While I don't regret the scenic drive from Miami to Key West with my family, the almost personalized service at Key West Enterprise was the best rental experience in my life of 46 years old. Hands down the worst car rental place ever. The entire counter there is a JOKE. The staff are rude and VERY CONDESCENDING AND UNPROFESSIONAL at all levels. They had so many cars online on their app but I went in and got what they said they had. They gave me a crappy car that was making all kind of noise. In the parking lot there were so many cars there so how are they saying that they didn't have any? They said the car was 2024 but it looks like it's from 2004. So who's not for second chances? Gave them another shot and at least this time I actually got a car without having to wait. ... but it was on fumes and the first thing I had to do was get gas. And then in the end, there were billing issues to fight off. They tried to charge me for not returning it with a full tank, 4 hours worth of late charges when I returned it on time, and some other fees I don't even know what they were. What a hassle. I'll never rent from Hertz or any of their other companies (Firefly, Dollar or Thrifty). I rented a car for 25 hours. They charged me for 2 days. The car had a cracked windshield when I got it. No one checking me out in Key West. They said I broke the windshield and charged me $250 for it. That and the extra day they charged me for 1 hour was over $500. A 25 hour car rental cost me over $500!!!! I WILL NEVER USE hertz AGAIN! Go National or Enterprise. read more

Terrible customer service , over 1 hour line time , agents were literally on their phones scrolling social media, bad service overall.

Enterprise had a very long line of customers for cars they reserved, however they did not have in stock any of the cars (SUVs, jeeps, standard cars) that were reserved prior to today. The clerk who helped us promised a car from a nearby location within 15 minutes, however after waiting 30 minutes she had given the car to another customer and said ours would be at least another hour. The overall service was poor and felt like an overall scam. read more

Take your patience pills if you need to do anything out of othe ordinary with your rental. I wanted to use a couple coupons and after 20+ minutes of me (the customer) explaining to both of the employees how to enter them into the system, they finally got it right. I was not impressed. Bad first impression: I had never used Hertz before and was excited to do so as I had received a competitive rate on my reservation. I arrived early, approx 10:15 am for a noon pick up reservation. I didn't think it would be a big deal to at least ASK if something was available early...boy was that question met with attitude by the Hertz counter representative, keep in mind there was not a soul in the airport, much less anyone in line at the rental car counter. "Wow you are way too early to pick up" said the friendly Hertz representative riddled with attitude. With that I said ok I understand, what about something else? Possibly a car class that WAS currently available? Response from Rep "No, there are many reservations ahead of you" Maybe I'm way off base, but an "I'm sorry sir, we won't have anything available until the exact time of reservation" with a lot less attitude would have sufficed. As I sat down preparing to wait until my EXACT reservation time, I couldn't shake the bad customer service experience I just encountered. Thankfully, I did not give them a credit card number ahead of time, so I preceded to walk over to the Budget Rental counter. Night and day experience, very friendly rental agent who matched the rate and off I went in a matter of five minutes! Thanks Budget! No thanks, Hertz. Really we cant complain. The price was lower than what they quoted us on the tellie. They were out of the base car so they upgraded it for free. The car was clean and worked well. Quick and easy rental and return. In the airport about 15 feet from the bagaige claim. On the return drop your luggage and have some one stay with it at the terminal then drop it off. Otherwise you will have a trip getting up to the top level to check in. read more

This location has limited availability but it very understandable. I don't recommend you overstep your rental because you will be faced with various inflated fees! Try giving yourself a couple hours slack in the rental just in case. Otherwise the rental went as planned and the original fees are laid out clearly in your contract. Also, don't contact the branch with questions, they'll just refer you to the contract that was very hard to read. read more

Two Hertz employees were brightly there to tell me that my car wasn't in and that they didn't know what cars were going to arrive within the hour. The only car on the lot was a minivan. Not surprising. Who's going to drive a minivan in Key West? Was this a Hertz' oop-sie that the minivan wasn't switched out for a flashy convertible somewhere out there where Hertz does its back alley exchanges with Orlando Disney? The counter boys' solution for me was to wait an hour and "we'll see" if any other car comes in. That was way too beachey and laid back for me. Key West is probably one of the most laid back places on Earth. The locals are almost NEVER in a rush for anyone. This is a fact of life on the island and part of its appeal too. In saying all that, I had an excellent experience with them and would have no problem renting another car from them. When we arrived, the car we booked was available/ready and we were of course offered the slew of "upgrades" they offered. We declined and the employee was perfectly fine with it When we returned, we got in and out of there quickly. No hassles and not a whole lot of questions. FYI: You don't REALLY need a car on the island. If you are wanting to drive somewhere beyond Key West or are planning a camping trip to the Dry Tortugas, then you need one. Outside of this, it's not necessary and can be expensive if your hotel doesn't have free parking. Cabs offer hourly rates so if you are wanting to pick some groceries up or something like that you can for ~$60. read more

I was going to give one star, but the customer service rep on the phone at the 1-800 number (Becky) was nice enough (and good at her job) that she earned one star back. Check your receipts carefully! I reserved a car online with them for $25/day and was in the end charged $133/day! I caught it a few days later because I had to drop the car off before they were open to catch a flight. Don't even try calling the local number - I called maybe 8 or 9 times over a week and never got through. The 1-800 number has a long series of prompt menus and had a 15 minute hold, but once I got through everything was fixed fairly quickly. I rent cars one to two times per week for work, and in the future I'm going back to renting with National/Enterprise on this island. read more

Called over the phone to check for availability and was able to score a reservation. Had the year make and model of vehicle I reserved along with a reservation number. Upon arrival, Alonso (employee) wasn't even visible due to how laid back on the chair he was playing on his phone. Aside from that when given the name and reservation number for the vehicle he told us that they had no cars available without even checking our reservation number in his system. He had his hands full of car keys, we told him we made a reservation, and he interjected stating that "you probably called a 1-800 number. They always try reserving but we never have the card available etc." Understandable, but if I come in with a reservation number and a specific year make and model wouldn't you think that car would be reserved for the person that reserved it ? And have it set aside ? I'd understand if I was a random person asking right then and there for a vehicle and them being out of vehicles. But for him to say that they book reservations with that kind of detail on the kind of vehicle you're driving and a reservation number without knowing their stock is straight bs. He didn't even look in his system. He had the audacity to tell us "I don't know what you want me to do." This is not a place I recommend to go rent cars especially if Alonso is behind the counter. You have better luck with the other rental car agencies like the gentleman in Avis. He at least gives you options and tends to the customer! read more

The young man was efficient when we received the car. He inquired twice if we would be filling the tank prior to returning it. Twice I told him I would return it with a full tank of gas. I read the review from Sean H. and thought it was probably a one time thing. Nope! My husband showed up two hours early to pick up our reserved minivan because the traffic between Key West and Miami has been very heavy and we thought we better get an earlier start. The guy at the desk was rude, rude, rude! He was mad we came early, through his keys down, was sarcastic and consescending. My husband tried to make small talk to get him back to a happy place but that didn't work. Have no idea why Hertz puts up with this. Not renting from Hertz here again.
