I made a reservation here for 5pm to celebrate our first Leap Year anniversary. We didn't tell them it was a special occasion, as it was our first time here and wanted to see how good it was. We were seated promptly exactly at 5pm. Our server, Katie, was friendly. We didn't have to ask for anything the entire time we were there. Everything was prompt and her service was the best in recent memory. We ordered a whiskey sour and a drink special (something vodka based). The drink special had crystal clear ice stamped with an "E". Nice touch. Whiskey sour was made correctly with an egg white and perfect. Entrees were the lamb and seafood risotto. We shared each other's as we wanted to try both. Best lamb I've ever had. Grilled to a perfect medium rare with mustard cream glaze. Stellar! The seafood risotto had the best scallops I've ever had as well. Probably the two best entrees I've ever had in a restaurant... let alone a restaurant in Lansing, MI. The dessert was a light and fluffy peanut butter cheesecake thank you couldn't find a single fault with. In closing: it was magnificent. The service, food, treatment, decor, friendliness, prompt seating... I couldn't critique anything. They really know what they're doing here. $98 for dinner before tip, which for food of this caliber is a steal. We will definitely be back! read more

I have now been here three times and can say it has been top notch every time! I think consistency is one of the best qualities in a dining establishment and this place embodies that. The staff is attentive as soon as you walk through the door but never intrusive. The ambience is contemporary like one would expect stepping off the street in a large city, yet it still feels cozy. The seafood risotto is just delicious. Simple yet loaded with flavor! I do think they could use a larger shrimp like an 8-10 size. I have also had the cacio e Pepe as well. My boyfriend has had the steak, the famous bowl, the sea bass and reports all of those were delicious! We decided to get a dessert last night....the flourless chocolate cake. This happens to be my favorite dessert so I'm a bit of a connoisseur...it was one of the best. This one has a bit of blueberry compote (usually I prefer raspberry but this was a nice pairing as well). My date isn't a big fan of chocolate desserts but loved it too! It has a very subtle sweetness that doesn't leave you feeling like you are on a sugar high. A truly elegant ending to the meal. The ONLY thing I'm not a fan of here is the bar stools....too short for the bar and I feel like my chin is on the table. Maybe next time I can get a booster. we will be back....again and again! This restaurant is a hidden treasure! How I can still meet people that have never been (or worse, never heard of it... gasping is appropriate) makes my head spin. The food is amazing. Any restaurant that can create the perfect bite, a mix of perfectly balanced flavors that not only compliment one another but layer together on a fork (or spoon) in a ballet of flavor is a 10 out of 10 for me. My wife and I celebrated our 33rd anniversary at EnVie last night. We had been to EnVie about two years ago for cocktails and appetizers. We sat at the bar and had a great time Last night we had a table with a wonderful server, Katie H. She was fantastic. She was smiling, happy and welcomed our questions about the menu and cocktails. She was informative about everything EnVie and made great suggestions without being pushy about her preferences. I had the Rye Manhattan. The bartender did a great job in mixing and serving this drink. I asked for a sample of the brown ale and was given a hearty taste of the beer. It was so good that I had this beer as my follow-up drink. My wife had the honey-vodka infused seltzer which she thoroughly enjoyed. We shared the Ricotta and Goat Cheese Dip on sea salt crostini's. It was great. Just a hint of sweetness from the cherry coulis drizzled on top of the spread. For dinner my wife had the Chilean Sea Bass with basmati rice and a red pepper sauce. She raved about this dish. I had the EnVie burger with fries. One of the best burgers I've had in the greater Lansing area. The meat was seasoned perfectly and topped with creamy brie, candied bacon and a fried egg. All served on a pretzel bun. This burger did not need any additional condiments, it was that good. The environment/atmosphere was perfect for a special occasion or date night. This place just had a wonderful feel to it and made the entire evening truly special for our anniversary dinner. It is a mix of both younger and older couples. It is a place anyone would feel comfortable sitting at the bar or a table. Envie is truly a gem located in downtown Lansing. I had no idea Lansing was home to so many uber-critical epicureans on Yelp. As a newcomer to the "scene" here (All three blocks of it) I see many feel EnVie owes the citizenry an explanation for what they do six days a week. Here's my advice: don't explain. Some of us get it. This town is lucky to have a venue that took a chance on you all. Start figuring things out. They'll wait. The wine list has a great point of view. Combining lunch and dinner menus is also rather brilliant; guests have options if they aren't used to a $36 entree. There is something for everyone without embarrassing yourselves for sitting down without first looking online. In fact, a smile and sympathetic pat on your heads for jumping online to complain without having first investigated EnVie before you were shocked here and then complaining..... online. Oh, and Shoutout to those who don't know what a tonic water tastes like until EnVie. At least you tried one. I recommend the tuna tartare they are running right now. The dusting of ever so subtle spice powdered tapenade (origin unknown) was perfection. And the duck Benedict is actually incredible. Wow. I'm coming back next week. EnVie looks like it would be at home in Chicago. Lots of white, black, and blonde wood. We sat at the bar while we waited for the other couple and had a few really good cocktails. The bartender was busy but engaging and friendly. We had a reservation and the others were running a bit behind so they held our table while we enjoyed our libations. So far, so good. Our companions showed up with their baby and asked if EnVie could warm up the bottle and the waiter literally rolled his eyes and said "anything to keep THAT quiet". WTF? When going over the menu and highlights of the restaurant, he spent more time talking about his experience and where he moved from than he did about what we were there for... the food and restaurant! We ordered and everybody seemed to like their food. I had the seafood pasta, and while the homemade pasta was incredible, there was a sweetness to the sauce that seemed out of place with the seafood. As we were cashing out, the waiter made it a point to stop by and say how well-behaved the baby was. Nice gesture, but the damage was already done. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll give them another shot as I'm curious about the menu and liked the ambiance... but if there's anymore asshat comments by the staff, it will be their last chance. read more

Being a Thursday night it of course was not crowded so the service was very speedy and friendly. This is just what we were looking for in a date night. The food was excellent (we had the risotto and envie bowl) and we look forward to working through the menus on future visits. Great drink selection. There is a hip cool vibe but small boutique feel. There are currently limited hours and limited seats, so you had to 'get in.' We had to email for a reservation, which felt like you were getting access into an exclusive place because of a personal connection. It was even more personal when they emailed to give us a heads up that their air conditioning was down. They had the door open and fans and did their best, and it didn't take away from the experience. It's nice to see a place like this in Lansing and we look forward to returning. read more

The bartender was very helpful in his recommendations for wine and food. Food: appetizers- we ordered smoked whitefish pate and mouses frites. Highly recommend both! Main- meatloaf was delicious but the mashed potatoes were the star! I loved the addition of the smoked tomato jam and goat cheese on top of the meatloaf-yum!! We also shared the seafood risotto and, again, delicious!! Next time I want to try the duck ragu and Chilean sea bass Decor: the best word to describe it is cozy and chic. We went for a date night and it was just the right setting! Also they didn't have TVs playing (they have them behind the bar) and it just helped focus on the food, wine and the company. Our table of 6 ordered specialty cocktails and everyone was quite pleased with their selections. We also started with the whitefish pate which was very tasty. Very good good meal with a laid back upscale atmosphere. We went in in a Saturday night and it was not too busy. We took our son and he enjoyed the meal as well. We had Scallops, the NY Strip and the EnVie Burger. Everything was cooked perfectly! What made the meal even better was our waiter. He was EXTREMELY knowledgeable and exceptionally personable. He really guided us through the experience by asking us what type of things we liked and made meal and drink suggestions that were spot on. Visited on a weeknight for our anniversary. Made a reservation for a table and that process was smooth. The capacity was limited as expected and out temperature was taken when entering. Service was friendly and quick, our waiter wasn't pushy and that was appreciated. The menu had some good options and variety but nearly no vegetarian or vegan options. That really limited the menu in our opinion and frankly stands out in 2020. Just a salad or cheese plates are not appropriate non meat substitutes. Prices are a bit high but pretty much as expected. Overall it was a nice experience and we would return. Atmosphere was a bit stiff but it was a weeknight and capacity is limited. If you are vegetarian or vegan, unless the menu changes they might not be the right restaurant for you. read more

Went here for my birthday tonight and we can't believe this is the first time we finally made it in! The entire meal was wonderful. We started with cocktails. My husband had the aperitif and I ordered an old fashioned with some of their house made brandied cherries. It was the best old fashioned I've ever had. Just the right amount of sweetness. We ordered the whitefish pate for an appetizer. Our server Travis recommended some cucumber slices to dip in it and that was a wonderful recommendation; it really allowed you to taste the smokiness of the fish. Our entrees were amazing. The lamb lollipops were tender and cooked to perfection. The scallops and shrimp in the risotto had a nice sear to them that was to die for. Suggested wine pairings were spectacular. The only thing I wish they had were their own desserts; I think they would be better than those they offer from whipped, if the rest of the meal was any indication.
