This optical shop & office is tucked away inside an old building along Main St. across from Pump House. I'd honestly never noticed it before, but upon doing some research found that they accepted my vision insurance, VSP, and decided to give them a try. I truly enjoyed my contact lens appointment with Dr. Neka. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and happily answered all of my questions. She even took the time to look into additional concerns I had regarding things I'd been told by a past optometrist, and reassured me that there was no sign of what I'd been told (allegedly, I was showing signs of cataracts developing, even though I'm only 26). I am writing to express my disappointment with the customer service I received during my visit to The Optical Center today. A couple of weeks ago, I visited your store and was assisted by Chelsea. That experience was outstanding. She took the time to carefully select several frames for me to try on, made recommendations based on fit, and provided the kind of attentive service every customer hopes to receive. There was also another friendly gentleman at the front desk who, at Chelsea's request, looked up my records from when Jeff Lees owned and managed The Optical Center. I mentioned to Chelsea that I had purchased several pairs of glasses from Jeff years ago when I lived in the Firestone area. I also explained that I now live in Highlands Ranch, over an hour away, and had driven all the way to Longmont because of the positive experiences I had previously enjoyed at your store. After narrowing my choices to a couple of frames, Chelsea told me she would contact me with the frame details and pricing. A few days later, Chelsea called me at work and asked whether I could come in that Friday. I explained that I couldn't make it that day but that I would come the following Saturday while the shop was open. When I arrived today, however, the experience was completely different. The moment I walked through the door, I was met with one of the coldest receptions I have ever received from a retailer. Chelsea's facial expression and tone were noticeably unwelcoming. Thinking perhaps she didn't recognize me, I greeted her and said, "Hi Chelsea, I'm XXX XXXXX, the gentleman you spoke with on the phone a few days ago who was interested in purchasing the frames you selected for me." Even after introducing myself, her demeanor did not change. Having driven over an hour to your store, I asked if I could use the restroom. Instead of allowing me to take a few steps through the small office area to the restroom--as I had done in the past when Jeff Lees owned the business--I was instructed to leave the optical center, walk all the way around through the hallway, and enter from another direction because the office area was "for staff only." While I understand businesses have policies, the interaction itself felt unnecessarily cold and unaccommodating. When I returned from the restroom, the interaction became even more uncomfortable. Without any greeting or welcoming attitude, I was asked, "What do you want? Do you want to see the glasses or what?" At that point, I was genuinely taken aback. I found myself wondering what had changed since my previous visit. I had come prepared to purchase one or possibly two pairs of glasses, but after being treated in such an unfriendly and dismissive manner, I simply said I would think about it and left. I work hard for my money, and I choose to spend it with businesses that appreciate their customers. There are many excellent optical shops much closer to my home that provide friendly, respectful service. Unfortunately, because of today's experience, The Optical Center has lost a loyal repeat customer. Please remove me from your email list, delete my phone number and contact information from your records, and do not contact me in the future. I wanted to share this feedback because the difference between my first visit and today's visit was so dramatic that I felt management should be aware of it. I've had great service from this practice for many years. First with Dr Whitmire and now with Dr Berger. They're very engaged and have very modern equipment, so I feel confident in their monitoring of any eye conditions. I don't have as much experience with the optical shop there, but they've also been pretty good. read more

The short course is that the customer service is not what it used to be, or should be. We went into the shop and asked a specific question, do you have Etnia frames. Rather than showing us the selection they had, the clerk said, 'yes, over there', pointing to where the frames were located. There was no other customer in the shop. read more

I wrote a rave review for this place a few years back but they now have new ownership and new management. There is a very noticeable difference in quality and level of service. Both my husband and I got new lens for existing frames. I was charged incorrectly and had to pay more when I picked up the glasses. My husbands lens were made with one bifocal in the middle of the lens and one at bottom. No one noticed this until he went in a picked them up so now he has to wait to have them remade. They did do a courtesy for us by replacing the lens in an hour rather than a week but it would have been better if they were done right. Hopefully these are start up problems and they will improve moving forward. read more

I recently went in to The Optical Center to buy Sunglasses. They have one of the best selections of Oakley, Nike, Ray-Ban, bolle', and Revo Sunglasses in Longmont. This is the second time that I have purchased sunglass from this shop. The first time they actually informed me that I could use my frame benefit from my insurance to help pay for sunglasses which makes buying high-end sunglasses very affordable. They also have a great selection of regular frames. I must admit that I don't get my vision checked here, but the staff at The Optical Shoppe are first class. Jeff, Karen, and Jenny offered the best customer service and were very helpful from helping me pick the right frame to fitting them properly. Also, the atmosphere was very casual and it didn't feel so clinical like at other optical shops. I highly recommend this business........Plus it is a local business. read more

I was so happy to get help for my rimless glasses on Saturday! The lost screw in the frame had made my glasses unwearable. Checking with Dr. Whitmire, she only took a few minutes and fixed my glass frame with a new tiny bolt! What a blessing, also the receptionist and I had a nice chat regarding many topics of Longmont. I just have to say that if you need glasses or an eye exam, this is the place to go. Sure you can get generic service from Costco, Walmart or any number of other places. If you want superior, friendly and expert service go here. Jeff & Karen are the best! And so is the staff. I have been going hear for years and my glasses are definitely out of warranty, but Jeff just keeps fixing them and saying have a great day. No Charge!!!!! Well, I have great Preventative health care insurance..and there is a BONUS payback to an eye check up by end of Fiscal year, 2013. Time running out! I was so happy to find an office of professionals that accommodated me so quickly.. They did a Stellar job at making you feel comfortable, Part of the family ..and actually cared for. Jenny, the office manager, was super warm and professional, as was Dr. Neka. No bad news. Eyes are fine. I left there feeling great. My next Purchase is corrected sunglasses. Nicest and most genuine people you will find. Have been going to see Jeff and Karen ever since we moved to Longmont 5 years ago and couldn't be happier with the personalized service. I wanted a specialty pair of shooting glasses. I sent Jeff the link the ones I wanted - and he said "leave it with me" Within a week, he had them shipped to his store and then fitted my prescription to the glasses" It was service above and beyond. I hate eye exams, it's just an unpleasant necessity... But Dr. Neka was great! If you appreciate a nice, quiet, friendly local doctor's office, this is your place. Dr. Neka and her receptionist were very unprofessional. I walked back into their office only to hear them talking about me in their back office. Dr Neka called me odd, among other things. Dr Neka saw me standing there and she walked into her next appointment. The receptionist apologized, but it was very insincere. The receptionist accused me of not coming back to their office to order my contacts. The front office apologized for Dr. Neka's behavior, and that was very kind. Go here, at your own risk! read more

They even helped trouble shoot the horrible glasses we got the year before from another downtown optical. These are the best and most reliable people/business in Longmont. The eye doctor office in the back is good, but more than once the front office sales people have left us expecting different results. For example, if you use insurance benefits to purchase sunglasses, they still charge you personally for the shipping cost to the store... where you then have to go pick them up. This is not standard. Dr. Neka was excellent, but she has since opened her own practice in Longmont (Sight Eyecare).. I recommend that instead. read more

Dr. H explained everything he was doing; as well as, how the eye changes as we age. This information was very helpful and comforting. I am from Brooklyn and was traveling around the west side. I ripped my contacts and realized I didn't bring a spare pair. I really needed an emergency pair to get me through the rest of my trip. I stopped by here and they were so helpful and friendly. They were gracious and kind enough to hook me up with a free pair, which was amazing. I tried to pay for them but they refused.
