The French toast was good, I'd give it a 4/5 because I felt like it could've used more raspberry sauce, but overall it was tasty! The Caesar had an interesting flavor, but lacked a decent amount of Parmesan which prompted me to ask for more. This was a massive blunder. When in Lansing, we enjoy coming here. The chili is so good! My husband absolutely loves the Ruben, he says it's the best he's ever had! And I can tell you, he's tried plenty. We sit at the bar to watch sports on the TVs and all the bartenders we've had are all so nice and helpful suggesting foods to try and answering any questions we may have. Came to Beggars on football weekend with our daughters. It was a Thursday night. We were hoping to have a great meal to reminisce all the good meals and times early 2000s. That did not happen. Our server was sweet and attentive. However, our dinners were the worst meals we have EVER had in a restaurant. Our six different orders were horrible. The fish and chips was unrecognizable as fish. Batter was oppressive and burnt. The burger was so overly spiced. The Brussels sprouts were just bad!! I could go on but trust me the food was awful. Come on. My husband ordered the yard bird which is chicken. He was served a burger. I ordered beef stroganoff which, on the menu says egg noodles and petite filet. Called ahead 40 minutes in advance on a Friday night after hearing about a live music performance, was greeted on the phone by the extremely accommodating manager named James. Asked about potentially reserving a table close to the music, and for only a small fee we were able to get a table with linens and decor in a great location relative to the live music. Sports played on all tv's, to my husband's enjoyment, and our service from Juniper was excellent. She was very attentive and seemed extremely passionate about taking care of our needs. My husband ordered the pesto tortellini with grilled chicken, and LOVED it. I wasn't too hungry so I only ordered a plain chicken breast and it was cooked very well. Bottle service was presented very elegantly and aside from the wine we enjoyed, all other cocktails were excellent. The music performance was great as well, and the ambience of the restaurant was lovely. He serves me a knuckle sandwich and literally kicks me to the curb. After a few drinks I noticed all our friends were being served in glassware, I asked for a glass for my son because he had a Guinness, we were scoffed at with a "i don't know you" seriously???? Unassuming restaurant with decent brunch menu. I'm an Michigan State alum and I can admit that I have never been to Beggar's. It was never a pit stop for our bar crawls or nights out as a student. My friend and I decided to go here for brunch on Sunday since we had never been. Brunch doesn't seem to be as big an ordeal as brunch in Ann Arbor, but I was pleasantly surprised by the menu offered at Beggars. A lot of vegetarian options were available for me and prices were pretty reasonable. Some unique items were the various different versions of Benedict dishes they had, including a "flight". Our server was polite and attentive. The food was tasty and fresh, too. I ordered a "bowl" which had roasted red peppers, onions, spinach, artichokes and two poached eggs with some potatoes It was very filling, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the vegetables were fresh! The only downside to Beggars is that it's extremely dark. I can see it being great for a dinner or date night place, but for breakfast, I'd expect a little more light to keep me awake. We were also seated right by the kitchen, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it was hard to keep conversation going when every 2 minutes we'd hear someone yell "CORNER!". Overall, not a bad place. Not sure I'd come back, or if I did, I'd request to sit in the bar area since that had a bit more light than the rest of the restaurant. read more
