running every kind of scam they can. Skip it.

I had my eye appointment last week to have a contact lens, and, medical eye exam, and yes, I always…read moreopt for the additional $50 Optomap Retinal Imaging. My first quote- realizing it was a quote for just a medical eye exam and contact lens exam- was $420 ( Optomap wasn't included in that quote.) I figured that was really high cost wise. The exams themselves were fine. The Optometrist I had was fine, however, she never once mentioned other brands of lenses that I may be interested in. After all was said and done, I ended up paying $1245 for "top of the line" contacts, and exams. Dr. Rob had told me years ago to run it through medical insurance because it would be cheaper, and, it was. This time, medical didn't pick up a dime, and my VSP only covered $180 towards the lenses (originally $900...) and part of the contact lens exam. While I understand this seems more like an insurance issue, I can honestly say, I think they ripped me off bigly! Not even a discussion about lenses that would be cheaper or more budget friendly, especially seeing beforehand what my insurances would and would not pay for. I had seen that FVC was proud to offer "free" eye exams for schools, Disabled Veterans and another group of people. While I am not against this, "free" is a stretch. They know they need to completely overcharge their existing customers (I have been one for over 25 years now.. no longer!) for "free" exams. My Mother had her eye exam done today at Visionworks. Contact lens exam and yes, they have the retinal imaging scan, too. They charged her an additional $39 for that scan. After all was said and done for her, she paid $335 for her exams, retinal scan and a years worth of monthly lenses - also, I don't understand FVC's need to constantly push for daily lenses? I don't know what they have against monthly lenses. One last thing to mention about FVC and their bedside manner. My Mother and Father were also patients of FVC a few years ago. My Father had extreme rheumatoid arthritis and ultimately passed away from it , in January. When he saw Dr. Rob the last time he was there, it had been more than a year since his last exam. My Father explained to him because of his condition- needing infusions every month, his hands were completely warped from the arthritis and my Mother was doing everything she could for him, he told my Dad "That was no excuse for missing a yearly eye exam." Guess what? They never went back, my Father went elsewhere, he had cataract surgery, and was seeing 20/20 for the first time since he was 4 years old. To say I was irate after hearing Dr. Rob's comment to my Father is an understatement. You just lost another customer, Family Vision Center!
