I just don't happen to like cars that reek of marijuana and dirty interiors. Call me fussy. I ordered a small sedan, yet they insisted that I rent a huge truck. I had a 12:00 PM appointment today to pick up my car. I arrived at 12:22 after waiting for my Uber. Although staff were still inside, someone outside told me they were closed. My appointment was scheduled for noon--so if I had arrived right on time, they would have still been there helping me. Why schedule an appointment for the exact time you plan to close? I've cancelled my order. I spend thousands of dollars there every year, but not anymore. Someone else will gladly take my business. read more

I selected Enterprise for my daughter's college move in and my experience was excellent. I had stopped in the week prior just to see if they had the vehicle that I had reserved which was a half ton pick up with seating for five people. When I arrived to the office on Duchess turnpike, Mark greeted me and took time out of his day to show me a few options. Although the trucks that he showed me was not the one I eventually wound up with I was pleasantly surprised with the Nissan titan. This truck had enough cargo space for my daughter's belongings and to seat three people comfortably. The trip was over 300 miles one way and this vehicle had more than enough power and more than enough space to meet our needs. I was even called the day prior to my reservation and I guess it was available that day. However, I was working and was not able to pick the vehicle up one day sooner. I felt that was a nice touch so that's what set the tone for the remainder of my interactions with the staff. Check in was super easy and everything now is digital so you got your contract via email. They did a walk around to show me any prior damage which was appreciated and when I returned the vehicle, the same a walk around revealed no additional damage, so the return process was equally simple. I had used enterprise many years ago, and I would have to say this experience far exceeded my prior experiences not at this location!! So great job I would definitely recommend this business to anyone in need of a short term or weekly rental. read more

Beware! When you turn your car in, they will tell you everything is fine, and then you will receive a statement that you took something from the car and will attempt to charge you for it. In my case, they told me that I had taken the spare tire from the car! FALSE! IF the spare was missing, then it means that they endangered my life by renting me a car with no spare tire. Many areas I travel to have no cell service, so I could have been stuck in the middle of nowhere with a flat and unable to change the tire myself. That would have left me in a potentially hazardous and vulnerable situation. Shame on you, Enterprise. This is an Enterprise Rental car scam perpetrated on customers. read more

2 of the folks there were very pleasant to work with. One told me my dogs were allowed in the car. upon returning the vehicle, there was a bit of hair scattered. one representative was very respectful and said everything would probably be fine. i had to leave and return to get gas, and ended up with a very disrespectful representative that said i provided them with the car in a "trash" state. he then said he did not have the time to take 2 hours to clean dog hair. as someone who answers phones all day and passes people keys, he is absolutely not above cleaning the car. as that is part of his job. lastly, if this moron believes itll take 2 hours to clean up less than a handful of hairs, then he really shouldnt be working, getting paid, at all. read more

Thank you Pete even we probably never met. Luckily I called them at Hamburg town to ask if they can stay open a bit longer for my pick up since the train was running right schedule. Pete even offered to pick us up at the train station and I was shock. Apparently this is a complentary service they offer. If you rent on their schedule, they might offer you a ride back to the metro as well. Pick up was spot on as they sent about 3 cars for all the customers. It's about a 10 minutes drive to the rental and the service is pretty fast. We got our car in another 10 minutes after decline to all the additional services from upgrade to insurance. They tried thou but it's really their job to up sale a bit. Pick up is up the stairwell (not in the bigger parking lot downstairs) you have to go to the main entrance for pick up and drop off. My car is super clean and enough gas for the whole trip. They do reserve about $250 on your car and refund after return. Return is easy. I gave them the key and waited about 5 minutes to catch a shuttle to the station. Wonderful service. read more

Excellent branch of this car rental company. Great way to escape NYC. My girlfriend and I take the train to Poughkeepsie as a jumping off point for adventures out of the city. It's cheaper to rent a car from here and you don't have to deal with city traffic. Enterprise has the best prices and they'll pick you up and return you to the train station. If it's after hours, they have a list of taxis posted and you drop the key in the slot. All of the times we rented cars here, the service was quick and painless. The staff are friendly and chatty. The office itself is pretty bare bones, with a counter and some offices and cubicles behind. They have a clean unisex bathroom. The cars were excellent, but don't ask me to remember the make and models. One time, my girlfriend realized once we were on the train that she still had the car key and that she probably dropped her wallet in the parking lot. She called first thing the next morning and they found her wallet. They returned the wallet and she sent the keys overnight. No hassle. I've used Enterprise around the country. They are generally good, but this location is the best I've encountered. read more

They were not prepared for holiday weekend business this Labor Day. About a week before we were to pick up the car, I double checked that they would pick up from the train station. Then I called when we got on Metro North and told them our arrival time but, instead of just planning to be there at that time, they told me to call AGAIN as the train passed New Hamburg (giving them not really enough time to get there during rush hour, but okaaaay). Well, New Hamburg was OF COURSE, a drop call zone. When I finally got through I was assured a car would pick us up. We get there....no sign of a car. (See pic of sign promising something they can't deliver). THIRTY minutes later a car comes and takes us to the location that has a long line and only one employee out of seven who appears to be doing anything (see pic). We get our car AFTER people behind us in line because "um.... we gave them a car that was still pretty dirty." What?! Long story short, we left with a car over an hour after our train came in, forcing me to drive part of our trip in the dark. I have horrible night vision and left work early to give me what should've been enough time to avoid this. The car also had less than a quarter tank of gas. I heard so many excuses that day....it's a holiday (duh), the shuttle did arrive on time but was full and left without you, oops I lost track of who was where in line..... Never again. And if my credit card statement shows one penny more than it should, this drops to one star. THEY CHARGED ME FOR AN EXTRA DAY, DESPITE THE RECEIPT I WALKED OUT WITH SHOWING THE CORRECT # OF DAYS. I despise the vast majority of rental companies. Generally speaking, they are massive conglomerates only concerned with the bottom line. At nearly every branch, the soul-crushing nature of horrible corporate policies and what I'm sure are below-market wages is visible in the eyes of each and every employee. I would feel much worse for these unfortunate drones if they weren't a somewhat willing part of what I'm assuming is a dastardly conspiracy to keep me from being satisfied with my rental car experience. But before I get dramatic about all this, I'd like to give a shout out to the Poughkeepsie Enterprise location. Because they are different. Barry and Ryan seem like really good dudes, and they made what is often an excruciating experience quite painless. They actually seem more concerned with customer service than any rental car company I've ever encountered, and they are even worried about my safety (not just my rental fee). They checked the tire pressure on our car and when it wasn't up to snuff on one side, we got a free upgrade. Because you can't be driving around with your tires too low. Also, I don't know if you've heard this about Enterprise, but they'll pick you up. They were a little late grabbing us from the train station, but it was snowing and the roads were pretty bad, so I can't really blame them there. Thanks guys. Like other reviewers, I came up from NYC on Metro North. Amanda picked me up in the shuttle as soon as I got to the train station and completed the fastest check-in I have ever had at a rental agency. We returned without remembering to give a heads up about needing a lift back to the station (don't be like us!) but after a 1 minute (literally) check-out we were sorted and on our way. During the past few months I used this Enterprise twice and both times my experience with them was great. In July, as we were headed out to begin our vacation, my car unexpectedly quit. I contacted Enterprise and they provided me a great car with a great rate and got me on the road quickly. I dealt with Liam and he was polite and helpful. I recently needed to transport a large item which I knew wouldn't fit in the back of my car so I contacted Enterprise again. And once again they came thru. While I intended to rent a cargo van I was warned that it may not be satisfactory as it is used for transporting fish. However it was washed and ready for me. Upon arrival the manager asked Chris B to show it to me before I rented it and while clean I knew I couldn't drive it for a few hours smelling like I was in the seafood section. So Chris showed me a few other cars. I decided on a pickup and I was pulling off the lot in just minutes. Chris B was incredibly helpful and Enterprise and this specific location will continue to be my first call when I need a vehicle. I highly recommend them! read more

We booked a car through Enterprise's website on a Friday for the next day. On the train heading from NYC to Poughkeepsie we got a call from the manager of this Enterprise. Apparently, the website only updates inventory once every 24 hours, so while we were able to make a reservation, they didn't actually have a car for us. Extremely frustrating, but not the manager's fault (though Enterprise should seriously take note). What made me really angry was when the manager got frustrated at us for dropping the call (we were on Metro North!). Fortunately we were able to make a reservation through Zipcar, so I called him back to see if he could possibly help us get to the Zipcar location. I was told testily that they were too busy for us, and because we were using another car rental company there was nothing they could do. It would have been so easy to make repeat customers out of us. We're up there all the time, and we were very nearly SOL because of Enterprise's old and faulty system. Unfortunately the manager didn't seem to care that he stranded us. read more

I have rented a car from this Enterprise about once a year for a long time now, and I have always had a good experience. Renting from them is a great way to get a car upstate when coming from the city. They are super nice about picking you up from the train station, and taking you back to fill out the paperwork and choose a car. It is both cheaper and easier than renting in NYC. This said, you are now upstate, it's a small town business, and so things can move a bit more slowly. It's worth calling, both when you make the reservation, and when you are getting close to the Poughkeepsie train station, and perhaps also the day before. I have always found them courteous and helpful. I give them special props this time because I was rear ended on route 9. I called the Enterprise office and they were calm, helpful, and efficient. read more

I have rented from this location at least 10 times over the past year. It's our go-to when coming from the city to commute further north. The employees are great about picking us up at the Metro-North station, though it can be difficult to catch a cab back to the station from Enterprise. Jay (Manager) is always there and happy to go above and beyond. The other staff (having dealt with most of them) are always great, and we are always in-and-out in quick fashion. Overall the experience was fine, but two things detracted: 1) The car we wanted had just come off a rental, and looked perfectly clean. We said "no need to clean it", the guy said "we have to, it's our policy, won't take long". When it came back it had a chemical smell, and the guy said "I sprayed some stuff to make it smell good". That smell haunted us for two days. 2) Talking to the guy it's clear this location does not enforce the "no smoking policy". If you're a smoker, this is your Enterprise location. If you don't like the smell, look elsewhere (Zipcars are usually good). This location was very good at explaining their special "damage calculator ruler", which defines what is and is not "damage" for purpose of return. In short, there's a length limit, and bumper scratches are always excluded. read more

I reserved a specific car and even got a call from the branch manager (who seems like he's a french fry short of a happy meal) confirming the time.....assistant manager Pete gave the car to someone else as I was standing there..... ( The same Pete that told me if I hit a deer, even though I can't really prevent that, they can't rent to me again). I regret giving them a second chance. The majority of my rentals are at airport locations. I've used this location to either pick up from or return to about 50 times over the past few years. Vehicle choice obviously isn't as good as airport locations but for a busy local location they have a usually have a great selection. The professional, courteous staff is terrific. I would guess almost half the staff knows me by name. The location assistant manager, Pete, knows me both by name and by voice. As a National Emerald Club Executive member Pete always takes great care of me. It's very cool to walk up to the counter and have someone you can't see shout out to the attendant at the front desk instructions by just hearing your voice. I would consider Pete to be an expert in the National/Enterprise contract with my company so he knows how to take of the details. He really makes an effort to earn my business from competitors and other locations. A few tips on receiving optimal service. Avoid showing up close (within 15 min) to closing time because as a popular location they get busy just prior to closing. They do a lot of pick up and drop offs so make sure you call in advance for the best experience. Busy time periods especially holiday weekends may require a call the day prior. read more

The staff was friendly and attentive and the car was clean & comfortable. I wish they stayed open later on Sunday's but that is only because I was not ready to head home. The two guys running this office last Sunday, Oct 18th begrudgingly offered excellent customer service!!!! We were late getting to poughkeepsie on the train and after the cab dropped us off at 2... An hour after they closed.... We were initially turned away. We were told that they were there later than they ought to be, We could go to Stewart airport and that they would like to go home and enjoy their Sunday. I understood all of it.... But we were stranded. As we stood in front of the office figuring out what to do, we were told to hang on and they would take care of us. In 15 minutes we were on our way. Thanks for bending the rules and providing great customer service!!!! The Sunday hours of 9 to 1 seem nuts to me.... As well as a lack of location by the train station. read more

Generally really solid rental option. We took the Metro North up here to avoid traffic and pay WAY less than NYC rental prices. The train ticket is an expensive one, but it still ended up cheaper than rental places closer to the City (not to mention IN the City.) Best part -- they pick you up at the train station. Very nice. The gentleman who picked us up was particularly nice. My only fault with them is that a few days into our trip, the "low tire air pressure" came on and really freaked us out. Living in NYC, we don't drive much, and getting this warning in the middle of Canada was scary. Thought we had a flat. Turned out the tires just needed air. Well, actually, they all needed a LOT of air. When we returned it, I mentioned it to someone, who said Oh That Happens All The Time with no apologies. AND THEN it happened to the person who drove us back to the station while we were in the car. If it happens all the time I think you guys should check your tire pressure more often. I am just finding out now, after 5 months that the "accident" I supposedly had in the rental car I used at this facility back in April/May has put me in an Indemnity pool with my insurance company. There was a very minimal dent in the hood of the car (which by the way I felt bullied and rushed to sign papers) I never had an accident or collision in the vehicle I was using, and I also cannot be sure it wasn't there to begin with. Next time I am taking my own pictures before I rent any vehicle, and it won't be from Enterprise. I would also like to know why it took 3 men to be in the car while driving me to my vehicle; it was very intimidating. I felt very bullied indeed and not an easy thing to speak openly about. read more

Train + rental was a great deal and I'm definitely doing it again! I second everything Beth G. said--including the bit about the tire pressure, which was a problem on the car we rented too.
